Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Auditions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on KZbin before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " ♥👣👸🏻🎷

Our Angela is self trained from the start. She did attend an after school music academy where she learnt how to play the piano, guitar, violin and flute. She also learnt how to take songs apart and reconstruct them differently. You will see amazing examples of this as you travel through your AJ journey. This was the performance which had everyone saying that Billie Holiday was reincarnated in this little girl, for if you listen to Billie's original, when she was 29, you will think she sang both renditions. Angelina was labeled as a 'vocal chameleon, and soon after this performance she did it again upon emulating the great Dinah Washington's 'signature song' - 'What A Difference A Day Makes'.

I'm amazed how individuals come on to this site and fail to fully accept the fact that Billie Holiday is, according to AJ's own words, the reason why we have her as the singer she is. Common sense is all that is required to realize that if Angelina says there would be no Angelina without Billie, what do you think is left without Billie? Surely not the girl who has mastered nuance, breathy & whisper like releases, going from singing to talking within lyrical lines, ginning up levels of emotion that makes the listener believe she, even as a child, actually lived the experiences she sings about, and I have only brushed the surface of what she gained from Billie's legendary music. Unless you take the time to truly examine Billie's full catalog of musicality, as Angelina has done, you have no clue as to Billie's importance in the full scheme of things concerning Angelina. Billie lived the pain Angelina emulates in her heartfelt ballads, for when her eyes close while singing on stage, she has been transported into Billie's real world. Billie spoke about loving to emulate the sound of actual musical instruments with her voice, and if you listen to Angelina on stage singing Mount Everest, you hear her doing exactly that. I can tell you that Amy Winehouse incorporated Billie's inventiveness into her own singing as well, for jazz singing on the level that Amy, and Angelina, perform it is a testament to the greatest improvisational jazz singer of all time, the great Billie Holiday.

Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. Her next performance on Norway's Got Talent, is "I'm A Fool To Want You", another Billie Holiday song and she sang it a cappella. You need to check out all of Angelina Jordan's performances on Norway's Got Talent. She's from Norway and speaks Norwegian and several other languages and English is her third language at that age. Angelina is self taught and her mother Sara and grandmother Mery Zamani who was a prodigy artist as a child whose art work you will see in Angelina's videos in the background. They did not send her to take singing lessons because they didn't want her talent as a singer and her natural abilities, her artistic and technical prowess to be interfered with because she was already a Master Class for others and a World Class singer performer on any stage since Norway's Got Talent and Declared by Norway that Angelina is their National Treasure. yes this is VERY real !!! look up the original singer Billie Holiday's version and you will hear very minor differences in her original version and Angelina's version. the vocals are spot on !!!!!!!!! She has sung Unchained Melody several time at various ages, but by far the best version is from the Nobel Peace Prize Concert last Dec 2023 when she was 17. In my opinion, it's the best version of that classic, iconic song, ever by anybody, even the Righteous Brothers. James Thiel's video is longer than other versions with only her singing, but he gives the important background information for the listener to understand why she sang it the way she did. There is a video on KZbin of all NGT performances on one video. In just that short time span you see her incredible growth. By 11 her voice had fixed into an adult sound. Now at 18 she has clearly mastered her craft but even so she seems to get better every time you hear her. It just does not seem possible. But we fans have seen it happen over and over.

At age 4 she began visiting the academy for music and performing arts in Oslo, for technical advice. Later her family moved to LA, so she could continue her studies in the academy there. I am a German maybe in your country, the meaning of self taught is different. In my world it means (and many angels stated this too) she did not let vocal coaches teach her how to use her voice. Angelina clearly mimicked the techniques of the legendary jazz greats but it was on her own initiative… hence, self taught. I think what can be agreed upon is that Angelina has this unique ability- almost like a photographic memory - to hear music and immediately replicate it exactly. We see that in all of her practices and ad hoc performances on the street, or in the parking garage. 😊😉🥰

What is it about reading comprehension that you don't have a clue about? She told everyone that if not for Billie, there would be no Angelina as a singer. You need to get someone to explain to you the magnitude of those words. The magic of Billie's unique, improvisational way of singing, delving into nuance, inflections, breathing, emoting feeling, and a plethora of other elements she brought to musicality are what Angelina listened to and personally worked on so they could be incorporated into her own personal arsenal of musical style. Billie was her true musical mentor and that is a simple fact confirmed by Angelina herself. I know Germans tend to be thick headed, but you have taken it to an astronomical extreme.
