She was 9yrs old in that video...and already well known as she went on Norway's Got Talent and won it at age 7 with a gap toothed smile singing old jazz and blues hits from the 40s and 50s. Major labels have been trying to sign her for years, but her parents have been holding them off so she can have a happy childhood. She's 14 now, went on America's Got Talent and wowed Simon earlier this year, and has spent the intervening years producing amazing covers of some of the most famous singers of all time. She has covered Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James, and Billie Holiday. She's covered Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams and Amy Winehouse. She's outsung John Legend and Adele and Lana Del Rey on their own songs She's a once in a generation voice, but it's more than that. She has technique and emotional intelligence that adults who have done this their whole life never get. A little girl can sing to you about lost loves, the passage of time, loneliness, passion, and she'll make you cry doing it even though she could never have experienced all those things. If you look up the word "prodigy" in the dictionary, it will have her picture there. This was just what she was born to do. Check out her covers of "Born to Die" "A Million Miles" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" and you'll just be scratching the surface. This is a legend we're getting to watch from near the beginning. I do hope they had a great attorney though and went into negotiations like a #1 draft pick, setting terms and demanding freedoms, rather than letting the label dictate her career.

From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the finale’ on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. My personal favorite is her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die". Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “list of suggested changes” to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talk with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a Doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina re-arranged this song, both melody and lyrics, to more truly reflect how she thoughtthe song should be sung. She does this with many of her cover songs. Her fans call it "Angelina-fying" a song. My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later. I have followed her career since I saw that first video on KZbin and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz,Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williamns, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody.
