Absolutely phenomenal performance from 9 years old Angelina the barefoot Princess with 1000 different styles and voices, Angelina actually arranges this rendition herself pay tribute to the original artist Screaming J Hawkins a blues musician from the 1950s,Angelina is commanding this performance she is the boss, Angelina Jordan Astar from Norway 🇳🇴 she won Norway’s Got Talent at the age of 8 years old,and now resides in LA, Angelina signed with Republic Records at the age of 14 years old,she has around 175 covers and some originals too,Angelina is a prodigy, some children can sing wonderfully and have learned a song and there families say wow you sing well they have learned to mimic the song, Angelina is different she has understood the craft from an early age,Angelina’s technical ability has always surpassed her years, her amazing unique silvery vibrato outstanding, Angelina is rapt in a warm blanket with her protective family Angelina’s Uncle is her manager, and her Grandmother is often producing with Angelina when she is in the studio recording, great reaction thanks 🙏

I love all kinds of music and for a long time we haven't had a Singer like her her voice is unbelievable and what she does with a song . Now I will always like and respect the original singer but she takes them all to another level. Even the singer's of today they cover up their voices with technology and lights, dancers and anything else that they can. She doesn't need any of that and she blow's them away in my opinion. God bless

Mr TL, your intro is impressive!! I very much appreciate your research and preparation. And never once lost that smile..it grew at times during this performance...You listened to the most unique voice, talented ARTIST of this era. In the world of light shows, dancers, special effects.. you'll see that all she needs is a guitarist, or track, & a 🎤 to produce that which you yet have to experience... Angelina is truly a genius at visualizing how an original song can be given a new life with extensive vocal techniques, and artistry. Her talent becomes emotionally lethal as she bases it all on her ability to add EMOTION.. not belting, but honest emotions that bring life to a song, smiles to a face, comfort to a heart, hope to a mind, and tears to your eyes. My hope is that you continue exploring her music, and be amazed, and dumfounded by her musical artistry. She stands above all, and leaps into her music with TOTAL ABANDON & CONFIDENCE... you'll understand how easy it comes, when her voice produces exactly what she needs and in many, "drop the mic's" moments, let's you realize, she is a GIFT from the GIFT GIVER... PEACE, hope to see you on the flip side!! 🎤🎶🎹💞🎵🎹🎧👏🏻👍🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina Jordan and her music, inspire many people to improve the quality of their lives, making themselves more capable to help others. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The vast majority of the prize money was donated to charity benefitting poor children. Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter and allowed Angelina to copyright her version. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZbin, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.

Fantastic job doing your background research! You have just discovered a very deep rabbit hole that you will want to pursue. What you are witnessing here is the finest ever jazz performance of a 9-year-old vocalist! Norwegian born Angelina Jordan began singing at the age of one and a half, and by age three was listening to jazz and classics legends on repeat. Her grandmother was her greatest influence, but Angelina chose her own path. She also chooses all her own songs! Her first studio performance was at age 7, singing I Who Have Nothing. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of only 8, singing old time classics from Billie Holliday and George Gershwin, and became the youngest ever vocalist to win an international Got Talent Show! Her performance at 9 years old of Screamin Jay Hawkins, I Put a Spell on You is considered one of the finest recordings ever of a 9-year-old vocalist! Angelina also went viral on America's Got Talent the champions in 2020 with her unique versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Angelina sings in English which unbelievably is her third language! She is a true prodigy. She is now 17, and has recorded a huge library of songs, including covers and several originals. A major attraction to Angelina's music is the emotion and attitude she conveys, although she has not experienced the life events! She is known as the barefoot princess of 1,000 voices as she can adjust her tone, style, and register for any song or genre. She was signed by Republic Records almost two years ago. She is not widely promoted yet, however, as her family decided to wait until she graduates school this year, so she could have a normal childhood. The answer may bring a tear to your eye. It is related to a promise she made to herself and to the world when she was only 6 years old. She was traveling in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own favorite shoes. Angelina ask the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and she said a doctor, but she could not because she had to take care of her siblings. She asked Angelina the same question and Angelina said I want to sing for the world. The young girl said she would pray for Angelina. Since then, Angelia has forever performed barefoot as a reminder of all those less fortunate. At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, Between two Hearts, becoming the youngest ever published author in Norway. She also has helped raise millions for children's charities. She even donated her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to charities. She is a special individual, and one you cannot follow without developing an emotional bond. Angelina captures hearts because she is humble and has compassion for humanity. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace. I trust this will cause you to embrace her as millions of others have, and that you will continue down the rabbit hole from which you will not want to escape. This was Angelina's own arrangement - at least, she made the final decisions (you can see that at the start of the video). She was channelling Screaming Jay Hawkins, and if you compare this with his version you can see what Angelina has done with it. At the same time, her interpretation does have a feel of late 20s/early 30s jazz style. Please react to more Angelina, both the recent and the very early stuff. She is an amazing musical gold mine.

She loves jazz and blow most singers out of the water in my opinion. She has 3 to 4 personal songs out she just turned 17 in January 10th she has a album fixing to come out. Her voice just talks to you as she sings. I would try watching her cover of, I rather go blind by Etta James I think she was 12 or 13 at the time. And enjoy the rabbit hole you are fixing to go down. And God bless.

Thank you for discovering Angelina and for all the research you have done on her. I wish other reactors were as thorough as you.a second time, I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. You also notice that her own handwritten notes are on the music stand in front of her as she sings. For more insight into how Angelina works, here is a rehearsal video with the same band at the same age (9 yrs old) - You will see that she is aware of what each musician is doing and gives them some instructions. There are English subtitles as the spoken language is Norwegian: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXLOi3d3ja90aqc

Angelina was near her 9th birthday when she created this arrangement for the 1956 original by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. She took control of the studio and the band to deliver a powerful, emotional performance. Please take the time to read the bio of A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZbin video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. Also at age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed Frank Sinatra “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022.

What you will soon realize is that Angelina today at 17 Angelina is already the best Jazz singer on the Planet! IMO Soon to be one of the Best Vocalists of All Time. ♥👣👸🏻 Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 yrs old after starting the competition at 7 yrs old. The youngest winner of any Got Talent show on the planet. She had to wait two years because you had to be 7 yrs old to enter. She started with a rendition of Billie Holiday's 'Gloomy Sunday' which she just infused with Billie's soul. She followed this by another Billie classic with a pitch perfect rendition of 'I'm a Fool to Want You' acapella. Her next performance was a beautiful rendition of 'Bang, Bang' by Sonny & Cher and performed most famously by Nancy Sinatra. She won the competition with what I consider her first Masterpiece performance of 'Summertime' by George Gershwin. Shortly after winning she was designated a National Treasure by the Norwegian people. ♥👣👸🏻 There is video of Angelina recorded by her mother Sarah Astar singing a couple of lines of "I Will Always Love You' by Whitney Houston when she was 18 months old. She started studying all the greats of Jazz soon after under the guidance of her Iranian Grandmother Mery Zamani a child prodigy in her own right as an artist and poet. English is Angelina's 3rd language behind Norwegian and Farsi along with Japanese and some German and perhaps more. She did this from 2 & 3 yrs old by scrolling thru KZbin of all their most Iconic performance. Angelina doesn't just mimic these greats, she reinterprets them and then simply sings them the way they were meant to be sung. She makes them her own. Angelina was begging her mother to go on "that Simon show" when she was 3 yrs old. encouraged to sing children songs, she would have none of that. Angelina chooses her own songs and she is absolutely fearless. No song is too big and no artist is too Iconic. All the most Iconic songs by the most Iconic singers in music history. Angelina has said singing to her is as important to her as breathing. ♥👣👸🏻 She will sing anything Acapella at any time and often does. Her Tic-Toc is full of these impromptu performances wherever she might be whether in the car, walking around the neighborhood or in a parking Garage. Accompanied by most often a simple guitar or piano her performances are always incredible. Add a band or even a full orchestra as in her performance for Quincy Jones at his request singing his arrangement of 'Fly Me to the Moon'. The same arrangement he did for Frank Sinatra. This opened for his 85th birthday celebration at the 02 Arena in London. ♥👣👸🏻 She is well known worldwide in the industry. Her family and Angelina have been holding back turning down many of the biggest in the industry while she finishes school. Remember she just turned 17 January 10th. They finally signed with Republic Records about three years ago after getting a deal that gave her control of her artistic vision and has since released 2 originals, 'Million Miles' & '7th Heaven' plus a soundtrack for the New Movie "The Hating Game" which opens with her song 'Mercy' performed most notably by Duffy. Republic has labeled her their Highest Priority and assigned a team to her including Rob Christy a multiple Grammy Winner, often on the piano in many of her performances and a whole team of equally qualified professionals. She has worked with some of the best musicians in the industry and always get exactly what she wants. They call her the Boss and have immense respect for her. She is due to release her 1st album promised by Angelin to be soon. She has been diligently perfecting her craft since winning Norway's Got Talent singing all over the world, Germany, Japan, Korea as well as TV appearances such as The View, Little Big Shots and most notably America's Got Talent where she premiered her Iconic Performance of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' which Queen gave her the rights to record her own version available on ITunes and Spotify included on her Album 'Magic' which she released on her own along with a Christmas Song collection. She didn't win AGT because she would not sign with Simon. IMO. She has also sung for Many Heads of State including Barack Obama and a couple of songs opening for Norah Jones in Korea. She also sang at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert at 8 yrs old for Malala and another recipient. Mostly she has sung for charities helping raise millions for children charities and climate change. The great part is that most of it has been well documented often by herself and her family. Her Grandmother who introduced her to Jazz at 3 & 4 yrs old is behind the camera more than anyone else. Norway proclaimed her a National Treasure shortly after she won NGT. Love the reactions. Get ready for a deep dive. She is worth it! Love from the Land of Vikings here in mid-Minnesota USA wherein lies a huge proud Norwegian population. ♥👣👸🏻

I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

A great first reaction! Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy with an old soul from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 17 years old, living in Los Angeles, and is signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records have agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. She is working on a new album of original music which will be coming out this year. She recently returned back to Norway and performed at a number of sold out concerts in which fans from around the world came to see her. Many of the fans there said she sounded better live in person and was a once in a lifetime experience. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a shoeless homeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. One of the reasons why we love her so much!

This song has been covered by Annie Lennox, Nina Simone, Credence Clearwater Revival, and Bette Middler in the movie “Hocus Pocus”. Amazingly, the version that hews most closely to Screamin’ Jay Hawkins is Angelina’s, although her arrangement is uniquely her own. Yes she is a prodigy, but she is musically brilliant too, selecting this song herself along with her mentor and best friend her Grandma (Mery Zamani). Mery was the one who introduced Angelina to jazz at the tender age of TWO. I look forward to more of your reactions!

Apparently, Bette Midler sang this song in the movie, "Hocus Pocus" (I haven't seen it), and Creedence Clearwater Revival is another of several artists who have recorded this song. Angelina not only practiced this song with this band (who affectionately refer to her as "the Boss"), she arranged the music for this recording session. In the beginning, we see her handing her last minute changes to the studio director. He said she referred to them as her "wishes". ❤

Sadly, Angelina’s paternal grandfather died in March 2018 and her maternal grandfather died in November 2019. Angelina’s maternal grandmother Mery Zamani has had tremendous influence on Angelina and her career as she introduced Angelina to jazz at early age. Mery is somewhat famous Iranian contemporary writer, poet and painter who was also child prodigy herself being on Radio Iran's Children program at age 4 and began writing poetry and painting by age of 9. Later Mery was trained in art at Tokyo Academy in Japan where she met her Japanese husband, during her master degree's training in Japan. There is ten-year old video showing some of Mery's artwork in home setting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2qxqYtmqbidiZI ---- Mery has KZbin channel that supports Angelina called Angelina Jordan Fanclub Mosarz: kzbin.info/door/hM_lpT4shdnsez93QMJPig. There are lots of videos in it that could only have been taken by insider or family member. Mery is also widely known under artist alias name Mosarz ---- Mery illustrated book "Mellom to hjerter" (Between Two Hearts) that Angelina wrote and was published in November 2015 when Angelina was 9 years-old and became youngest published author in Norway. Book based on Angelina's diary/notebooks and describes her meeting with shoeless girl. Podcast was published by Angelina’s publisher, Cappelen Damm, in November 2015. In it Angelina talks with Erling Kittelsen, Norwegian author and poet and friend of family, about her book. Angelina tells of her understanding with little girl that Angelina will not wear shoes when she performs and that little girl will pray for Angelina. During pauses in talk, we hear small extracts from book which should be on children's reading list: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKGZmn9vbZ6DlZo There are three published Angelina videos created and directed by Mery: ---- Fly Me To The Moon (as 10-year old, sung with acoustic guitar in one of her most viewed videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ_Rq5WaqZmSiKc) ---- When You're Smiling (as 11-year old, starts out with her missing school attendance. The song is a reminder to look at everything in a positive light and not get down on yourself. Most importantly-no matter what you’re doing-don’t give up. It’s also meant to make you dance.”] [Angelina tells how studio video will look: “The visual will look something like old school meets new school kinda vibe to it. I love the styles they had before and I want to bring it back again.”] [Angelina revealed that she is often inspired to create music from personal pain: “Strong emotions, mainly painful ones, often make me write music.”]

Many have recorded their own version of this song but, from what I've seen, Angelina has stayed the truest to the original, as far as the rhythm of the tune and spirit of the song.

The visual vs. the actual is the hardest image to comprehend for everyone who has witnessed this video ! 9 years old sounding like 50 !! Angelina is an old soul who can resonate with the great jazz artists of the 50's so naturally ! She is the best student of music who has mastered this genre with hard work, dedication and passion at only 9 years old ! Her story telling ability is off the charts and her voice well that speaks for itself ! She is the real deal at 9 and now at 17 years old is about to release her debut this year ! She is fearless, competent sincere and passionate about her singing ! She is a seasoned veteran at 17 and has been singing since the age of one and half ! I agree she is a musical genius and will break out into the world stage this year ! , I would suggest her rendition on America's Got Challenge champions edition 2020 of " Bohemian Rhapsody " ! She was 13 then and got the golden buzzer for this vocal masterpiece ! A must watch Angelina Jordan video ! Enjoy the journey my friend !

Angelina has been sinning since 18 months of age and found jazz and blues as a very young person searching KZbin. She fell in love with the music of Billie Holiday as well as some of the giants of jazz like Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. She's also an Elvis fan, I think, because she's done some great covers of Elvis hits. I think your next stop should be her performance of Bohemian Rhapsody on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. LIke I Put A Spell On You, she sings her own arrangement of the song. The surviving members of Queen tweeted congratulations to her for this cover. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3eTe4lobduagtk

New subscriber - thanks to your great reaction to & appreciation of Angelina's incredible performance (which she also arranged) - at age 9. Also a big thank you for taking the time to do some research on Angelina. And - as young as she is here - in order to better understand her musical roots & early influencers, I highly recommend all 4 of her Norway Got Talent performances (Gloomy Sunday, I'm A Fool To Want You, Bang Bang & Summertime) - at ages 7-8. Thank you. And may GOD continue to watch over & bless Angelina Jordan.

Great reaction to a vocal tour-de-force! You've done it now. You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (160+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! Please react to more of her impressive library. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Finally, someone who took the time to do some research before listening to an artist. I think you will find that there isn't a bad cover or original song by her it all comes down to personal preference in music because she covers so many genres and is quite unique in that. Yes a prodigy perhaps. However, most definitely a vocal virtuoso that is still honing her craft and expanding it as well. Welcome to the journey, you will be amazed.

Until Angelina Jordan sang this, the definitive cover of this song was by Nina Simone, many have covered it besides Nina Simone, Bette Middler for the movie “Hocus Pocus” is probably the version most people recognise. Others such as Annie Lennox and Creedence Clearwater Revival have covered it. Angelina takes it closer to the original by Screaming Jay Hawkins than the others dared, as its possessive nature frightened many, but she has arranged it herself to her own inimitable style paying homage to Screaming Jay, while still putting her own interpretation on it. In many ways she makes it sound more adult than the adults covering it do.

Hi there Texas Love. I'm glad you got to experience Angelina Jordan on a raw level, a diamond in the ruff. Other reactors usually start with AGT, a much more refined Angelina at first glance without knowing her history of achievement. Folks would say, yeah, at thirteen she can sing, but this performance of "I Put a Spell on You" tells everyone she can sang too. Cheers!

Can you imagine being in a band and being told that you would be working with a new artist, and this 9 year old girl walks in? You would probably look around waiting for someone MUCH older. She has worked with this band several times, and they affectionately refer to her as "The Boss", because she knows just what she wants and how she wants it done. For a comparison in style and vocals with the original artist, check this video out. The mash up is at the end at the 6:10 mark. I'm subscribing to hear more Angelina reactions, as hers are the only ones I watch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/anmwZJ6CbKh4mbM

Go and dig deeper......you will be amazied what you discover about AJ......the phenom of a century and called a musical genius. She actually did the arrangement for the band members......they call her "Boss"......no joke. And she arranged how she would create the delivery of this song as a tribute to the original artist and songwriter......she made it feel like it was meant to be sung. That's her genius.
