Your mention that she reminds you of Amy, needs to understand the true genesis behind Angelina's style of singing, and this is the case for Amy as well, was the first singer to redefine the genre of jazz/blues singing and that is Billie Holiday. All you need to know is that even though Angelina has heard all the great singers of all time, covering many genres, she has said, 'There would be no Angelina if not for Billie Holiday'. No other singer is placed as high on the pedestal as Billie is and people need to go back and listen to the library of songs performed by her in order to see how truly unique she was, especially with regard to bringing forth heartfelt emotion on a level no other singer, other than Angelina, has really served to incorporate in their style of singing. Keep in mind that Billie had no mentor to guide her, applying her own improvisational style to everything she sang. Add to this the fact that when her father died when hospitals in the U.S. wouldn't treat him because he was 'Black'. Then Billie comes across a poem that she converts into a song and that poem was called 'Strange Fruit'. It talks about Black men hanging dead from trees, hence the title 'Strange Fruit'. Billie said it reminded her of how cruel White people could be and it served to affect everything she sang from then on. I am sure that Angelina, who loved Billie's music so much, was introduced to 'Strange Fruit' by her jazz loving grandmother, and had to learn the facts surrounding the lyrics. I believe this served as the true catalyst for Angelina when, at the age of 6, she gave the shoes off her feet to a poor girl she met in the streets of the mid-east and vowed that she would never wear shoes when performing until all those barefoot in this world would be able to secure a simple pair of shoes. It should be noted that when she won Norway's Got Talent, between the years of 7 & 8, she saw to it that all her winnings were donated to the less fortunate. Taking part in worldwide 'charity' concerts that raised over 21 million dollars is something else she did as a young girl.
