This was the first song I ever heard AJ sing..I was searching for Roberta Flack’s rendition and spotted this young girl and I thought what the heck..let’s see if she’s any good! I was immediately hooked, mesmerised..then I noticed I had tears rolling down my cheeks..involuntary..I didn’t realise till I felt them falling done my cheeks..only one musical artist has ever had this impact on me before. I listen to her everyday now and have done since that wonderful day. I’d go so far as to say I need to hear her voice now..no matter how rough the day she is there to relax and heal me. I know it sounds silly but well there you go..that’s what she means to me. Thx again for your wonderful reaction. 🙏

Egil Clausen, the guitarist, is a fellow Norwegian to Angelina and long-time friend of hers and her family. He's excellent! I like her American guitarist, Ivan Mendez, even better! But they're both great and complement Angelina perfectly!

This Angelina "cover" is a masterpiece, IMO. Now we know from the guitarist, Egil Clausen, that these videos, either at his studio or at her house, are impromptu jam sessions with her reading the lyrics & him just following her, beautifully. She is only 11 yo here (think 5th grader) & I'm so glad Mom let this one by the censor with the original lyrics in tact. There was no happy "bye" at the end from Angelina, I think she was a little embarrassed by the intimate lyrics. She says to her guitarists, Egil in Norway & Ivan Mendez when she is in LA, "Do you know this song?" That's followed by "Just follow me," which requires great musicianship. They both say it's usually the 1st take unless they make a mistake, because she never does. I used to think these genius re-arrangements she does were planned out with music notations, etc. Now I think she just sings the song as she feels it on the fly & that is on a whole different level for me.

Yes indeed, Egil has admitted the same. These insights are on two separate “reaction” videos by Alan Papier (search KZbin to find them 😉). Alan’s videos have become much more than just “reactions”. He interviewed two of Angelina’s guitarists earlier this year. Egil was her guitarist when she was in Norway (I can’t remember his last name - someone can help me out here), and Ivan Mendez “auditioned” for Angelina and became her guitarist when she moved to LA. These two separate videos are absolutely fascinating and are each around 20 minutes long.

There are so many answers to your questions. Clearly Angelina loves the tempo of this Roberta Flack iconic song. The way these recording sessions works is - they chat about songs they like, ones like this Egil will know well, Angelina will know of it, but not familiar with all the lyrics. Angelina gets the lyrics on her phone, Egil plays, then as soon as Angelina sings he simply follows her. I'm sure that Angelina was very happy with the first verse and chorus, but was heading into deep water as the song progressed. The more adult nature of the song was slowly becoming apparent. She gave the shy glance to Egil at the end, but the real problem was that her Grandma was probably the one behind the camera - the change of expression after the place you stopped was the flushed face and embarrassed look towards her Grandma - I can't imagine what her mother would have thought - but thankfully it was published and we can simply be amazed by this incredible performance. Angelina's first performance on NGT was pretty much an imitation of Billie Holiday, that was so good, but quickly Angelina worked to bring her own versions. She continued to experiment with various styles of great singers from the past, but increasingly just being Angelina.

This video is a good example of something that most people don't know about Angelina. She would call up Egil and arrange a studio session where they would discuss different songs and pick out a couple to record. As you can see, she and Egil are just sitting around and she is reading the lyrics off her iPad. This may be their first take of this song. Angelina sounds better on her first take than most artist will in their entire lives

This song was written by Ewan MacColl in 1957 for Peggy Seeger and he performed it at every event when touring the UK. The song was recorded and performed by many Artists but it only made it big when Roberta Flack recorded it in 1972. Roberta Flack won a Grammy for this song as well as for the record of the year. The song also was number one on the HOT 100 single of the year chart. Angelina Jordan can sing any song and does it more than justice. Thank you for another great reaction video.

One of the things I observe with Angelina is the caliber of adult musicians who want to work with her. I don’t feel that I am listening to a child’s mind with a prodigious talent attached - I feel like I am listen to an ancient spirit (with a prodigious talent attached). Music is a conversation and she is able to communicate musically on an adult level... or more than that, a level that inspires adults. Although she is remarkable (particularly in this genre of music), history has a long line of incredibly sophisticated child musicians, from Mozart’s debut at 4 to the incredible boy singers of Escolania de Montserrat. Never underestimate children, they are capable of incredible things. As a professional musician myself I am constantly blown away by her musical wisdom and her depth. She’s luminous.

Angelina Jordan is a music prodigy she started singing at age of 1.5 years and more than that she started with Billy Holiday Jazz. Angelina speaks 3 languages, designs her own clothes, and has written a best-selling book, and like her name she truly is an angel with a heart of gold. Angelina won Norway's got talent when she was 7 years old Her younger years before age 13 she was watched over by her mother (Sara) and her Uncle who just wanted her to grow up normal. Her mother and uncle Turned down almost 90% of all requests for her to perform but even so from age 7years to 12 years old or so, she has been all over the world (Mother never more than a breath away) Angelina has produced over 130 covers, and she makes all of them her own, all of which will astound you. New people to Angelina get sucked down this road of experience not believing what they're hearing her excellent vocals and unique way of singing, Angelina is a master at music structure her ability to show absolute recognition to a cover while she makes it her own. Angelina writes her own music and produces it. Angelina's mother is Norwegian, her father is from Sweeden The grandmother on her mother's side is from Iran and her grandfather (recently deceased) from Japan both grandparents are very involved with Angelina's growing up, Angelina's song a million miles is about losing her grandfather.

I have seen this many times, but this time I noticed at the end the communication between Angelina and Egil. They really were improvising this, and she created that ending on the fly with a few looks. Notice also that she was reading the lyrics on her tablet throughout. As Egil and Ivan have said in interviews, she really does these in one or two takes, without much rehearsal. She does rehearse for concerts with bands, mostly for their benefit.

Thank you for your heartfelt reaction to Angelina. Your response was as expected. The feeling of peace, praise, and love for a young girl whose Talent is through the roof cannot be measured. Angelina's fans have praised and loved her since she was a small child. She has an incredible history. She began singing at one and a half years old and by the age of three was listening to jazz and the classics on repeat, singing along and absorbing styles and techniques. She was a true prodigy. Norwegian born Angelina won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 years old singing Old Time classic songs that are unheard of in a child that age. She became the youngest ever winner of an international Got Talent Show! Since that time, up to her present age of 15, she has recorded over 135 songs on KZbin which you can find on Rusty shackleford's homepage on KZbin. It is a chronological list beginning at age 6, her first time in the studio. List consists mostly of cover songs, and approximately half a dozen originals which are over the past year or two. It's not just about her voice, but the emotion and attitude she conveys through her music. Why do we love and praise Angelina? It is because her soul is as pure as her Talent. She is humble, compassionate, and filled with empathy for her fellow man and for the world. Her stated goal from childhood was to sing for the world and spread love and peace to make the world better. How can you not love her? When she was 6 years old, she was in the Middle East with her mom and grandmother and they came across a young orphan girl with no shoes and scarred feet. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and promised she would never again wish shoes while performing until all children of the world had shoes! At age 9 she wrote a book about this experience, and became the youngest ever published author in Norway. So again, how and why do we praise and love Angelina? It is self-evident. Reactors from all over the world have been following her for years and are now more than just reactors. They have become loving fans to support her as we do. You cannot follow Angelina without developing an emotional attachment. I hope you continue to react to Angelina and her loyal fans will flock to your channel and subscribe in anticipation. Welcome to this rabbit hole from which you can never escape, nor would you want to. Peace.

OMG! This one gets me every time- can barely see through the tears...I am always surprised, even after dozens of views of this performance, how Angelina can convey such emotion, and like an arrow, it goes straight to my heart.. Thanks Matt for a wonderful reaction. And yes, she is an original, always making her own choices and going down her own path with each interpretation. Such musical intelligence at 11 years old! The mind boggles...

Matt, thanks for another great reaction. This 11-year-old girl, sitting quietly with only the accompaniment of one of her favorite guitarists, Egil, sings one of the most beautiful and exciting songs she has ever played. Angelina has an absolutely unique ability, no matter how beautiful the versions of the song she chooses, she always manages to transform it and make another version just as beautiful if not even better, she just has need a simple background to create its magic and twist the obvious. ❤️ 😊 If you also think that in a recent interview, Egil said that these recordings were often made at the first or second rehearsal and neither of them had planned the choice of the song, you can see that Angelina is reading the lyrics ... despite this she succeeds in any case to appropriate the song and make a reworking of it, and this regardless of age 😮

Egil Clausen, and yes, he plays like the good professional that he is, but there are times when he looks at her without being able to avoid being amazed.

By the way, i still don't understand why this is one of his least viewed videos. It's amazing, almost ... creepy, so much vocal perfection in an 11 year old creature.

I believe that Egil Clausen is much more to Angelina that some guy who plays a guitar to accompany her. I believe he has helped foster Angelina's musicality as he has done for so many other Norweign singers. Sure she has great talent but I think he probably more than anyone has helped her develop it.

That was a Great reaction Matt! You froze it at the end when Angelina's and Egil's eyes are locked and we're left to interpret their feelings. And everything you said was right on. I see them expressing their satisfaction with yet another collaboration; as if to say "look what we just created". And this song truly belongs to the Fabulous Roberta Flack. But when Angelina covers a song, we always end up with her unique creation. One of her signatures is restraint; she almost always slows it down and gives lots of negative space. Vocal teachers will verify that children almost always want to rush the process. But even though she's just 11 here, she's a veteran singer; she's been honing her skills since before the age of three. I loved your reaction to this performance. Looking forward to the next one. 💕💕

True artists “emulate” - all the master artists started out trying to copy, yet add their own interpretations... & so it goes... This applies to visual arts as well...

Sorry if you felt that distracting. I get it. I'm a saxophonist, not a pianist, but I use the piano to write music. Because I have limited piano chops, sometimes when I sing or hum the melody while I am comping on the piano, the song ends up sounding like it's got no tempo because it can be hard to play the melody and play rhythm on the piano. If you notice at the beginning, she strongly implies a rhythm. But as soon as she starts singing she stops the rhythm. In fact, after she finishes singing the song at the very end she restates that same rhythm. As a composer, I chose to continue to hear the rhythm in my head because that's what I thought she wanted us to hear. I hope that I articulated why I was "bobbing my frickin' head" lol. at any rate, thank you for commenting and please subscribe. ))

@@mattcriscuolo1541 Wasn't thinking of you Matt. Sometimes she can't stop laughing when her guitarist starts shaking.. Another thing, do you really understand what they are doing? They are jamming! In an interview with the guitarist (Egil Clausen) he told how they meet without any specified ideas or plans, Angie with her telephone full of songs she's tanked down and that's it, they start jamming and parts of that is recorded and we hear it. It''s absolutely awesome and marvelous, I totally lack words... A genius at work, no less!

AJ performs the song very slowly with enough time to do her vocal arrangements. So good !! The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is a folk song written by Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger. we can see at "Peggy Seeger - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (1957)" at kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYm8gZVmp9eqmKM. This song was very popular and recorded by many interpreters such as: - Peter, Paul & Mary played on guitar - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face at kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2fbZKCIl7-iac0 - Roberta Flack - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face 1972 at kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmnCl3-rZ96lhpY. with piano and orchestra, it changed the tempo, it is faster. song that earned a Grammy Awards in 1972.
