- Who is Angelina Jordan - (9 y/o here) Angelina is a Norwegian born child prodigy in music. She's a singer/ songwriter who's arranged over 180 covers and 5 originals, all since the age of 7. Angelina began singing at 18 months old. At 2, she began teaching herself how to sing, focusing primarily on the jazz masters of decades gone by. These are artists such as Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Etta James. She's also influenced by Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, and Adele, to name a few. She's also been said to be the girl of 1,000 voices. Yet even though we can hear the phrasing and style she puts in the songs, it's always Angelina that we hear. At 7 years old, she auditioned for Norway's Got Talent. She was the last to audition. The judges had no idea who she was or what she could do. They saw a diminutive mussy haired, barefooted girl with her teeth still growing in. For her audition, she performed "Gloomy Sunday" from Billie Holiday. On TV-2, they've reported over 14 million views of this performance. This does not take into account the many hundreds of reactors showing this audition to millions more. Needless to say, Angelina went on to win the 2014 season of NGT shortly after her 8th birthday. The family was bombarded with requests for performances, interviews, and record label offers. They turned down 90% of the requests, as they insisted that Angelina should enjoy a normal childhood. That didn't stop Angelina from performing at select engagements around the world, singing for Heads of State, and even Barack Obama. She's spent time and worked with musicians such as Quincy Jones and Alan Walker. She first appeared on American television, The View, at 8 years old. Angelina auditioned for America's Got Talent The Champions at 13 years old. She made it just up to the final selection of the final 5 when she dropped from the competition. It wasn't that she wasn't good enough to be in the final 5, but it was because she refused to sign with an AGT affiliated label, should she win. She knew very well what production hungry labels could do to her music. She even turned down Disney. At 14, Angelina signed with Republic Records. Republic gave her complete artistic control as well as control over the performances she would make. She turned 17 on January 10, 2023, and will graduate from high school after the spring semester. From then on, she will embark on her full-time professional career. She's been working closely with Republic on her first album under their label. It's likely that it will drop shortly after her graduation.

You will soon have other angels descend upon you giving you more info on Angelina. Some have already visited. She has over 130 covers, 1000 voices, 5 original songs and several songs written for her. Some covers are so good the the original composers have given her copyrights for her arrangements. The rest are judged by many to be as good or better than the original artists. I don't like comparisons, but she does make each interpretation uniquely her own. Her two you tube channels have over 120M views, but she is still flying under the radar since her family has protected her from the exploitation of the music business. NONETHELESS she is signed with Republic and is releasing her first single from her new album this month and the full album in the fall. She just sang the official song for the FIFA Awards last month for 300M viewers worldwide. Her star might be ready to go supernova as Republic starts promoting her after she graduates from High School this summer. Previously most of her concert appearances have been for charities where she has help raise millions for children worldwide. The bare feet are not just symbolic, she has done much to really help poor children all over the world. Yes, as Terje said, she was actually 2 months past her 9th birthday, this just wasn't posted until after she was 10. By the way, she won Norway's Got Talent almost exactly a year prior. She entered when she was 7 and the last 3 songs she did she had just turned 8. The judges were skeptical after her audition, thinking maybe she was just great at mimicking the singer, but soon found out in her next 3 songs that she doesn't mimic. 17 years old now and her first album is due out later this year.

Actually, mimicking was how she learned to sing. She would listen to Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday and all the others and she simply do what they were doing. Norway's Got Talent was all mimicking, I can clearly hear the mimicry in Summertime and I Put A Spell and Gloomy Sunday. About 30 seconds into Gloomy she sings an unusual descending tone. Spot on Billie Holiday, and everyone cheered when she sang it. Same with I put A Spell On You, she was imitating Screaming J Hawkins, and what's great is Hawkins had a low gravelly black blues voice and Angie boldly did it the way her little girl body could do. Same words, with a skilled kid singing it. So she is imitating and honoring Hawkins at the same time. Now go Listen to Screaming J Hawkins singing this and listen to how she used his performance to learn how to sing. That's a true prodigy. By the time she sang Bohemian Rhapsody she was sloughing off her influences and used her ideas, no imitation but tons of time absorbing their styles. And that's why she doesn't use teachers, she is her own best teacher, as we all should be. She can speak 6 languages fluently, again something that requires extraordinary ability to get the accents correct. Everyone else from Norway has their American accent, but Angie speaks English like all of us do in the U.S. language and singing are very similar, and Angie has her ability to imitate. True genius. And I'm not saying that because it's a fun to write that. Sadly I don't think Juliette has Angie's singing abilities. She probably has the smarts though.

Angelina has the feeling of the song and is imitating the overall style, but even in Gloomy Sunday there are moments where she does not do what Billie Holliday did. Again with Summertime, she follows Ella Fitzgerald closely but the feeling she has for the song makes her differ from Ella, notably in the way she handles that high note (""Daddy"). With "Spell" she is repackaging Hawking's original wild delivery into a more musical arrangement which is strongly musical while retaining the feeling of wildness. This is a long way from mimicry.

Born Jan 10, 2006 in Oslo Norway. From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the final on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. This includes three originals song: “What Is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” Since then she has done many new covers and now her new singles "Million Miles" and “7th Heaven”, along with her movie soundtrack "Mercy" from the motion picture “The Hating Game”. As well as her brilliant version of Elvis’s “Suspicious Mind”. My personal favorite is her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die". Although “Mercy” is really growing on me. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.

Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. In 2015, at the age of 9, Angelina wrote a book about the encounter, as everyone continued to ask why she sang barefoot. Her grandmother, Mery Zamani, created the artwork for the book. So at 9, Angelina Jordan became the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina has performed alongside many other artists, raising attention and helping to raise over 21 million euros and millions of dollars for children in need.

AJ is 9yr and 2 mo old when she recorded this and she had studied the original Screaming Jay Hawkins 1956 original. She rewrote the lyrics arranged it the way she wanted it and even Hand wrote her "wishes" for the band to follow and gave it to the band leader ( First part of the video) The band member loved her so much they were calling her Boss and several of them went on to do other recordings with her as she grew up. You will want to see all 4 of her 2014 NGT started at 7yr old and won it at 8 years old then at 10 years old she did many unbelievable songs and concerts a big band performance of "Feeling Good" , A huge concert where she was invited to sing for Allen Walkers back home concert she opened with "Sing Me to Sleep" and "Faded" she also covered a Disco song "I Will Survive" and many others
