Angelina was 9 years old in this performance - Her nationality is Norwegian but is fluent in English even at this age - This song was not arranged for her - she wrote the arrangement based on listening to the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version - in fact, at the beginning of the video you see Angelina writing down some last-minute changes and it is read by the bandleader. Angelina recorded this when she was 9 years 2 months old. Sooner or later, you're going to need to go back and watch her version of I Who Have Nothing, recorded when she was six. She won Norway's Got Talent at age 7. That's Screamin' Jay Hawkins on the candle she's holding up. You will soon learn that she is always barefoot when she performs. She made a vow to do this when she was younger (yeah, younger) when she was in Iran and saw a little girl weighing people for change. She asked the girl why she was barefoot, and the child explained that her parents had died and that she was the oldest of 5 children and responsible for feeding all of them. She couldn't afford shoes. They were roughly the same size, so Angelina took off her shoes and give them to the girl with the promise that she would always sing barefoot. The little Iranian girl reported that she had wanted to be a doctor, but that was no longer possible. She would, however, pray for Angelina's dream of becoming a singer. When Angelina got home, she wrote a book about the experience, becoming the youngest published author in Norway. She also started a charity to get shoes for children who didn't have any, and she kept her vow to never wear shoes while singing until all children have them. I'm sure you'll get more information from others who know more. I apologize if anything I've said is incorrect; there are others more knowledgeable, but they haven't shown up yet. I did my best.

Please, in the future, if you're going to post a comment, verify your facts; don't rely on rumour, speculation or innuendo, or just something you read in someone else's comment. ....She had turned 7 when she recorded I Who Have Nothing. She won NGT at age 8. After she gave her shoes away, she made some entries in her diary about the experience. These were used in her book that she wrote a few years later. There is no record of her ever making a vow about performing barefooted until all children have them; however, she's been quoted on numerous occasions and talked about her decision to perform shoeless in various interviews always explaining that it acts as a great reminder to her of all the underprivileged in the world.

Angelina Jordan is 17 years old. She sang yesterday in Paris at the ceremony - FIFA Football Awards 2022. A barefoot princess with a hypnotic voice. She was only 9 years old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, an American singer/songwriter. He wrote and performed it in 1956 and Angelina based her performance on the original, although she did make some subtle alterations to both lyrics and melody. As you continue your journey of discovering Angelina, you will come to realise that she does her own arrangements of most of the cover songs she sings. The differences may not be immediately discernible on first listening to them, but they are there. There may be a subtle change in tempo or tone, or more inflexion on some words, or a phrase may differ in pitch from the original. The amount of control that Angelina has over her voice cannot be measured. She never hurries a song. She sings in such a way that the emotions in the lyrics are felt by the listener. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. They finally signed with Republic Records about three years ago after getting a deal that gave her control of her artistic vision and has since released 2 originals, 'Million Miles' & '7th Heaven' plus a soundtrack for the New Movie "The Hating Game" which opens with her song 'Mercy' performed most notably by Duffy. Republic has labeled her their Highest Priority and assigned a team to her including Rob Christy a multiple Grammy Winner, often on the piano in many of her performances and a whole team of equally qualified professionals. She has worked with some of the best musicians in the industry and always get exactly what she wants. They call her the Boss and have immense respect for her. She is due to release her 1st album promised by Angelin to be soon. She has been diligently perfecting her craft since winning Norway's Got Talent singing all over the world, Germany, Japan, Korea as well as TV appearances such as The View, Little Big Shots and most notably America's Got Talent where she premiered her Iconic Performance of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' which Queen gave her the rights to record her own version available on ITunes and Spotify included on her Album 'Magic' which she released on her own along with a Christmas Song collection. She didn't win AGT because she would not sign with Simon. IMO. She has also sung for Many Heads of State including Barack Obama and a couple of songs opening for Norah Jones in Korea. She also sang at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert at 8 yrs old for Malala and another recipient. Mostly she has sung for charities helping raise millions for children charities and climate change. The great part is that most of it has been well documented often by herself and her family. Her Grandmother who introduced her to Jazz at 3 & 4 yrs old is behind the camera more than anyone else. You’re a lucky man. There are many very talented young artists coming up the musical ladder in just the last 4 years. You called out some of the best. Angelina is in a class all by herself. She doesn’t hit the dogs ears level of some singers and doesn’t yodel and try to hit every note ever written on one syllable a doesn’t do dramatic movements or drop to her knees and grab body parts or perform in scanty clothing. She simply finds the true meaning of every song and tells the story better and with complete understanding in such a way that our skin gets goose bumps, chills hit our spines, we hold our breath and our eyes leak as the pure emotion she emits washes over us. Thank you for discovering Angelina Jordan who, for me and thousands of others, is the most talented and versatile artist living today. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

The finale ensemble performance included Mick Hucknall, Jess Glynne, Lalah Hathaway, Jonah Nilsson, Jack Savoretti, Andreas Varady, Caro Emerald, Corinne Bailey Rae, Paul Weller, Beverley Knight, Jacob Collier, Mark Ronson and . . . not hidden in a corner on the back row but proudly front and centre in her white gown and gravity defying coiffure. . . a barefoot 12-year-old who had earned their respect as their equal for a day. Angelina was just turned 9 when this was recorded and she won norways got talent at 7 years old and turned 8 by end of it. She sang Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holliday, Bang Bang by Nancy Sinatra and Summertime. This young lady is already a superstar, and she has just turned 17. Angelina Jordan won the 2014 season of Norway's Got Talent at age 8. A year later, at age 9, she recorded this performance, which is her own arrangement based on Screamin' Jay's original. Angelina sings barefoot as a reminder that many children in the world lack necessities like shoes. She's done this ever since age 6, when she gave her shoes to a Middle Eastern orphan who had none. Also at age 9, Angelina published a book she wrote about this experience, becoming the youngest published author in Norwegian history. She speaks several languages and also paints. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Ric, I'm a little late but "Welcome to the Wonderful World of Angelina Jordan!" You've just listened to a phenomenon for the ages. She performed this at 9 years old and if you replay the beginning of the song you will see her give the musical director notes she had written down suggesting changes she wanted the band to make. I must tell you she had already won Norway's Got Talent which she entered at 7 years old and finished the talent show at 8 years old. She sang Billie Holiday songs and closed with George Gershwin's 'Summertime'. Ric, you are about to go on a journey with her and after hearing this, can you imagine in your wildest dreams what you are in store for? You will discover her versatility and her soulfulness which touches your heart with a voice that defies logic for as young as she is. Ric, THERE'S MORE. You will find out what a beautiful human being she is and, in particular, why she sings barefoot. To fast forward for a second, just a few days ago she performed at the FIFA Awards Show in Paris singing the theme song for the event and the viewing audience was well into the millions. So many others have given you all the details on Angelina, so I will just thank you for reacting to my favorite artist. I suggest you react to her at different ages between 6 and 17 or even the clip of her singing along with Whitney Houston with a microphone at 1.5 years old. I'm sure you will get plenty of recommended songs from others and I will tell you that it doesn't matter, you could pick totally randomly out of her approximately 200 covers and originals and be amazed as each one is executed with the same excellence.

She is basically a musical child prodigy, and you have to listen to the rest of her music to understand that she cannot be duplicated or replicated because her sound is just soulful and it touches your soul and brings out. Angelina is a prodigy Norwegian born she started singing at the age of 18 months. She has a heart of gold she has worked diligently and produced millions to help with children's needs and environmental things worldwide all before the age of 16, she gave her shoes to a poor child when she was 5 and was the youngest author in Norway with the story about why she performs without shoes. She has produced over 160 covers of all genres and made them all hers while maintaining recognition and loyalty to the original. Angelina sings in 5 languages, plays the flute, guitar, piano, and violin, writes her own music and paints follow her and you will have a video journey from the age of 7 to now at the age of 16 every performance is a musical masterpiece regardless of age and you will meet her followers (called angels) who number in the thousands and are some of the nicest people on the net. Angelina I think is the most talented 9 year old singer have ever seen. The most talented 9 year old musician I've ever seen is Alma Deutscher the child prodigy composer from England. She started playing piano at age two the violin at three ad composing at four. This is her performing the 3rd movement of a violin concerto that she composed.
