I have been watching KZbin beauty community for almost 8 years now. And I've also been freelancing for just over a year. You have helped me more than anything or anyone else ever. I just appreciate you soo much. Some of your tips I already have done but I was unsure of them still. You are the only artist that makes me feel reassured and confident in myself. Thank you so much for these videos!

Thank you so much! I think the biggest help when you are working as an MUA is to see what other MUA's are doing. I set a timer on my phone for 40 mins so that i know i need to be finished, have 5 mins to clean, and then start the next person. much easier than checking your phone or watch and counting backwards all the time. this is helped me stay on schedule so much better!

Something I like to do as well is have photos sent of the bridal party in advance if possible. I can plan the makeup (blush, highlighter, lipstick, etc.) based on skin tone, type, and texture and organize for the job based on who I'll be working on. I make notes on a face chart and bring it along - it really helps!

I have a bulky case with drawers, it can be hard to travel with but it pays by being organised. Sometimes I work straight from my kit with no table space at all. Clean up after is a breeze because everything has a place. Also the phone photos are a great idea. I don't know how many times I've heard "just natural" then do the application to hear "more, more, more". Yeh that natural is actually full glam 😂

My Apple Watch really helps me to stay on time. I can set times with a tap and reset them just as quickly. It’s Awesome! Also, I bring a foldable table with me because she’s right, most times there’s nowhere to set up. I highly recommend bring a black foldable table a lot of them have small handles so it’s not impossible to add to your kit. Most times hotels have trolleys.

I started working for a freelance company about 2 years ago who required you to do a full makeup application (including airbrush) in 30 min. When I started doing weddings by myself, I stuck to that policy and quickly learned I didn’t like it at all. I want to perfect my looks and not be so crunched for time. I’m currently in the process of altering my business a bit and giving myself more time with each client is definitely a must! Love your videos ❤️
@joanamariemathes83307 жыл бұрын
You are so right about being honest with your clients about how long the artist does make-up and how many persons they can only put make-up on. I had an experienced when my sister got married, we asked her MUA if she can do make-up for 8 persons including the bride. She said yes, but it meant that we will start early. We didnt mind the hour so we booked her for 8 persons. I was disappointed because on that day she had an assistant and they divided us into two groups. I wanted to say "hey we did not pay for your assistant to do our make-up, we paid for you.", but we just let it go since we really did not have a choice.
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this Joana! As MUA's we have to put ourselves in the position of our client's and think about things like - if this was my wedding day would I be happy with the service provided. You are so right about that!

I’ve been doing weddings going on 3 years now and these tips are spot on! I keep my mirror hidden in my zuca lol. The worst thing that can happen is when your client gets a hold of your mirror! The lash tip is genius. I use hold onto my lash with tweezers until the glue gets tack. Another tip: if you’re working at an unfamiliar venue/hotel for the first time, arrive early! Give yourself a time cushion to figure out where you need to be.

I find that if I put the glue on the lash, set it down and do something else, 9 times out of 10 the glue is too dry and doesn't stick, especially if its duo. I find duo takes forever to get tacky and then has like a 3 second window of tackiness before it's too dry lol. I use the HOL glue now and apply the thinnest amount and usually only have to wait 30 seconds and it's tacky enough to pop on and it stays tacky for a good while to allow some menuevering 😁 I hate that 30 seconds of wasted time just sitting there holding it lol but I've been burned too many times with lash glue that got too dry 🙃 thank you as always Angi for so many great tips this was super helpful!
@christinamariehollis7 жыл бұрын
I have found the same thing. However the Ardell clear lash glue has been a godsend. It goes on clear so there's no white glue showing through and it dries almost instantly. I work one eye at a time. I apply a very thin layer to the lash band and I don't wait any amount of time in between. I just pop the lash right on and it's really on there alright. It also lasts through tears and sweat. It's the best glue. However I always have my clients keep their eyes completely closed when applying lashes with the ardell glue because if the glue gets in their eyes it can burn just a little. I have yet to get it in anyones eyes but I have gotten it in my own eye lol. So I have my clients keep their eyes closed the entire time and even about 2-3 minutes after I apply the lash to make sure its dry. You should really try it. It's amazing and saves LOADS of time. My lash applying skills went from 0-100 real fast with the ardell clear lash glue. I get mine at sally's and walmart.

I actually use the standley fat max tool box and work out from it and I only need to take out like a few things on a small table like one eyeshadow, blush and contour pallet, tubby cylinder cup to put my dirty brushes on, makeup remover wipes and I wish I could share a picture! To show any one that is interested.. it's an awesome set up! I don't have to take anything out of my kit only while I work and it's easy when I have to leave it's mess free.

I just discovered you on KZbin. I realize this video is over a year old, but what a breath of fresh air you are. I have been doing bridal makeup for years. Lately in addition to brides & bridal party, I am getting a lot more wedding guests paying for professional makeup application. I have done makeup in a tiny city apartment, no room to put any products out. I have had to work directly out of my kit. So as you mention, organization is key. I try to prepare as much ahead of time, but when offering a choice, don't overwhelm the client. You mentioned this in regard to lashes. And I think this is solid advice in general. Often clients don't know what they want, and that is part of why they hire a pro. I also always give my clients a lip brush with cap loaded up with their lip color that they can carry with them if they do need a touch up much later in the day. P.S. your video about hygiene 👌 THANK YOU! I cringe at some of the things I see others do. I am very extreme about hygiene and think it is such an important and sadly often overlooked component of makeup artistry. Nice to see real, practical advice for upcoming artists. Your videos are great!

Everything you said in this video could not be more true!!!! I was saying' yes' to everything you were saying!! 😂. I've been doing bridal makeup (going on 6 years) and it's taken a lot of practice to try and get clients in and out of my chair within 30-40minutes. Honesty IS the best policy. Some of my bride's hate having such an early wake-up call, but I think half the battle is actually educating your clients on why it takes as long as it does. The makeup needs to last, there are extra steps involved to make sure that it does!

Thank you so so much for everything that you do with this channel! This is exactly the kind of content I was looking for, you are such a breathe of fresh air! I have been a freelance MUA for seven years now, but I’ve found this channel is so helpful with tips and ideas I haven’t thought of like sending a schedule to the client. I’ve found that when I make a schedule or if I’m given a schedule by a wedding coordinator I stay on schedule better. I also keep a small digital clock in my kit that I set out in plain view to help me keep on track. And I LOVE the idea of keeping pictures on my phone for those clients who don’t quite know what they want. My busy season has bled into November this year so I will definitely be using your tips this month!

Angie, your videos have helped me feel so much more confident about starting my own bridal makeup business. A lot of channels out here have great videos about beautiful bridal makeup looks, but you're one of few who really show us the business of makeup artistry. Thank you for taking the time to explain these things in such a concise manor. This has helped alleviate a lot of anxiety about working. I am new to this industry and realized thata lot of the ideas I had about what this industry would be like were very misinformed and based on insta photos or guru videos. I have some basics for my kit and am practicing mixing foundations for my friends/family to build a beginners portfolio. Thank you for giving me the confidence to get started realizing my dreams!

You are amazing! Love your honesty about bridal parties and about the reality of set up. Most of the time I'll end up working off a towel and a chair and a night stand if I'm lucky! Once, I had to put a towel down on a hot tub cover at a hotel which was a bad idea once the sun came out and melted my lip sticks. ugh lol. We work with what we've got and when I bring too much in my kit, my eyes get lost looking for that one bloody product and its such a time waster. Can you do a vid on determining warm and cool tones because I sometimes struggle with this . I’m currently in school and my instructor always reel me to pay attention with tones and applying the correct looks for cool tones
@AngieDiB6 жыл бұрын
That is something you have to figure out over time. It’s one of the most important things to learn as an MUA but one video won’t be able to teach you how to do this. You should have a colour wheel with you every time you do makeup if this is something you are struggling with. I will be discussing this type of thing as I get into doing more looks on real people because I know there are so many people that struggle with this!!

HEY ANGIE! loveeee your videos! I am a bridal makeup artist and I wanted to know, when hiring assistants or other stylists to help with larger parties, what do you do for the deposit and travel fee? Do you give them half of your deposit or any of the travel fee? I never know how to handle that! Loving your tips by the way! Thanks so much 💓
@AngieDiB5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! You can do whatever you want! I pay a travel fee for additional artists on my team but no deposit. They invoice me for the rate and get paid the full amount when the wedding is done!

amazing video at the right time as always angie:) loved it!! Have a question : when you have 3 people who wants to have tehir hair done very early in the morning what do you ask them to do before you work on them? like wash their hair the night before ,blow dry etc? thanks
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
I always let my clients know I prefer their hair clean and dry and ask them to only use a tiny amount of conditioner in their hair on the ends. That is my preference! Each hairstylist will have their own preferences for this type of thing but that is what works for me!

Please do you have any tips on airbrush makeup? There's not a lot of in depth videos or tutorials out there.
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
I don't i'm sorry. I do not do any airbrushing at all! I find it way too much of a pain in the butt to carry around with me and the results for me are never as good as what I can do without it!

officAllie1991 a good alternative is the airbrush foundation cans Dior and Sephora brand are good

I've been lucky enough to only run into a few people who have requested the mirror, and you are right... they are very knit picky and obsessive and always my most challenging clients. But the issue I seem to have with these types of clients is getting the mirror out of their hand once they have it. So for example if someone asks for a mirror and asks to see their look as I'm going what should I do or say? If I hand over the mirror when they ask what can I do or say to then get it out of their hands and finish my job? Like I said I've been lucky enough to not have many of these clients, but every once in a while I do run into them; usually my more mature clients and I feel like they are like this because I am so much younger and usually working on women around my own age. But any advice on how to get the mirror away from them after they have it would be very helpful.

Yes, this is a difficult situation. I always will just ask for it back or say 'let me take that for you' and i'll set it back on my station where I have it. I do all of this with a smile of course and make jokes about their time with me being a mini vacation where they don't have to hold anything. Normally when people are told to do something you would be surprised how often they do it. Or they can hold on to the mirror but if they keep holding it up I will say something like 'let's check your makeup again in a couple minutes in the proper lighting" and this usually derails them for a bit.

Give them work and put a tissue in their hands to keep under their eyes while you work and let them look to the ceiling. That way you can take the mirror out of their hands and put him away till you are finished. Often I forbid them to look in the mirror before I'm done. If the customer feels your self-confidence, they usually prefer to be surprised.

Hello Angie, I like the idea of making an schedule for the day. I have a question. When is preferably to do the bride makeup? Before or after everyone?
@AngieDiB3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the schedule for the day and your client preferences so you will have to discuss this with your bride/wedding planner. I have weddings where the bride goes first if she needs to take some pictures prior to the ceremony, I also have clients that ask me if they can go last so their makeup is fresh for the ceremony.

So i've noticed that alot of girls lately want a cutcrease look and because of that it does take me longer to do. What do you suggest we say or do to the client when we are on a tight schedule during those bridal makeup parties? I'm having my first pretty big bridal party in november and i wouldn't want them to feel unsatisfied if for some reason one of them would want a super dramatic eye look and i had to turn them down because of the timing. How can i go about explaining to them without being rude but still being honest that there's simply no time. The bride herself wants a cutcrease eye look so already that's gonna take me longer. I'm just really nervous and wouldn't want to disappoint anyone including myself.
@katiegulakowski75207 жыл бұрын
esmig03 montoya explain to the client that the bridal party is getting variations of the same look so everything will look seamless in photos. Also, you don’t want to apply “trendy” makeup. Remember photos are forever and you want the makeup to be timeless

Katie Kattau i hate to be the person telling them no you know but i do want to get everyone done in time and be professional about how i'm being honest.
@katiegulakowski75207 жыл бұрын
esmig03 montoya I’ve found as long as you speak confidently and know what you’re talking about, nobody will question you. Personally I haven’t had a single person ask me for a cut crease. Reiterate the fact that you are doing bridal makeup. Also, ask the bride what she wants her bridal party to look. That way you can always say “the bride told me so-and-so” trust me they will not say another word about a cut crease lol
@esmig037 жыл бұрын
Katie Kattau lol i actually did ask and she's letting them choose whatever they want. So that's why i'm like "ugghh.." hopefully it turns out good. I've had a few already that have asked lately with like glitter and all so yea i guess it's just the trend but i wanna prepare myself to say "No" lol thank tho i really appreciate all of your tips.

Can you do a little video about makeup trials?
@AngieDiB7 жыл бұрын
For sure! We are on a roll with bridal makeup vids - anything specific you are curious about?
@jamieleggett61707 жыл бұрын
Angie Di Battista When doing bridal/bridesmaids do you do trials on all of them together like you would on the wedding day? Do you charge the same for trials as you do on the day of the event? Do you think it's better to do the trials weeks before the event? Or does that matter? If you can answer these that would be awesome. Your videos are exactly what I need in my life! I enjoy all your tips and have tried them while working on people. Thank you so much! 😋
