Two, I saw your note cards, so your organized, know what you want to say, and then say it. Three: your talking to us. By this I mean you aren't wandering around a sporting goods store or in a boat casting while trying to make a video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and you now have one more subscriber.

I like mono but it floats..So I went to floro and the hook set is awesome but you better make sure you tie a good knot or you will break it off..Once that hook is set on 20 lb. Floro your home free..Braid is a BEAST line for flipping a jig in heavy cover and top water..That's the only time I use it..So I say overall the Floro is the best line out there..SEGAR. is some good stuff.

Also people should know braid can act like a hack saw on softer metals or non ceramic parts. I've seen this first hand with heavy use casting all day long it will cut into pole guides and also damage your spinning reels -all bad when you hook a Screamer.....

I use braided line on everything bc I've gotten tired of fishing for crappie with weak line and having a huge fish hit my bait and brake me off before I even realize what's going on. With braid u never have to worry about getting broke off

If you are fishing for crappie or bluegill in heavy cover, I recommend mono for sure. Inevitably the jig or bait hook is going to get hung up. Light mono is much easier to break off without too much worry of moving/dragging the structure and spooking nearby fish.
@nissan_68286 жыл бұрын
Michael Ferik Technically, mono is more abrasion resistant, but using heavier braid will help in better cover!

I think you get what you pay for with line, regardless of type. I think the best braided line by far is Berkley Trilene pro grade. It runs about forty to forty-five bucks for three hundred yards, but it's worth every penny. Braided line can be strong enough to muscle large bass out of a mass of weeds and others vegetation. Fifty to sixty-five pound test is still very thin, and means you'll keep a lot of fish you would lose with lower test line. My experience with fluorocarbon is that it makes excellent leaders, but I think it's a very poor choice as a full spool line. As a leader, you get all the benefits, but none of the disadvantages. There's just no reason I can find to load an entire spool with fluorocarbon. For me, the only two advantages of mono are: 1. Price, but it isn't nearly as cheap as most think. Between sun damaged line, broken line, tangled line, etc., you have to replace it far more often than braided line. 2. The fun factor. I love ultralight fishing, and unless you use two to four pound test mono with an equally light rod and reel, I don't think it counts as ultralight. It's a true challenge to land a large fish with a tiny rod, and very low test mono line. For me, this makes it fun. I'd never use hundred pound test for catfish. What fun is that? It's like hauling the fish in with a winch. I wouldn't use anything over fifteen for bass, unless in a tournament where you have to muscle fish, and can't use a landing net. Hundred pound fish have been caught with two pound test, and this is what makes you a fisherman. Just as with hunting, or any other sport, it's sportsmanship that matters, and this means giving the fish a fighting chance, and of need skill to play and land a fish without breaking fragile line.
@kyle85757 жыл бұрын
James Ritchie Power Pro is the shittest braid I've used. I was using 15 test in freshwater and with a 2/4 ounce lure it snapped somehow. Switched to this pink Ande 12 test and hasn't broken yet.

I do all kinds of fishing, Single handed fly, Skagit and Scandi, Bass on both spinning and casting and last but most certainly not least Spinning and Casting for Striper, Blue Fish and Falsies and I always use Jerry Brown Spectra and I don't believe I've ever had an issue with fish being frightened off by the intense yellow of my floating lines or with my line breaking. Now I have to say that I always use an invisible leaders so the issue for frightening fish away is simply not something I've ever experienced. I size my leaders to the weight of what I'm throwing and what I'm trying to catch and lengths to the length of my rod. As far as a shooting line for Skagit or Scandi, again I use Jerry Brown because I think it is the best braid out there. To connect the braid to the shooting head I do not go loop to loop but instead I use a very small Swivel connecting my lines with loops to the rings on the swivel. Now I should say that when I started using the swivel it was because the Spectra was just destroying the factory made shooting head loops and before factory loops were common my home tied loops as well. I also use the smallest swivels when connecting my shooting head to my sinking and floating heads but not to my leader. For Skagit and Scandi I attach my sinker to leader with loop to loop connections. For my leader or tippets I cut off a length of Mono about 4 or 5 feet long and tying a loop in each end I have good solid connections for attaching my fly and back to my sinker as well. I've never had a problem with big or little flies not turning over however for single handed casting I always make up my own leader and tippets according to a recipe published by the Orvis company many years ago. I tie these with a nail knots and a drop of epoxy on each knot which if applied very carefully helps the knots glide over the water surface without much disturbance.

Cant u use a flourocarbon leader when fishing braid? It sucks cause if u get snagged u have to retie the braid to flourocarbon but still it helps the visibility issue. Im a beginner in using a baitcaster and at first i put 15 lb mono and compared it to when i put 20 lb braid power pro, i got less birdnests which is contrary to the popular belief that mono is better for beginners and better casting distance like u said with braid.

Braid is really really good line but there is another con that needs to be mentioned. When you hook up with a fish of any size, braid can and will saw in to your eyes, especially on cheaper less durable rods. It's happened to me with different brands of braid, and different brands of rods. Now for a best rod that has more of a resistant to that happening is the Berkley lightning rods which have more of a thicker type eyes. But it will still kind of of saw into your eyes so check onto that.

Can you advise what lbs test is best when using monofilament fishing line on a small spinning reel for sun fish, pan fish, small mouth and crappy bass? I mostly fish the park' lake, but this year Im hoping to do some fishing in the river also. I have not fished for two years do to illness, but this year, I have my motor powered Native water craft kayak just about ready with the exception of loading the reels with line. A trick for monofilament fishing line I learned off another channel was to pull your spool off your reel after loading it with line and put it in hot tap water about 10 minutes to remove the memory from the packaging spool to the spool of your spinning reel. Thanks.

Can you do something about on Deep Sea saltwater blue what's the difference between braided monofilament and carving
@troutluvr63387 жыл бұрын
What about knot strength and tying them? The braided can be a challenge especially the slick it frays and has static making it hard to go through small loop. The fluorocarbon if you don't lubricant your not the fiction melts the line making 6lb test 2lb at the knot. Etc... I use fluorocarbon now but might go braided with fluorocarbon leader line.

i notice you have Trilene fishing line.I am thinking about using it for a liter line for catfish.Your thoughts?
@AnglersEscape8 жыл бұрын
Trilene is a good line for catfishing. If your going after large 20+ catfish with cut baits and live baits I'd use 30-50lb mono (however you will need a large reel to hold the line as the diameter is much thicker than braid). If youre going for catfish under 20lb with worms, shrimp, dough baits, 20lb Trilene is good. Even 20lb test can catch big fish though if you have your drag set right. I caught by personal best 46 lb catfish on 20lb trilene monofilament.

Bass fishing- braided line for topwater and pitching pads, braided with flouro leader otherwise. Trout fishing- either flourocarbon, or thin diameter Nanofil with a lengthy flurocarbon leader. Flourocarbon works better as a leader than as a main line, IMO- too much memory on a spool, tangles easily.

Spider wire is decent for the price. I currently have 12 lb spiderwire fluoro on one pole and haven't had any major issues with the line breaking, but it does have pretty bad line memory. Seaguar and Berkley are definitely a lot better (less memory and seem to be more durable). Definitely a price jump though.

@SebastianDavidPB7 жыл бұрын
Yes, after 2 years experimenting, it's more about the fishes hunger that makes them decide to take a bait, but that also can depend on areas where they are pressured vs areas where fish were not pressured, if fish have not seen lines that often you can catch them even with wire traces on. Lines are preferences, just like rod actions. Now I prefer braid on spinning gears, but do watch out, they'll mess up guides and reels if those were not designed to handle braid and you'll also have to be more precise with the brake on the reel. Braid combined with a 7' fluorocarbon leader works best for me, 1 year ago I've tried braid on a baitcaster and had bad luck with it, seems that now I found the right setup for it.
