The South African pilots faired very well against the cuban pilots because of superior training and logistics. When Russia sent russian pilots, that's when the SAAF started getting into difficulties. But never a whitewash. It's a very fascinating topic to research. Because of the embargo, South Africa designed and/or modified existing equipment. But take the likes of the G6, rattel, Rooivalk helicopter and the cheetah. Those were up there with the best in the world and sometimes if not better.

biggest issue SA had was the lack of planes and parts, they had to choose when to use their planes. added to that Angola was one of the deadliest airspaces in the world with the latest Russian anti-air. Cuba and Russia could afford to loose planes SA could not

@@LuckyVixen95 I also have all the gear. I have an X-52 that I bought a long time ago to use in MSFS to keep somewhat current on IR procedures which I’ve hardly used. I’ll upgrade that stuff as soon as I convince myself that I’m gonna have the time for it that I need to do what I want to do with it. I’m a fairly serious sim racer and have been for years but it’s hard to keep up with the best young guys without a lot of time practicing. It is definitely harder in a race car to come from a physical world race car into a sim than the other way around so that hurts me as well. I suspect that fact to be the same in DCS.

The SAF Mirage F1s were at a significant disadvantage during the Angolan War. They didn't carry Matra 530s and their heat-seeking missiles were either early sidewinders or Magic I missiles which were rear aspect only missiles. Their electronic countermeasures and radar warning receivers were poor. In comparison, the MiG-23 had better speed, acceleration, and climb. They were armed with BVR SARH missiles, a radar with look-down shoot-down capability, and R60 heat-seeking missiles with all aspect capability.

See my reply to AK Ken. The GR's also take off as German pilots during their WW2 campaigns: I don't see you whining then. And yes, I fought in Angola. Against RUSSIANS and CUBANS.

Who cares, it's a game and most of the Angolan pilots were Russian or Cuban so no actual link to Angola. It was just a convenient place to hold a conflict on behalf the participant nations.

Funny, like the other guy said the Nazis seem to be okay. And the Russians at the moment, you'd better not fly a flanker. Get over yourself, they're only doing it for the aircraft matchup not because they want to simulate being fascists.
