8 inches per mile squared is an EXCELLENT approximation for the drop from tangent. It is accurate over amazing distances. If you need better precision, you'll need to be more specific. When we put the distance into that "mile squared" part, we need to specify how we're measuring the distance... could be horizontal distance, arc length, or chord length. You'd need to specify. If you use chord length there, the result is precisely a parabola of almost exactly 8 inches per mile squared.

@celiand2618

Oh it goes further. One of their... "ideas" is that every single personn has its own projection of the sky, its personnal "dome". And that is an idea from the "refined" flerfs, the "unrefined" ones don't even get that there is a problem in the proposition of two different rotations with a static point on a disk. Because they don't get that at LEAST the ones in and close to the southern hemisphere would see two "portions of the dome" rotating in opposite motion. Basically they have a very bad ability to modelize.

I'm a Christian and I have never actually met another person, Christian, atheist, agnostic, Muslim, Seik, Jew, or otherwise who believes the earth is not a spheroid globe. I've only ever heard of flat-earthers. In fact, I would say I am "agnostic" when it comes to believing whether flat-earthers even really believe their own impossible "arguments." So, I'd say the 99% figure is actually a low-ball estimate. There is no way that 15% of any group of people (except perhaps Flat Earth Society members) actually believe the earth is not spherical.

the statement "we are not living in the sky ,we live on the ground" shows how confused and disconnected from reality fallacious reasoning and even seemingly small untrue beliefs can turn out over time.This guy probably doesnt even believe space exists,so what is the sky supposed to be cause to me everything is in space including earth ,so everything lives in the sky in a sense.also we live on the ground ,like there is only sky and ground as the limits of the cosmos ,It really seems like some of them cannot imagine or visualise things in three dimensions. I d like to see a visual representation of what he thinks the universe look like I bet it would look pretty funky especially if you include his religious beliefs about hell and heaven and where the angels and demons and purgatory and the different levels of these are.most flerfs ascribe to beliefs in aliens (reptilian controlers hidden in plain sight etc)add these guys to the mix plus various speculation on where they come from and reside and doing their various stuff.plus the belief in whitchcraft meaning their would also be various super natural entities ,plus the souls of the dead that are still wandering .Someone depict that shit visually and win a visual representation of that guy's idea of the cosmos.

“The astronomers' theory of a globular Earth necessitates the conclusion that, if we travel south of the equator, to see the North Star is an impossibility. Yet it is well known this star has been seen by navigators when they have been more than 20 degrees south of the equator. This fact, like hundreds of other facts, puts the theory to shame, and gives us a proof that the Earth is not a globe.” -William Carpenter.

The stars would NOT "have to be quadrillions of miles away to remain fixed in relation to each other" nor would Polaris "of course have to be extremely far away to remain in the same place in the night sky." The stars are all relatively close to the surface of the Earth, within a few thousand miles as measured by sextants. Again, it is not "as you pass the equator that Polaris disappears over the Northern horizon," but at the Tropic of Capricorn 23 degrees of latitude further South than the equator. Also, AGAIN, the stars in the southern sky do NOT all move in concentric circles around Sigma Octantis, since they cannot be seen simultaneously from every point in Antarctica the way Polaris and surrounding stars can be seen in the North. The circling effect is caused by the law of perspective on plane surfaces depending on where/when/what direction you're facing in the deep Southern latitudes. It is NOT as simple as you and the ball-Earth model are suggesting, that stars go one way in the North, opposite in the South and straight along the equator... that is simply not the case. And the fact that you can photograph BOTH of these "star circles" simultaneously from many places on Earth proves we're not on a ball with two pole stars. There is no South Pole. From the equator, the north pole star and many other constellations can be seen from every meridian simultaneously; whereas in the South, from the equator, neither the so-called south pole star, nor the remarkable constellation of the Southern Cross, can be seen simultaneously from every meridian, showing that all the constellations of the south sweep over a great southern arc and across the meridian, from their rise in the evening to their setting in the morning. To account for this glaring problem in their model, desperate heliocentrists since the late 19th century have claimed the ball-Earth actually tilts a convenient 23.5 degrees back on its vertical axis. Even this brilliant revision to their theory cannot account for the visibility of many other constellations though. For instance, Ursa Major, very close to Polaris, can be seen from 90 degrees North latitude (the North Pole) all the way down to 30 degrees South latitude. The constellation Vulpecula can be seen from 90 degrees North latitude, all the way to 55 degrees South latitude. Taurus, Pisces and Leo can be seen from 90 degrees North all the way to 65 degrees South. Aquarius and Libra can be seen from 65 degrees North to 90 degrees South! The constellation Virgo is visible from 80 degrees North down to 80 degrees South, and Orion can be seen from 85 degrees North all the way to 75 degrees South latitude! An observer on a ball-Earth, regardless of any tilt or inclination, should not logically be able to see this far.

If you think about it extraterrestrial mean extra-land. With mars, Jupiter and other planets literally being planeTS meaning they are lands beyond ours on the ground. Space as you call it is basically outside the ice wall. It can take you years to get to the next world via ‘space’ship. It makes sense how easy it would be to move the population there instead of above into space which honestly sounds crazy. NASA scientists have even admitted that the earth is a closed system. You can’t have pressurised gas without a closed system like a terrarium. If the sun and moon were so big you wouldn’t see light spots on the sea. If the sea was curved you wouldn’t see a perfect mirror of the sun and moon there is absolutely no distortion of light on the water to show curvature it’s all perfect symmetry. The moon landing, when it was time to leave, the rocket took off from the moon but who was filming it take off and actually moving the camera as the ship went up? If the earth was curved you wouldn’t be able to zoom back into the boats that had supposedly disappeared’ over the curvature. The earth is so big that when the sun sets it’s actually going away from you and it gets smaller in shape the further it is away because it has gone into the point of horizon. It goes so far that it literally disappears out of view till your eyes cannot see it anymore and that is the truth. If you don’t believe me go and look up these things for yourself and then we can have a real discussion.
