Yet so many of these videos show UK riders passing illegally, riding too fast for conditions, or just plain losing control. How can they be such bad riders after so many months of training, multiple tests, and years of practice before getting their unlimited license?

He should have looked back, however, the car was using a "suicide" lane to overtake other traffic which is a no-no, even if they were turning. At least in the CA handbook (I assume it's similar everywhere) you aren't supposed to pass traffic, even if they are stopped, in a non-passing zone. I also ride, and I check my mirror and turn my head to look behind me even when I think it is dumb to do so. Ill be getting off the highway and check that no one is speeding through the emergency lane behind me XD.

Always good practice to look back but the car is 100% at fault. The biker entered the turn lane at the proper spot when the turn lane started. The car entered the turn lane before it started crossing the solid yellow line which is illegal.

the only visible yield sign is the one we see for the biker's turn (for which he doesn't slow down at all) while he's turning into an intersection now occupied by the suv *that has already turned*. if they *both* had yield signs, it was the biker's responsibility to yield to the suv that was in front of him. riding faster than they're driving doesn't change who yields. and then once they were both going the same direction, riding into them to cut them off so you can turn into the walmart or whatever is just heinously bad driving. that suv driver probably went home thinking wtf just happened?

I only watched about 1/2 of the video. From what I have seen, most of these "accidents" could have been avoided by the motorcycle rider if they would have paid attention to other drivers. You don't keep going when it appears that an oncoming driver is going to cut you off. You might have the right-away, but that is not keeping you from getting hurt. You have to be prepared at all times to expect the unexpected. I noticed that in the vids that I did watch that after a near miss, the motorcycle rider just has to gun it to prove that he/she was right, speeding down the road. It all comes down to responsibility. It is known that the average vehicle driver is not looking for motorcycles, but cars. The result is that they can pull out in front of you. As a motorcycle rider you must anticipate this and react before an accident can happen. Giving them the finger and riding your bike up to their vehicle to prove you are right, is not going to correct the situation, in fact, it might complicate matters worse. I have been riding since 1991, I took a motorcycle course, which I would recommend to any rider who never had one, for it opens your eyes to what to expect on the road, and how to handle your bike in emergency situations. It has prevented me from accidents many of times. It is well worth the cost to learn how to look ahead. Besides, learning how to ride being taught by a buddy, might not be the best idea, for he/she will pass on bad habits.

This is so many years in the past now I’d care not think about it… but I did show the unedited version of the video to my insurance company and since we both had the same company, they were going to at first find her 100% at fault, since the left turn lane technically begins where I first started going in (and there was no reason for her to be there they said). Since I got the ticket though due to outdated state law, she disputed it and again due to state law regarding disputed liability, they had to find us both at 50%. At least she got to pay for her own Caddy door repair instead of I!

Target fixation is a killer. In my 3+ years of riding I've laid my bike down twice and when I replay what happened both times i went down exactly where I was focused. Since then I focus on looking through the turn to where I want to go, not looking at what I want to avoid.

The self removing fairings made me LOL. Fruit Dealers slip was not caused by crossing a dry white line. His back tyre hadnt even touched it when he started in a tank slapper into slide. That was a combo of cold tyres, using too much power and quite probably poor suspension setup

Yes there are really bad drivers out there but there are also some really horrific bike riders out there too. Go too fast, follow too close, don't know how to take turns, don't know wet paint is slippery, think they own the road when they are just little specks - either bug or windshield -both get hit.

Pro tips: 1. Wear the right gear. Motorcycle gear. "But it gets hot in the summer" There is seasonal gear. You can buy some breathable gear for the warm times and thicker gear for the colder times. There is also adaptable gear out there. Remember: your gear is your only protection. BRIGHT CLOTHES. There are high vis vest made for bikers. They stretch over the torso of your jacket. It double the chances of being seen by other vehicles. 2. Wear a closed helmet. Or one, where you can flip the chin protection up. Jet helmets / open helmets don't offer much protection in case of accidents. Would rather be cool looking or dead? 3. DO NOT BUY YOUR DREAM BIKE RIGHT AFTER YOU GOT YOUR LICENCE!!! I can't stress this one enough. Start on a small bike and get some practice one it. Then you work your way up to your dream bike. I started on a 125ccm Honda, rode it for two years. Then I got a 600 ccm Yamaha for two years as well. I then had a break for about 3 years (personal stuff). Next was once again a 125ccm Honda, then a 750 Honda. Now I got a 1300ccm Honda bike. 4. Drive passive. Don't demand your right of way. You may be in the write, but you will loose against a car. Pay attention to your surroundings. Always think of the mistakes others might make.

You can at the age of 16 go in take a pretty simple written test and go out in the parking lot, ride through some orange cones, get up to 20mph and stop within a certain distance, make a u-turn in designated space w/o putting a foot down and you are good to go (at least in my state, others are different)out and buy what ever your wallet/heart desires, biggest/fastest.......it does not matter whether you're prepared for that bike or not!

That was totally an attempt to hit the biker, the road had good visibility and in the moment where you first see the car it's still in it's lane, then the driver invades the other lane to try and hit the biker head on

I’m counting less than one second between ground markings from one rider to the next. 2.5+ seconds is where you want to be if you’re single file. Or, even better, ride staggered.
