I'm old enough to remember when we had a choice of black-owned and staffed hospitals in Detroit. At one time, under segregation, there were over one-hundred black hospitals instituted by a black medical staff across the country. Black doctors saw that black patients weren't getting adequate medical care from white hospitals or hospital care wasn't available for black clients, and also some hospitals would not hire black medical professionals, so they galvanize and build their own hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities. Now in 2024, only one black medical center is still in existence in the US. Many studies have shown that black patients, even with the same medical insurance as their white counterparts, get subpar medical care or outright unequal medical treatment from the hospital medical staff. The medical professionals, whose black patients put their trust, are biased and ridden with deeply -rooted prejudiced that affects their diagnosis and treatment of them.
