Everyone seems to have missed the fact that if this was recorded in 1996 them women are now dead and probably have been for a long while. A quick look on google maps shows no fences now

Just tell them to call the police if they think youre trespassing. Then show the police your definitive map, that they insist you need but don't believe you have.

Annual ramblers association walk needs to be done. A few hundred people passing by their farmhouse and removing obstacles sounds like a good idea. If they complain, you are helping out the byways agency by keeping rights of way clear.

My pa had the bridleway re-routed when he moved to his place in the early sixties. it just went along the top of the garden and out through the field boundary rather than across his garden and through the gate halfway up. Imagine his surprise to find a guy riding a horse through his cabbages one morning to 'keep the bridleway open.'

Land owners can be very possesive. I cant blame them in certain cases where gates and livestock are involved. Not all walkers shut gates and keep there dogs on leads..

This cuts both ways, there are rights of way of all sorts and it's our civil duty to keep them well exercised for the good of future generations. Where there really is no right of way then that is a different matter.

@@WiltshireByways It's not a term I'm familiar or concerned with, "right". I walk anywhere in this country. Sure I get shotguns pointed at me every now and again but who cares. When I do walk through farmhouses and their yards I don't just stand there or look in their windows being nosey, of course. 9 times out of 10 I have no problems. Edit: In this case I wouldn't have hung around to exchange any words with those residents, that's for sure.

@@WiltshireByways Well I don't know what's happened since but if my path came into close proximity of where those people live then my path would come into close proximity of where those people live. Get into all sorts of scrapes with game keeper types. Sociopaths, most of them.

@@RexOrwell I always have a police grade body cam or GoPro running whenever I am challenged by landowner. "I am audio and visual recording for our mutual protection" nearly always makes for a polite conversation. However, having a shotgun pointed at me is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out of order and the SG owner needs to have his SG certificate revoked and do some jail time.
