I first saw this video about 3 years ago and that started my relationship with Used Photo Pro, and the D300. The D300 is an awesome camera with outstanding results for cheap. In those 3 years I have bought about $15000 worth of all kinds of used gear from UPP and I now have 5 D300 bodies. Anyone who says that 12MP is not enough for great images is just full of shit. I can say that beyond a doubt, I am a big fan of the D300 and what it is capable of producing. I have read that based on 1) printer ability and 2) the limits of the human eye to see detail anything over 16MP is a waste of money if you do not intent to crop heavily in post production.A side note here, there are CF card adapters that enable you to use SD cards. Thanks Ken for introducing me to UPP and the D300.

Got mine D300 this year in March. Less than 200 euros, around 19K clicks on it, full kit with package and stuff, this thihg is really like new. Combined it with 50mm 1.4 ai nikkor, bought for 80 bucks on ebay. And this combo delivers absolutely stunning images, I was really impressed... I mean it costs combined less then average smartphone and it completely beats the crap from their fancy iphones and other garbage people tend to call "cameras" these days. What a time to live, man, what a time.

I love my D300. It's been replaced by a D800, then a D810 and now a D850, but I can't see myself parting with it. It takes wonderful shots It's survived drenching rains and has always been reliable and a pleasure to use.

Just stumbled across this old video but had to comment. I'm an amateur photographer, got serious about cameras when the D300 first came out. Went to, at the time, the only camera shop around and held and played with LOT's of cameras at the shop. After discussing all my different type's of photo's I would be taking, such as low light wildlife my selection got narrowed down drastically. The D300 was still on the list. It felt really good in my hands compared to the other plastic cameras and took outstanding photo's. So I picked up the D300 with a 50mm, 18-200mm, 150-500mm and a SB800. I still love it and would not get rid of it or upgrade any time soon. I've taken all kinds of photo's with my setup including family wedding pics and they loved them. Could not tell that an amateur took them instead of a pro. Sad thing, I paid $1,500 for the D300 when new.

I have a D700 and use of my brother's D300. Both are great cameras (the D700 is still far superior); however the D300's low light performance is awful! MY first every camera (a D3100) was better. I Would say that the D300 is great at everything except low light... Another great video Ken!

I LOVE my D300s just can not see me passing it off ever. I am sure the D300 is the same. Total Tanks and such a n ice handling camera with super imo weight and balance. My D7100 is great but somehow just can not match the 'classic feel' and shooting of my D300s. Bloody cheap and excellent deal there...crazy.

For any beginner who wants a good professional camera on the cheap, a D300(s) is an excellent choice. Do not ignore the kind of value these cameras represent! I have thought about selling mine, but I can't get what it is worth to me. It will make a great backup to my new D500.
@govindrajanv58572 жыл бұрын
Thank you for vindicating my recent decisions. I just sold the D7200 - my primary camera on the 200-500. I'd recently purchased a used D300 with a very low shutter count as a back up....In fact hardly used it. Now will be buying a D700 to pair with a 28-300 lens. And the 200-500 will go on on the D300. So the exact set up that you're advocating here - the D700 and the D300 with the the battery grip - with a FL reach ranging from 28mm to 750mm!
@StartreckTu11 ай бұрын
Did u manage to get D700? i picked one up from Bangalore with a shutter count of 1600 😂. Not a single issue or dust or anything. Came with original box and battery also mint condition. Very happy with the purchase. In next couple of years I will procure a used D4s and D700 will be my backup camera.

The D300 blew me away.....then I got the D700/D4/Df etc......but the D300 was my first DSLR that I really enjoyed using! (And I'd had about 5 other digital cameras before that as I went digital around 1998 which was too soon! D50 was my first DSLR.)

I’m returning to photography after a 25 year break. Got a D300 for $99 with low shutter count. Even using it like a manual with iso adjust, it’s immediately familiar having shot with an 8008 as my last camera…. Bonus, all my lenses work fine. I never used af anyway for my style

I currently have a d800 and I’m looking for a second camera. Thinking of a d700 to get the advantage of bigger sensor and pair the FX lenses I already have. Or a d300 to take advantage of the “zoom” I get when paring it with FX lenses. But I still don’t know if using the fx lenses on the DX is idd a good idea or if depth of field will be affected negatively. I read a lot about the poor low light performance of the d300, but combining it with a small flash would it be good enough for shooting at parties and weddings as a second camera ? I appreciate all suggestions and comments. Thanks in advance.
@WhittyPics7 жыл бұрын
I have a D300. It is a fine camera. I would think the D700 would do a little better in low light since it has an FX sensor. I haven't used mine much since I have 2 D800s and a D500 a year ago. The image quality of the D300 is really good but I know this video is 2 years old now. The D300 is made like a tank

Hey Ken, I bought an excellent, used D700 several months ago, based on your recommendation and I couldn't be happier. I'd like to upgrade my D40, so is the D300 still a viable option? I had started out thinking about a D7100 or a D500, but the thought of using the same battery and grip (along with the dirt cheap price of the D300) has me looking at a D300... Where do you stand on this in 2020? Thanks!
@RadosawOlesinski2 жыл бұрын
I bought D300 instead of my d40x. It's otsanding choice. AF is much better. Also handling and controls are much better. Serial shots with mb-d10 (fits to d700) are much faster.

The D300 and D300s both have three 1/3 ISO stops below ISO 200 Nikon terms it Lo1. Any issues setting the ISO to Lo1 in terms of picture quality? The D700 I believe has the same Lo settings ie lo1 (ISO100) Lo.7 (ISO125) and Lo.3 (ISO160)

it is, I don't mind and I am not worried about not having a 2ndary slot. Also it'd be something I would use for wedding photography. The D610 is a bit smaller, and newer, and more expensive. If money is no option I'd say go with the D610. I know some shooters that like theirs. I personally used the D700 for a few years and know it kicks ass, and it costs less. Both use full frame FX lenses. I used the 28-300 Nikkor lens for years but once I went to the 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 the IQ of my shots vastly improved.
