Technodreamer You are spot on good sir. I happened to do the exact same thing, was in Austin for a wedding and went to a showing of Whiplash. Staff was awesome at every step of the way. We got in early so we ended up getting a drink at the bar before our way in, my wife spilled her whole first drink all over me, bartender was awesome enough to replace it free or charge. Made sure to throw them a good tip for the awesome service. When our theater opened up, the staff was super cool about explaining how the whole system works and they reiterated the texting and talking point several times. Best part is, they are opening up a location on the west side of Omaha so I'm now only 30 minutes away!

Every massive AMC theater I've been to has a PSA before the film that says "don't talk or text during the movie". If someone's doing it relentlessly, I'll say something politely to them. If they keep doing it, I occasionally get annoyed enough that I go to customer service and mention it. They typically apologize, give me a free ticket voucher, and publicly reprimand/kick them out.

They have a whole series of Awesome funny don't talk messages that they play before showings. My favorite is the one with Ann Richards, RIP. If the girl who left them this message had gotten to the theater on time, she would have seen the no talking messages, wouldn't had to have used her cell phone as a flashlight to find her seat, and disturbed people around her by showing up late.

Idk why people break rules and then get all angry when they get caught. Clearly you're not supposed to talk in a movie theater. It's rude and disrespectful. Some people don't think about how their actions affect others because they're too self-centered. Come on, people. You know the rules by now. It's nothing new. Hey Alamo Drafthouse, I am SO happy that you enforce this rule! That is always a pet peeve of mine that people use their phone during a film, and it bothers me so much that they paid money for a ticket just to text or view their phone instead of enjoying a film. I just found out that El Paso, Texas (where I live) is getting an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema here, and I am definitely going there on opening day. I never been to any of your cinemas before, but I am really excited about it!

I work at a Hotel, and our breakfast/dining area closes at 11pm. We'll let people sit in it quietly, ya know. Reading, doing some work on a laptop, whatever. But if you are in a group, or loud enough that we can hear you at the front desk, we kick you out. Every time we kick people out, they have a similar reaction, or leave us bad reviews. This one time, after being asked to leave the dining area, the guest walked up to the front desk and asked for assistance. My coworker went over with him to the dining area, and he points at his pile of beer cans and says: "Clean that up for me" When my coworker refused, he went off on how we're suppose to be making him feel hospitable. I don't know why people think they can act like this.

1 - Private property, you're not free to do what you want in a private property.... anywhere in the world. If you're in a friend's house, you'll respect his rules, why won't you respect someone else's rules as well? 2 - If you have to use a flashlight to find your seat because it was too dark, you were late to the theater anyways, so you're being a nuisance anyways. 3 - Politeness includes not ruining the show to other people... it's like trying to sleep when someone is texting and watching TV right next to you. It's impossible for most people. Someone please teach her good manners... or it might be too late, I don't really know. Way to go Alamo Drafthouse :D

While I was watching "Creed" at Campbell 16 in Springfield, MO last year (which will soon be re-opening as an Alamo theater), another patron actually answered a call on his cell phone and carried on a conversation for several minutes. I don't know how practical it is to police this behavior, but anything done to kick these jerks out is appreciated. I've already joined Alamo Victory and look forward to visiting the theater when it opens. Thanks for doing what you can to prevent disruptive behavior, and good luck in Springfield.

Didn't know you can text in theaters? As if anyone needs to be distracted, after paying $13.00-$15.00 for their ticket, by your 15V phone? Amazing that ANYONE over the age of three does not understand how rude it is to use one's phones in cinemas, theaters, church, funeral parlors, libraries. Hint: it is. Go outside if you can't manage your time. Your lack of time management and your addictions to your phones are no one else's problem but your own. It is a phone, not an electronic tracking device. Positive that life will be okay without your checking your phone constantly. Honest.

Bravo to Alamo drafthouse. More places need to be like this. I used to work in a movie theatre and I would regularly kick people out for being on their phone or being too loud. Granted this was way back when and in a different country, but I have noticed that theaters in the US don't really seem to care, either not enough staff to walk the halls or actually just don't care. I have stopped going to theatres because of all the ignorant people that pull out their phones or decide to have conversations through the whole movie. It is a shame because I really love watching movies on the big screen.

Now that the Brooklyn, NY, location has opened and having watched 3 movies there, all 3 experiences were great. The waiters walking around did not bother my watching experience. Great job at training them to move about theater and still not be a distraction. All the movies I planned to watch at Regal or AMC, if Alamo has them, I will try best to watch them at Alamo. Big fan of DC, so I can't wait to enjoy Wonder Woman and Justice League at Alamo, free of the texters. I might even watch some special screenings. I love how the other theaters have their pathetic "please be quite and courteous to others" PSA. Its just paper tiger. Like the jerks won't text just because you ask nicely. Thank you for being a company that has principle, even at the risk of losing future business. Lastly, having being to Alamo, this lady texter is completely lying through her teeth. The employees manning the box office at Brooklyn location always finish the ticket sale with a texting/talking warning. Before each movie starts, the same warning PSA is played in theater. She also flat out lies that she needed her phone to find her seat. I am near-sighted and wear glasses. Today at Doctor Strange, with the movie on and lights dimmed, I could clearly see my seat number with no need of extra lighting.

if you have a phone call, step outside. it's not a hard concept, just common courtesy. same with screaming and crying children. You go to the movies to enjoy a MOVIE, just as most other people in the auditorium do. If you can't handle not being on your phone for an hour and a half or two, then you shouldn't go to the movies or bring your cell phone. If anything, just turn the damn thing off. pretty simple concept lol

I don't get the anger of those that disagree...You don't have to go to this theater. If you want to text go to a normal theater and text away...most don't want to leave report you & miss the movie even if they are annoyed. Problem solved. 99% if the people that are mad are not of age to enter this theater and if they are are too dense to grab the concept that people go here to ENJOY the movie without distractions. Is society that addicted to cell phones. Now doubt if you put it on silent and left the theater to make a call that they will care if it is not excessive. But an emergency means you probably need to leave the movie and take care of your business otherwise it can't be that much of an emergency.
