@@Thumpster59166 they probably don't have their hearing aides turned on that early. There was an elderly married couple next door from a house I was renting from my fiancée's brother. The elderly man was convinced that the fenced in back yard was part of his property and called the police a couple times about it. His wife even tried to grab our dog who was inside the fence and called the police claiming he bit her. (We had several beware of dog and no trespassing signs posted along the fence) Luckily, my father, who is now retired, worked for the local police department for 30 years and I personally knew the officers that responded to the calls. I didn't even have to explain anything because she had no evidence of being bitten. Upon seeing the no trespassing signs the officers asked them if they realized that if they wanted to pursue the matter further they'd have to arrest her and charge her with trespassing since the only way our dog could have bitten her is if she was on the rental property. Additionally, if their investigation about being bitten proved to be false, they would have to charge her with filling a false report as well. I lived there for about eight more months following that incident and I didn't hear anything from them again, even when I tested my limits a few times; like when I drug the muffler off my Jeep and didn't get it replaced for a couple weeks and I didn't get home from work until midnight.

Most of the people who have tried to manipulate me in the past were usually severe sufferers of the Dunning Kruger effect. I've been destroying them since I was 11. @James Reitsch Most of us normal white women aren't concerned about the word "Karen." Though, I have to wonder how my friends named "Karen" might feel. 🤷♀️ Seriously, as a white woman, I can say "Karen" is not used for people expressing "normal concerns." It is for people who go out of their way to make things difficult for someone instead of just acting like a reasonable person. It isn't racist. Not even remotely. Calling the building inspector for something like this is a "Karen" move. They could have said, "Hey. You want me to load some of that trash in my truck and take it to the dump for you?" My parents had nosy neighbors constantly calling the inspector when they were building their house, though they had ALL their permits. They were so nosy that they caused a massive car accident and barreled into my parents' front yard during the reception for my wedding when we had our reception at their house. Those....are "Karens."

Point being, that crackheads don't pay city fines, responsible homeowners do. I'm pretty sure that ppl with 4' of garbage in their living room don't mow too often. So this isn't a new phenomena on their route or this neighborhood. They know somebody with money bought the place. So they shake him down. Bureaucrats will be bureaucrats after all.

if the city inspector had actually seen it he would see it was nothing, it was most likely a complaint over the phone or in a letter so they only had the neighbor's word to go by

As a fellow Western NY homeowner I feel your pain dude! That permit shit is everywhere, installing a Tornado shelter 15 years ago and the county needed us to have a permit for that, decided to redo the driveway, need a permit for that, built a barn, need a permit for that. Imagine owning 20 acres of land and the County feel entitled to not only tax the living fuck out of you for the property you own but must also tax you for any upgrades to the land... So you pay for the permit, you pay for the construction, tax auditor shows up and adds the cost of all your upgrades to your next tax bill 🤨
