When Zenigata goes up against other criminals, he's often shown to be extremely competent and efficient at outwitting and arresting them. It's not that Zenigata's a bad cop. He's actually one of the best. Lupin's just *that* good.
@verdantmischief70924 жыл бұрын
@@DrMechano Yup, I agree. Zenigata is very smart but the only way to write him is to make him the comic relief, always come step behind Lupin. Ace Attorney had a similar issue, with all of the rival prosecutors needing to be replaced every game in order to not downplay their skill
@KOTEBANAROT4 жыл бұрын
@@verdantmischief7092 hard disagree. Manga Zenigata was ruthless and efficient and you felt that the only reason Lupin is still alive is because hes that good of an escape artist. You absolutely do not need to make him comic relief. Its just it easier and more fun and approachable to write him as an eccentric goof with a heart of gold instead of a really competent hard boiled guy who shoots to kill.

Lupin, to me, is like a perpetual modern noir theme. Much like in the vein of Cowboy Bebop that goes beyond it's time frame with an ever true message. Fujiko brings the mysterious femme fetal, Jign the nostalgic noir gunsmith, Goemon the classic honorable samurai, and Lupin the no-care daredevil similar to James Bond. Together they all create a perception of personifications we wish to keep through the ages: a class of people who, despite the odds, come out on top.

Lupin is a very long franchise to sit through. I began watching it starting from the 1969 pilot this January and currently I'm in the middle of Part 4. Yes, I've been watching everything in chronological order for six months now and still haven't reached the latest installment yet. One of the best things about the franchise is it having a loose continuity. One can simply jump in any part without concerning of continuity or specific plot threads with few exceptions when they do reference previous events like in anniversary specials. It is a fascinating franchise but sadly it can intimidate newer fans due to its long history and plethora of installments.

I appreciate this video. And the answer to this question really is as simple as a number. People see “part 5” and think “welp, no way I’m gonna go through at least four series, probably hundreds of episodes and movies and god knows what else just to watch this!” And they scroll past, not realizing that’s so inessential and how friendly the franchise is to jump into. It has about as much of a barrier of entry as scooby doo. Lupin is an icon and classic franchise but mainly in name only to most western anime fans, as he says. Many know *of* it but far fewer have actually put the effort forth to *watch* it. But I can’t blame people for not thinking it’s that simple. I myself didn’t realize that for a while. The fact that this is the most viewed Part V video on KZbin (that isn’t official promos) and still has less than 10k views says it all sadly. I just really wished at least one of the more influential anitubers actually gave it a watch or even just a shoutout when they had the chance. It’s a shame, I wish more people would talk about it, but I’ll do my part and shill for this wonderful series that stole my heart as well till the day I die! Earned yourself a subscriber and I genuinely look forward to seeing you cover more of the series!

I think it’s how society would expect of an anime. Because Lupin The Third was from the 70s, the perspective of the show also changed to keep up with the flow of time. However todays anime changed entirely towards fan based, erotic moments, and harem, and etc. Lupin never made that kind of drastic change because it was built upon for so many years that to change the formula would also mean to change the show entirely. The music, the animation, and the characters changed but they kept their roots. I think what Hayao Miyazaki was actually commenting on anime is trash was that anime was flowing in a different direction then what he saw from the early days of Lupin The Third when he co directed part 1. I could be wrong on this and it can be many reasons based on preference or that the genre isn’t as intriguing as it looks, but i’m just saying that the biggest impact would be the flow of time.

Ahh, yes, Lupin lll...childhood memories of me watching this in French an pestering my dad to translate, because I didn't understand much more than the names and food items. Every season is a testimony to its time, and once you've caught one season, you will flawlessly understand the entire franchise, because it is equally simple, captivating, complex and pretty much sums up why Lupin is so successfull: he always tries to keep up with times, to adapt, to change, and thus the series never grows old sticking to the same formula, but manages to remain fresh, entertaining and contemporary since over fifty-three years.

I don't know why?! Here in Italy we love it Lupin The Third from the first series until Avventura italiana . Obviously a lot Movies. Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko, Zenigata. Maybe because the kids didn't know nothing the good stuff! Every following the same anime.
What I love about the franchise is that even at it's worst it's still entertaining. I've watched parts 1, 4, and 5, TWCFM, several parts 2 and 3 episodes and over 30 movies and tv specials and even when I watch a movie or an episode that I don't like they're still entertaining and funny enough to hold my attention. Out of the 30 plus movies I've seen there's only 2 of them I trully hate (Return of Pycal which is widely considered to be the worst piece of Lupin media ever created and the first Lupin vs Detective Conan special which was essentially a really long Conan episode guest starring Lupin, and it bored me to tears)

Thank you! I have loved Lupin for years in spite of only having seen very little of Part II and several of the films. Castle of Cagliostro is one of my absolute favorite films of all time in any medium and, as always inevitably happens, I recently rediscovered Lupin, starting series IV. It’s absolutely fantastic and, whether intentional or not, you really touched on something profound when you said you’re either laughing AT it or WITH it. In most cases that would be a bad thing, but I think with Lupin it’s part of WHY it’s such a classic. Even my girlfriend who has seen VERY little of the show can appreciate and enjoy the sheer absurdity of some cheesy line or impossible feat that gives realism two flailing middle fingers, and in the same breath be stunned by a dramatic plot twist or intense moment. There’s really nothing quite like it, and I hope you never stop using Lupin as an adjective!

Yeah... the show is really amazing... and a lot of people seem to know about it, so it really is strange that not many people talk about it. it's just such a good anime..

I just love Lupin. Both the original Arsène Lupin novels from the 19th century, and the anime of his grand son Lupin the third! 💖 Those stories will always have a big place in my heart.

nice video and yeah - sadly current entertainment culture / anime fandom has seemed to have neglected the lupin franchise... :) but we over at #YearOfLupin have dedicated single videos to pretty much all Lupin projects so check us out if you want to see some diehard fans give some critical discussion on the franchise - regardless of that tho - good points made here in this video, good job!

okay why is this not on Netflix 😭 [i know, bec they have their own live action series and probably don’t wanna get involved 😩] I’ve watched the original subbed green jacket series, subbed & [old] dubbed the Castle of Cagliostro, around 4 seasons of the dubbed red jacket series when i was 8! it’s sad that no one knew about it back then and i thought this DVD handed down to us was just a once-upon-a-time classic from the 70’s

I wouldn't know who this character is if it wasn't for the laser disc game "Cliff Hanger".

I also enjoy that the series takes place over multiple time periods. One of the movies I watched takes place in the 60's where the new one is in modern day

Completely empathize with this video. It’s definitely one of my favorite anime’s. Just finished part 5 and it was incredible. Definitely one of the best series, Loved all the callbacks to past escapades.

Lupin the 3rd is one of the first anime’s I’d watch and my god it’s beautiful with so many adventures likable characters great animation and a nostalgic gem. I wasn’t into anime before and when I was finding something to watch my found lupin and I saw the first episode and I was so interested and happy and when I watched more I was in love with it. Now I continue watching the show and hope there will be more like part 6 and waiting for lupin the 3rd the first to come on blu ray. Which my favorite lupin shows is part 5 and part 2 which both are incredibly awesome. So that’s why lupin is just a masterpiece in my opinion. Sure there are stupid moments but it doesn’t make the show awful it makes it superior

Considering the first 28 episodes of Part II as well as Part IV and Part V have been shown on Adult Swim/Toonami, I’d hardly say nobody talks about it.
