Hermitcraft has always had three kinds of members (with significant overlap): builders; redstoners and social players. The other three recent additions are all S-tier builders, and while they all also excel at the social component, Skizz is the first new addition to fits more the mold of a Joe Hills or ZombieCleo-talented builders, all, don't get me wrong-but who is first and foremost building the *community* and fostering friendship and collaboration.

Season 10's biggest and most important change was having the hermits bases closer together - It makes the server more of a living tapestry and less 20 loosely connected singleplayer series and led to far superior builds, spontaneous interactions and storylines.
@GSBarlev
@GSBarlev 22 сағат бұрын
I actually think that the centrality of the shopping district is more significant than the closeness of the bases. Consider the exceptions: Joe, xB and Doc all have bases *considerably* away from spawn, but they're just as involved in the day-to-day as people who live right next door (Keralis and The Neighborhood). I could be wrong, but I believe the necessity for base separation was historically to mitigate lag, and that's no longer a concern with modern Minecraft running on modern hardware.

The only thing I disagree with is the idea that these evolutions are designed with content in mind. I think the secret sauce to hermitcraft has always been genuine fun, and these evolutions were made to make it more fun for the hermits and the content follows. Imagine adding proxchat to an smp with your best friends, or a mail system, or a way to make owning and using shops not suck, it just seems like they cut out the annoying boring stuff and are enjoying the server that much more for it

I think that’s why I’ve always loved hermitcraft and been drawn to it, especially as someone who struggles for true and honest friends. the way they find the balance between content creating, their own lives, jobs (if they aren’t a full-time content creator), and the way they handle discourse when things go wrong and keep the server together, and most of all the genuine fun and friendship you mentioned- it’s really great, honestly.

Looking back at the mega build era (when literally everyone made mega builds) it was fun for the first bit, but after a while it got very repetitive. The last 2-3 seasons have definitely been a lot less of that and more fun overall.

Man I love seeing Skizz get his recognition. Skizz has an absolute superpower, and that superpower is just being incredibly likable and easy to cheer for. He’s just such a pure person. His willingness to praise others and lift them up at every possible opportunity is incredible to watch. He’s also a perfect conduit for the viewers to connect with the server, because experiencing it through him feels like what I imagine experiencing it yourself feels like, because he’s just so dang relatable. All in all. Great content creator. Better person.

I think another thing I love about Skizz is we aren’t seeing some mega talent come on and make awesome builds. We are watching Skizz start his building journey essentially. He’s relatable to a lot of us because he is just a Minecraft player having a great time. And watching him learn new things is really inspiring because that man is incredibly dedicated but also he is improving. And I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple years from now something will spark in there and he will be making awesome builds. I mean the fact he’s offered to help bdubs with the nether hub so he can learn off of bdubs. Scar getting Skizz involved in designing the poepoe hq, gem putting some pressure on Skizz to keep going with his base. It’s brilliant. That’s why Skizz is so great. He’s relatable, he’s got a massive heart and he’s just fun to be around

You can see this as a viewer because before season 6 there wasnt anything as close as to how big the civil war was. Grian is a good builder, its how i found his channel but what makes him special is that he has an eye for good collabaritive content. Thats why the life series is so successfull. One other thing about the permits that solved a previous problem in the shopping district is that the shops that tend to do the best are the one stop shops that sell a lot of things at once. Think of the Barge, for example. Those kinds of shops, while very convenient, tend to overshadow other shops that specialize in items that the one-stop shops also sell. Through the permit system, this problem is mitigated and allows the other players to more equally gain more sales.

I think the biggest reason is because so many of them were facing burnout. Then they had so much fun on a group project, and maybe even listened to their core fans who had been saying for months, "We will watch you do anything, please stop making yourself miserable.", and decided that 'being together' was the way forward. Scar said he'd been pushing for a server wide version of what they did with Boatem and I think that's what we are seeing. It's so much fun to watch this season because they are having so much fun.

Skizz being added to the server wasn't something I "agreed" to in the beginning, meaning I didn't think it was the best choice seing his poor skills in building or gameplay in general, but I was totally wrong. He's constantly improving and even if he wasn't, everytime he's there it's like there's a second sun shining, he's just so nice and friendly and easy going all the time. He's making interactions between the hermits better, and in the end, interactions between the hermits are one of the pillars of hermicraft. It's not just about skills

I thought he was a good addition in the sense that he's the 'everyman' added to the server. He loves the game, but he's not 'professional' levels of skilled. He's just your average Joe Minecraft player like me. So I can watch someone like me building and learning from the Hermits and figuring out both the server and the content creation side. He also gets along with everyone which is a Hermit consideration.

What the permits do is pre-load a point of (playful) drama and semi-required building projects. That's been really great. Maybe they also help keep supplies of resources up, but I'm less sure about that. I also like that there's also a black market emerging. Whether they bring them back for later seasons or not, I don't really care. As long as they keep introducing gimmicks to encourage new interactions and builds.

You mentioned the Permits and honestly it kinda works. The one thing I think could be better would very much be that there should be multiple of a permit so then some competition can be present. Maybe even add a hard cap on the amount of permits a Hermit can have (lol rhyme). That way you not only have to have competition for diamond prices, but they compete for best user experience. Like how Etho made Frogger in minecraft or Impulse made Go Touch Grass. The shopping experience is way better than the Barge shop. I'd probably liken the Barge to a Costco (all that you need under one roof) and the newer shops to more specialized shops with a priority on making it an experience you want to do again.

It's not the best system so far, I hope for improvements once the Nopo actively advocates some change. Making changes just a bit to hard really demotivated hermits to interact with the permit office in my opinion. Cub saved the authority of the office, but the regulations need to adapt. Mumbo summed it up well: " in past series you could just buy blocks at the shopping district, now i treat myself to some blocks every now and then" Sorry for my permit rant, let's see some opinions XD

I like encouraging people to make shops for less popular items to help benefit the whole. but i feel like the more free form regulation of season 7 felt better from a viewer perspective. Maybe for season 11 well get the permits back but with some weeks to make them a bit more flexible.

Ah, so _you're_ one of the people who says "Nylium." I didn't think they existed-I've always only ever heard "Nylium." Anyway, I agree with you on the significance of the mail system, as it's generalized a method of asynchronous comms and avenues fopr collaboration that's worked well on a smaller scale for years (Secret Santa; Hermit Challenges; King Ren's Server Quests)· Regarding the permits: I always knew they were going to be fun, one way or another (I know I'm not the only one who expected a revolt) but I didn't appreciate how it would *force* each Hermit to contribute actively to the community where they might otherwise be focused on their own mega-builds. Ren's sherd shop is a great example.Sherds are *a pain in the toucans* to collect, and without the permit, I don't think anyone would have bothered trying to sell them. So now someone like Joe, who is already too busy to spend 100 hours raiding trial chambers, can just buy the one that's literally his logo, even if it is incredibly expensive.

In the middle of season 9, i started to write on the Hermitcraft reddit, that they have to change something with the shops. Because every year it was the same. This Hermit did that shop, the other Hermit did that shop, over every year. Best example: Impulse hat season 8 & 9 the book shop and made diamonds like crazy with that shop. Cleo got the permit now and she learned how to do proper villager trading. I proposed that they just put their names on a piece a paper and randomize who gets what shop. So can a non redstone Hermit get a shop which needs a farm for the shop and because they are not good with redstone, they can ask a redstoner to help them make a farm (like gem did with impulse in season 9) and learn some redstone. For the help, they can pay with a IOU (or whatever) to the redstoner. The IOU can be like, if the redstoner needs help with making their builds better. A few liked that, but a lot disliked the idea. I am not saying that i was the person that gave the Hermits the idea for the permits. I'm just saying i was one of them that wanted the permits. And i like how they implented them. For the next season i hope they do something similiar, but in a different way. Another thing i wanted was that no Hermit can have a farm for what another Hermit is selling. Example: Joel has the honey permit. Nobody else should allowed to farm honey, except Joel. If a Hermit needs honey, they have to build it from Joels shop. And so on. If you find a spider, skeleton or zombie spawner, that spawner goes over to the Hermit with that permit (Bones, String and flesh). But that brings problems. Some spawners or farms lets you get multiple items. Thats where i thought, the farms that brings multiple items (like a gold farm) can be shared or be selled to other Hermits with the right permit. And not having 5 different gold farms from 5 different Hermits. That way, the Hermits can work together on a project. I know it still not perfect, because time zones, real life and the content what they planned is gone. Its not flawless, its just a thing what they should think of. It will never be perfect, but its a good thing!

Honestly skizz is an endorphin generator, he is also our pov character, the hermits teaching him end up being the hermits teaching us, it brings thoses professional minecrafter back to what is common knowledge about the game and what is not, they often assume complicated things are quite obvious because these are people whose job has been to know the game inside and out for over ten years. Enter Skizz, who has great chemistry with everyone he meets, ask questions and tries new things and is always down to participate. And he makes the game we know by heart feel fresh and new and interesting and we realise that we know less than we though and than there is much to be enjoyed, his curiosity isn't limited to the same group, he goes all around the server. In a lot of perspectives we only see the same few hermit and corner of the server. Skizz expends our view, it never feels boring, always feels fun and happy, and always feels that there is more to see next episode. And his editing is great as well. So yeah, if you haven’t given him a chance, watch Skizz :)

Some comedians are great at writing jokes. Some are good at building on what other people say but can never invent a premise themselves. Skizz is the second. If you're the kinda person who can set a story, the first person you should want on your team is Skizz so you can really see where your story can go

I think you are completely right in the fact that the life series is also basically perfected. and hermit craft is having benefit from it to: at the beginning of season 10 they did a life style game to determine who would get the joker permit. so maybe we can see more of these small thing from the life series in following hermit craft seasons. also, think one of the reasons why the life series are so fun might be that we see interactions between hermits who don't interact often

I know it might sound very weird but i really like the permit office and cort room like i know it‘s made to seem boring but i just love that they are kind of mixing real life things into hermitcraft (I might just love it since i‘ve never had to go to the office myself yet) Edit: or i might just like seeing scar, joel or someone else in pain even tho they really need that permit

i think what hermit need is an all member online at the same time, at least once every one or two weeks, where hermit interact with each other more. one of the factor that made the life series great is every member is online at the same time, and the spontaneous action is often great.. it also made hermit to be more creative to response at the current event.. i know some hermit are shy.. that why maybe once a month is good too. bcoz for me personally am not in for the build but for the interaction between member.. and i would love to know more about other hermit that i dont watch that often other than when big collab is happen,

It's been incredible watching them slowly come into this new era of well, relaxation. And what I mean by that is just how natural their interactions have become, in the ways you mentioned. Season 8 was fun when they got together, but was much more of a build showcase and lead to a lot of burnout. Season 9 was a bit of transition period (way too short!), but season 10 feels like everything finally clicked and the tools they had set up became second nature to utilize.

The appeal to skizz for me is that he plays minecraft like how I play minecraft. He's not amazing at building or PVP or roleplaying, but that's what makes him loveable. He's kind of an every man.

I’ve been watching Lizzie and Joel since Lizzie only had 20k followers and they two weren’t even dating yet. I watched the life series and all of the other smp Lizzie has been on, but never got around to hermitcraft despite hearing about it. Joel being added got me to start watching hermitcraft and I have now binge watched almost all the hermits this season. Truthfully it’s so good.

I had no idea that 'lifesteal' was the name of a minecraft SMP before this was recommended to me, however, lifesteal is a mechanic in several MMOs, MOBAs, roguelikes, and more. That's probably where a lot of that trends data is coming from. Hermitcraft s10 is hands down the best season so far, with an astonishing level of polish from everyone.

I didn’t even know Season 10 was still going on. Hermitcraft doesn’t even pop up in my recommendations anymore because they are releasing videos so irregularly and infrequently. TBH, Grian puts FAR more effort into his Life series than Hermitcraft. You’ll notice he does HC for a few months to boost the algorithm’s recommending his channel and then he almost exclusively does his life series. Basically he uses HC to prime his exposure to launch his spin-offs. The big problem with HC is that they make their seasons far too long with HUGE lulls in the middle while the hermits run off and do their own thing outside of HC. What would increase the quality of HC would be to have longer breaks between seasons, have the hermits pour their creative effort into a shorter season, and then ending it within 9 months or so. Then hermits can’t do their own thing to avoid burnout. Otherwise you end up with what’s happened the past few seasons where people are burned out mid-season and just doing other things while neglecting HC or worse, just disappearing for months on end. You can always tell when the season is about to end because there is suddenly an uptick of all the hermits releasing episodes after having been basically awol for months. In short, the life series doesn’t feed Hermitcraft, it’s the other way around. They need to shorten the seasons so the hermit’s don’t burn out so often, and have longer breaks between seasons for spin-offs and the like so that when the shorter season do come out, there’s a higher demand by the audience and effort put into it by the hermits. As of right now, Hermitcraft is just not as interesting as it used to be. It peaked at Season 7-8 and has quickly died down from there. This taking a summer break mid season thing completely kills it. There’s a reason no other media form has 18 month long seasons, it doesn’t work.

You should do a video about secret life, wild life and limited life ! (personally I think they all bring something new and can’t really be compared because of the premise in each , but I do wish that wildlife had more drama and betrayal / alliances etc like the last seasons )

I’m a big fan of the permits, but I think they’d be at least a little better if there was ever so slightly more enforcement to get things completed, if they had a few duplicate permits for competition’s sake, and if the collective permits had a bit more emphasis. That last one being my most sought after one. From the jump I thought the collective permits could essentially become guild halls, and it could set up a story about guild wars for dyes or something, but so far I haven’t seen too much engagement with the collective permits. I don’t watch every perspective or anything, so maybe I’m missing big stuff, but it always strikes me as mostly a collection task for one rather involved hermit and then they end up managing what would otherwise have been a singular permit. In any event, these are all minor nitpicks that have popped up to me but that I’ve not fully thought through or anything. I just think it’d be neat on first blush.

Permits should be a permanent addition, but I think it won't be a lottery and it will be more self policed. Players will "race" to build farms to obtain the permits and get resources out to the masses. Whoever can supply it first gets the permit. Or whoever can supply it best gets the permit. The problem with shops and farms is that diamonds are a mostly useless currency now and trading has made them easy to mass. I honestly wouldn't mind Hermitcraft adding a mod to include a currency much like they've done with player heads. Something rare that can be spent on unique items. There still needs to be an incentive to grind for resources for others and it makes sense not to have 10 hermits build a tree farm when one is sufficient for the whole server.
