For the Nether hub my first thought was of Yellowstone National Park’s sulfur pools. These naturally forming volcanic springs are brightly colored and esoteric looking, which I think complements the nether. Surrounding each of these pools are elevated platforms that actually look very similar to the scaffolding platforms that currently exist. The Sulfur pools could be made from glass (non-spawnable) and the surrounding areas could be half slabbed, shallow terrain. Hopefully this helps!

Regarding the nether hub, given the raw and scattered atmosphere of the place, I would really aim for an open build. You could leave it as an open space, and create a desert-like field of rolling hills made out of slabs, with a portal (or several ones) on top of each hill. This would take advantage of the unorganized allocation of portals, and make it feel natural. Also, the structure would be fully walkable, easy to oversee and you would not have the logistical (and potentially bad looking) problem of connecting everything through intricate structures. The landscape could be crisscrossed with small paths, and filled with tiny whimsical structures, artworks or vegetation (or could be left empty for a brutalist wasteland-like vibe). You could also consider to build a large overarching hall or dome, if the nether skybox does not suit the build.

The scaffolding looks like pontoon bridges. Hå long bay (hellscape edition) feels like it would beautifully support the trading and transport vibe. It would uses the cliffs and rocks to enclose the whole area, while keeping the portals accessible. You’d have merchant ships and spice trader vessels and armour stands around the shopping portal. Each hermit could decorate their portal with a nod to their permits.

Alright Bdubs, here's my ideas for the Nether Hub: - Train Stations/Airports: Have you played mini motorways or have you seen the London Tube maps. Should be somewhat simple but you could make each portal have it's own little airport or station. - The Brain Neurons: Hermitcraft is one mind full of creative neurons. Take mumbo's 'Mined' as inspiration and build a brain of portals. - The Circuit Board: Portals are light bulbs and power sources and the pathways are the wires. - Dungeons and EnderDragons: Go full Castle/Dungeon hallways with low lamp light and Doom vibes. - Creaking Kingdom: Stick to the grey scale only and create something with some of the new blocks available with a Creaking centre piece Hope that gives you some more ideas to think about.

I actually envision the nether hub as a space similar to the docks in Yume Nikki. With black stained and tinted glass, you can create dark, murky waters and have lampposts to brighten the area. It also serves to mask the bedrock, maybe adding black concrete below would also help? You could even pop in some islands in between large gaps. Dunno how you’d handle the red fog of the nether with that, but that was my first thought.

Hey Bdubs My ultimate Nether hub design that's lived in my head for years Build a 1/8th scale map of the overworld, which has been done on hermitcraft before. However you include the height differential, with tiny mountain ranges and valleys on the nether roof. Meaning that you physically fly over the map through the nether to get to your destination. Portals would also be at their correct height coordinates with this accounted for The easiest way to spawn proof this would be to use carpets, which would limit the map to 16 colours, however the blocks under these could be anything. Allowing hermits to customise the areas around their portals to reflect their base/style of they wise. Previously the hub was boxed in, but I don't think that's necessary, just allow free flight out of the undeveloped areas which can be built up as needed. Close to the end of the season it could even be updated to show the terra forming/base development that has happened over time Thanks for reading my idea. I met you back at minecon 2012! Loved you then, love you still
@guy848389 сағат бұрын
for the nether i recommend embracing the hellish aesthetic with black gothic and ornate designs! that will fit well with the already spooky portals there such as scar's murder door. i think you should start by improving the bridges, adding decorative wall/fences, adding points of interest, and also a perimeter around all the portals! kinda like an evil garden/hedge maze? if that makes sense? godspeed and goodluck with whatever you end up doing!

Also, regarding the nether hub - I think it would be very fun to incorporate wind charge flight launchers like the one Cub showed you recently, and lean hard into that flying-friendly design principle as well as the current update. It might even be a way to incorporate elevation changes with platforms or towers in the space between connecting paths to allow folks to launch up or glide, and decor that is more about giving directions or indications of what else is outside the main hub on the roof (like all the carpet paths etc.)

For the nether hub, since everyone is flying around, maybe tie important visual information into the floor. Lights/lines leading to far portals, platform color code-ordinating with portal type. (base, common area, etc.) With having no ceilings or walls to keep it open, make a few vertical landmarks that draw the eye to help orient yourself when you hop out of a portal and instantly start flying off.

For the nether hub, a complete Truman-show style subversion of the nether, glass ocean with sandy-beachy islands and/or boats for the portals to rest on. The ocean and the beaches can be very flat, making traversing easy as well as meaning the portals can be in roughly the same y level. All you’d need is a big backdrop of some pixel art to make the skyline, and and some palm trees, maybe some armour stand crabs?? Plus glass-fog trick can go all the way down to bedrock while not being accessed to add to the depth of the water

The orb will have glass path walks and will lead into other portals that can be decorated as stars. this design will be flexible because if you are extending the hub, you can just break a hole into the back of the other stars/orbs and continue that glass path edit: the main base will be the one who are connected to the central orb and for the limitations who are the bedrock below you can just make it so it looks like its coming out of bedrock using glass magic

The sky in the nether is red so maybe turn the netherhub into a huge beach scene with a sun out of wool or something far in the background as a fake sunset. 🏖

My first thought picturing how to do the Nether Hub with how it's laid out currently is to build the floor of the hub directly on the bedrock, and set the portal frames into pedestal-like platforms that keep them raised up. It's strongly form over function, because there will be the need to make all the pedestals climbable, whether by stairs, ladders, or what have you, but I really like the mental image the comes with building the portals to each hermits' base as a monument to them, almost like giant trophies.

For the nether Im imagining stairways of various heights going up to the portals like an mc Escher painting, then make a big floor and mostly no roof with some taller structures scattered around to add interest

For the nether hub ,you could build anything on top and where are the portals make kind like the end portal, where you go down and enter the portal

Nether Hub: With all those limitations I would probably go for something like the rainbow road levels from mario cart! Glass rainbow floors, some nice spawn proof decoration around that don't get in the way while flying with the elytra from portal to portal and decorate all those portals like entries to different worlds, with some indication to what they connect to with their designs.

Bdubs, I’m a creative in an entirely different discipline (audio) but I just wanted say your artistic process has always inspired and translated into new ideas and processes for me. I’m very grateful for what you offer my creative spirit during my down time. All the best bdubs.

Beautiful work as always. I cried when xB saw Bishop’s doghouse. I’m a dog person who has had 3 dogs cross the Rainbow Bridge (at 10, 10, & 13.5 years old). It is always rough, but Bishop was so young. xB & Ferks shared their journey from the puppy search through Bishop’s passing & many people were touched by his short life. Thanks for honoring him and our love for our canine family members.

What if you went for a overgrown runic design. Where all of the portals are old scattered ruins that were revived. Maybe creating a sanctuary because you hate the nether. It might create some lore.

For the nether hub, maybe a massive space with a vaulted ceiling, like the inside of a cathedral? Leaves things open, minimal upward-facing blocks, and the red fog would give a real sense of distance and make the space feel even bigger! P.S. Great relaxing video, just what I needed after a hard day of work

50:00 I think, building off of Joe’s area in the nether, a 1/8th scale model/map of the overworld could work pretty well! Build it out of wool+carpet and nothing will spawn

Didnt the hermits have that in a season already? I want to say season 4 maybe? I seem to remember a tiny representation of the mumbo-drone. However, it is still a good idea.

For the nether hub: a dark and moody forest with huge trees. The stems so high that you can barely see the top. Or: huge cave with stalagmites and stalactites. Moody but colorful because of all the minerals. Both concepts would embrace the chaos. Can't wait to see what you're coming up with; what you've done to XBs base was wonderful!

What came to mind for me was a Mad Max type of wasteland for the nether hub, the portals could be on vehicles getting transported, or placed in crumbling structures.

I'm glad you're building the nether hub! I was afraid there wouldn't be one this season and they were always cool in previous seasons. Tango's hub from S9 and the minimap from S6 did the etherial realm feeling really well. I always wanted to build a nether hub that's like an explorer's base on an alien planet. Scientists opened portals to this other world and are establishing research outposts there. Portals can be open or enclosed in huts or caves. Mirrors the actual use of the nether where you all opened portals there for a more industrial use, transport. Doesn't have to be aliens either, could be an underworld like the actual nether, or whatever else

For the nether roof: Only do a foreign planet surface using elevation to highlight portals. You could even request hermits to personalise their own portal to keep them recognizable. Maybe some alien vegetation?
