Sweet version of I Remember Learning How to Dive. This was back when they were the best band in the world. Such warmth and pure basic musicality. I respect them so much for doing whatever they feel like, but there's a soul in their folksy stuff that is just SO comforting. Sung Tongs has that in big loads in particular.

The melody of the guitar in that song sounds like "Boys Latin" by Panda Bear. However, I prefer the sincerity of the sound in "Happy Singing Band" more. I am amazed by how lovely Animal Collective sounds in this video. They might be famous for their more recent psychedelic electronic rock/pop, but I appreciate them most for their early songs and performances, such as this one.

"Winter's Love" is the highlight for me. It's so beautifully-arranged but also sounds somehow desperate, moreso than the studio version by a longshot. It reminds me of 90s-era Modest Mouse, with that weird tribal element they had then.

Anco is so much more fun to watch when they sit around and experiment with their guitars or MIDI's instead of their clear cut 3 minute songs they did on painting with. Don't they understand we love them for the SOUL in their music as much as the songwriting itself. Painting With felt just lacking in that whole abstract experimental sound that I fell in love with them for in the first place..

Endlessnameless there were effects in Painting with and honestly I felt like it was a good idea to have them soft. Mostly because songs like Floridada, Hocus Pocus, Vertical, and Golden Gal didn't have a need for them. All of them were good with just the music, beats, and vocals.

I felt a lot of soul/experimentation/adventerousness in their Painting With music and shows. I don't think they've ever not been extremely fascinating, bold, and magical at any point of their career. I'm a die hard fan and I'll always defend Painting With. That album seems straightforward for them but there's a LOT of strange, wonderful, emotional stuff going on there

The studio version of Baby Day is a b-side to Who Could Win a Rabbit. I remember Learning How To Dive is on the Prospect Hummer EP. The other songs never made it to the studio (as far as we know hehe) except for Lablakely Dress and Winter's Love, which are on Danse Manatee and Sung Tongs. Also, if you look up "Animal Collective Breezeblock Session" you can find a sweet version of Covered in Frogs they recorded for a radio show.
