Goldie is definitely one of my favorite villagers - I found out about her in Happy Home Designer and have wanted her to live in my New Leaf town ever since. She was the first villager I ever had visit my campsite in Pocket Camp. Not only is she adorable, but normal villager types are my favorites, and she's one of them. I've been seeking out her amiibo card ever since my first encounter with her so that I don't have to wait for her to visit my New Leaf campsite, since the chances of that happening are about 1 in 333 XD

Lukewarm take: I like the rolling log world presentation of later Animal Crossings a lot more than the top-down, grid-based map from the GameCube one. I do, however, miss the multi-layered maps you could get in the first one.

I think I got some really good starter villagers when I played. I got my favorite villager Flurry who is a cute little white hamster. I really like the deer Beau too. I didn't like Diana at first mostly because of the "no doy" catchphrase but now it is "Scurvy dog!" which makes her much better. Some favorites that weren't a part of my original town is Poncho the bear and Julian the Unicorn. I don't have a lot of villagers to chose from at this point for favorites since I only started during PBG's Bad Gate town and have been too busy to play regularly. I have never had Angus but I have had T-Bone as a starter. I kept writing notes to people about how he is a cannibal because he likes eating T-bone steaks.

My favorite villager is Bones the dog. The very first time I picked up an animal crossing game, it was Wild World for the DS, and Bones was one of the initial villagers in my first town. Five years later I picked up New Leaf, and the first town I made... Bones was there again. I don't know how small the chances are of that happening, but I was super jazzed about it! So Bones is my bestie :D Also, two quick tips. When you're on the train with Rover, he will only show you about 5 or 6 maps. Once he's shown you all the maps he's generated, he cycles through them again. So if you see one you like, you can skip past it to peruse the other options, and it'll cycle back around. As for starting tools, always check and see which tools the nook store is selling. If you talk to Isabelle and run through the 'tutorials' she gives you, she will offer you either a bug net or a fishing rod for free. It's the fastest way to get your main tools on the first day.
