I've had my Florida kingsnake for about two months now and I'm very grateful to find this video! They are sorely underrated and it's difficult to find much specific information on them, but this video answered a lot of questions I had.

Cool brother. I just rescued a large 5+ Florida King named Elvis. Literally an awesome snake we use for our snake education classes. Thanks for the good break down. 🐍

This is an awesome video guy! I love that you corrected the opossum article about poison. However there are actually some snake species that are poisonous. The Oregon garter snake eats rough skinned newts and absorbs their toxins, the japan tiger keelback also retains toxins from anurans they eat. And I believe there is a species in South america that preys on dart frogs and retains toxins but im not entirely sure on that! Awesome stuff though im subscribed!

Nicely done video. I just got a Florida king about a month ago and this was one of the best videos about them. And seeing yours gives me a good idea of what I'm in store for when it gets fully grown. Just hope it isn't a threat to my cat should it escape the enclosure lol.

Thank you! To an adult cat a FL king isn't much of a threat I'd say

@@unchartedwild2166 Thanks for that. She's an adult but a smaller one, about the size of a yearling cat. And declawed in front. But i also imagine that by the time the snake gets that big (it's about 10 to 12 inches now), both animals would be aware of and used to each other's presence.

Back in high school I read a book about king snakes and it showed a picture of it eating a coral snake. I saw videos of a king snake eating a Mojave desert rattlesnake in which has the same neurotoxins as a coral snake. So they are immune to that type of venum as well!

Years ago I used to have Florida kingsnakes as pets. They were great. Most of them were quite tame, though my brooks was about as wiggly and active as the one in the video. I had a female that absolutely adored the attention. Every time I'd open her cage she'd crawl up to me for me to handle her. She'd always crawl over my shoulder, around my neck, over my ear, then lick my nose with her tongue. She also loved to wrap around my wrist and would sit there for quite some time, with her tail wrapping and unwrapping. Generally, they were good eaters. My brooks was an absolute pig and developed a second chin before I put him on a diet.

I once fed my FL King 6.5 feet long a large freshly killed rat. The snake got past the head and shoulders but the body fluids swelled up the remainder and was much too large for the snakes head. If anyone knows how the snake solved this problem, post it here. The snake has a method.

I hate that people freak out so much about Burmese pythons in Florida but don't give two F's about feral cats or people who let their cats roam the neighborhood. Cats kill for fun and destroy local ecosystems but no politician would dare tell people they have to keep their cats indoors or pay people to kill feral ones.

Hey...that's a great point. I couldn't agree more. Matter of fact I'm all for open season on all feral/wild cats. They are all around unhealthy and dangerous.
