I am so glad I found your site finally someone that answers all the questions I have about caring for a bearded dragon! One thing though, as a former vet tech and current biology teacher, coccidia aren't bacteria they are single celled protozoans. But your channel is still the best and thank you for making us all more educated in beardie care!!!

My older cat was not doing so well, gave her a coccidia treament along with our sick kitten, my cat gained weight, had a ton of energy, and was so much happier. Glad you brought this up because my Augie tells me she's done with her food by pooping in her bowl. Not really but she's done in more than once as well as her water bowl. Luckily as soon as she does it its a deep clean. Which isn't hard because i use s paper towel like table liner cut to size that comes in a giant roll as big as a dining room table. I throw it away every time she goes in her enclosure. If she steps in it or her tail gets in it its right in the tub she goes. Actually she gets a bath every few days. Are you telling me beardie poo has no smell at all? In that case both mine must be sick because its foul. Not drop dead stench but also not perfume smelling poop. With that said now i need more videos that go more in depth on bacteria types. I just want to say thanks to your channel ive been able to "troubleshoot" Whats going on with my beardies. Our bearded dragon likes to poop like normal, and then rub her cloaca in front of whatever surface she pooped on to clean her cloaca lol! It’s so funny to watch. Also, we just got a new baby and she has pins worms and coccidia. Thank you for the informative video!

I do Reptile carpet, but I'm one of the few that changes it out everytime my dragon poops. Yes it's a pain sometimes, but worth it to keep her healthy. It then gets soaked in the wash in hot water, oxyclean, and scent free detergent for an hour, washed in hot water, then dried on high. Hammocks, too, when she poops on those. My vet specialist was pleased with this method.

Why don't you just use sand it absorbs the moisture an most likely won't spread any bacteria. Beardies DO NOT GET IMPACTION FROM LOOSE SUBSTRATE. they get impaction from being dehydrated while also having low heat.

This video has probably saved my bearded dragon's life, he's been very very lethargic for about a couple of months and I thought maybe he was getting ready to brewmate because they are native to Australia and they are just getting ready to go into fall right now. I've heard that sometimes bearded dragons will follow Australia's weather patterns instead of our weather patterns here in the States. He's eating really good, he actually comes to life when I feed him but other than that he's just a bump on a log and I'm thinking he probably has a parasite.... I did not intend for this to be that long I apologize

Ok so, I just adopted my bearded dragon two days ago and we noticed on the drive home she pooped. It was this awful dark brown almost black runny crap and it stunk BAD. She won't eat AT ALL. And she won't move unless she is going to lay under her basking rock for the night to sleep. We did all our research, her heat is good and lighting, we are offering different varieties of food, she has plenty of space and water. So we decided to do our own research and found out she most likely has this. We don't want to buy just any de-wormer amd risk hurting her if she doesn't have it, so we are taking her to the vet tomorrow to have her checked out and prescribed the right medication. Always look after your beardies, do your research, and make sure they have the bets care. Stay safe 👍

I'm unsure if this is the same product you are talking about but my treatment and prevention of coccidia for my quail, ducks, cats, and dogs is this formula called Corid sold at Tractor Supply and also online. It is intended for use on cattle, goats, etc and you add it to their water according to the animal's weight. For my birds I also treat their water regularly with a couple tbs of apple cider vinegar(with the mother) for their gut health. I find it more difficult to add these both to dog or cat water because they are very picky to taste and smell lol unsure if a lizard would react the same or not. In addition, I find that sprinkling diatomaceous earth(FOOD GRADE ONLY) on their food, water, or bedding prevents not only external parasites and pests but it actually kills internal parasites and organisms! Hope this helps someone!

My beardie actually hates pooping in his cage. He waits until we let him out and to take a dookie. If he happens to poop in his cage he avoids it and refuses to get close to it. He will go to the opposite side of his tank in fact. I wonder if he instinctively knows to stay away from it. Also, I wonder if in nature they poop far away from their home to avoid scent traces for predators.

Quick question! My beardie has had coccidia for a while… I treated him with Albon months ago and noticed he’s been acting super lethargic as of recently and ran another fecal. It was positive again with a small number of eggs. I’m planning to treat him with ponazuril that I will get from my vet since I work there. I’ve become increasingly more concerned with his lack of energy, he sleeps on the cold side of the tank, etc. but he will eat. Does this sound normal? Or is there something else going on?

The scare thing about coccidia is the signs often show when it's too late. My beardie showed the slightest of signs 5 days before passing. There wasn't enough time to do anything unfortunately

This is true, but can be caught by fecals every 6 months, you can even do your own fecals. Also you can treat for it as well w.o confirmation since its easy to treat for.

I have a six yr old Beardie. He's my pal. I've had him his whole life. I have run into a problem with him and have no vet that will see him near me. I did get lucky and have had one actually test his poop for me, but that's all he agreed to do. He is vaping after feeding really bad almost looks like he is trying to puke or breathe. He has become very thin and lethargic, so yea it's gotten worse. Fecel test came back with pin worm eggs I did treat him for that but no difference.can anyone plz give some ideas as to what this could be . I'm lost and do not know where else to turn. After seeing this cute guy i want another one but i dont want to go through the heart break again. So my bearded dragon hasn't woken up in 2 days. He will move if I bug him. But he will not open his eyes right now. Is he dying. I've been too broke to eat myself or feed him. He's also apparently an evolved individual. I pretty much went down a rabbit hole. The best signs I saw this morning were he's been hanging where it's cold. He's overweight. Biggest problem is he's got carpet. He sleeps without darkness which I found out is uncommon.

Yeah! It’s just great when all the vets near me including the ones off island 6 hrs there and back not including the vet itself all cost over 150 dollars for quick treatment and appointment. Not mentioning the 40 dollars for boat and around 150 for plane leaving me to either wait a month or spend atleast 200 dollars for treatment all because everyone’s got to have there cats daily nail trimming.
