Are you going to show what the parasite eggs look like under the microscope and how to prepare the slide? I think it's important for people to be able to identify what type of parasite eggs they're looking at if they're going to deworm at home. Another reason to be able to identify the species of parasite is that fenbendazole does not treat coccidia which is also commonly found in bearded dragons.

Thank you so much for this. I have 2 questions: 1. Does that same medication treat all (or most) common bearded dragon parasites? 2. I have 2 bearded dragons with Adenovirus, which results in them both being susceptible to parasites. Because a vet visit + fecal test is about $200 total, and I need to get them tested 2-3 times per year each, it can get very, very expensive. If the medication is very safe, is there a reason not to just treat my beardies if I SUSPECT parasites? It would save a significant amount of money and speed up them getting treatment (a vert visit takes a week or so , plus results also take a week here). I supposed that a reason not to would be that I might miss something else that might be causing the issue, but I would be able to tell if the medication did not clear things up, and then bring them to the vet. I realize that optimum would be to bring them to the vet every 3 months or so, but I'm thinking that this might be a better way to handle it, especially considering that they are prone to parasites, and that the parasites have a more detrimental effect on them that they would to a healthy beardie. Your practical advice here would be helpful.

It's so hard to deal with parasites in tiny critters. Great video! It's wonderful that there's a safe medication for them. With some animals vets are having to guess how to treat them, because there's not enough research. I've rescued ferrets for more than 20 years, and unfortunately vets still don't know much about them, in spite of their being very popular pets.

With such a a gorgeous close-up, of Fenix, I noticed a darker orange around her neck area. My Rankin's lizard has this, and I wondered if you knew what it is? With the Rankins, it is bright orange, and almost looks like it could be scraped off (but it can't - well I never have!) and it is almost a fluorescent bright orange. Many thanks, great info on worming, thankyou for educating us. Love Fenix, so beautiful.

I have a 6-8 month old bearded dragon that is having diarrhea often but not always. I don’t have an exotic vet nearby to check for worms. I’m assuming it is caused by his diet since he didn’t have the problem till I started feeding him. He devours his greens but I don’t know if I’m feeding enough protein for him or maybe have the basking spot the wrong temperature. I feed dubia, bsfl, and super worms. How much should I be giving him in one day? What basking spot temperature should I aim for?

Would you recommend regular preventative worming of reptiles? I know it's often done for other animals with high rate of parasite infection (including the goats that safeguard is labeled for, i use it regularly aha). I know often they get the worms from crickets, so is it worth it if they're mostly fed other insects?

Unrelated to the video, but do you have tips on how to get crested geckos to hunt on their own? Mine so far will only eat if I rip the bugs head off and rub the guts on his mouth. But I have a hand tremor and tong feeding him is difficult. He ignores them if I leave them in his cage and I’d prefer not to do that anyway since I know it’s unsanitary.

To answer your question, no it would not hurt your dragon. Safe guard is a very safe dewormer. Even if you accidently overdosed your dragon it would be fine. Now I'm not saying to overdose it. But even giving safe guard as a preventative is fine. I worm out my dragon once a month 3 days in a row to make sure I get all the eggs if any from any of the worms they can get from insects.

Your "everyone assumed bearded dragons had worms" reminds me of a guy who won the Nobel Prize. He was interested in stomach ulcers. Others told him, "Oh, just ignore all those bacteria on the slide, they're always there." Ha ha ha. He discovered those bacteria CAUSE stomach ulcers. This is especially important in areas where stomach ulcers are rarely treated (no health care) as they turn out to slide into stomach cancer. Never ignore the obvious! P.S. I don't have a dragon, never expect to have one, but I love experts and esp. animal experts. Thanks for this channel. Retired librarian
