I was a security guard in a tourist camp during winter. Alone 5 km from the nearest settlement in the woods. It was night. The animal started making her noises, "iiiiii,iiiiii" and i started shouting, "Who is there" 3x times. I thought someone was messing with me. Then i heard a sound, almost barking sound. I knew then that they were animals. I walked fast to the security house, i was worried again because i had never heard that sounds it wasn't pleasant. 😂 Then i saw them a couple of days later in the woods. A hind "iiiiiii" and a deer " barking sound." I have been living in the city my whole life and never heard that sounds. Stupid me, city boy.😊

Human beings are the only fauna that has vocal chords. But birds can get around that by manipulating air through their trachea aka windpipe. Some birds are better at making vocalizations than others. The Lyrebird is especially adept at this. Another bird that's on par with the lyrebird is the Congo African Grey Parrot. They are excellent at imitating electronic sounds such as a car alarm going off, a microwave oven beeping, a phone ringing. But they are also capable of developing a vocabulary of hundreds of words that they hear humans saying. And they even imitate the nuances in the person's voice to the point where you can't tell if it's the bird or the human speaking.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I live in a swampy area in Florida, and in 2017, we were hunkering down at my house while hurricane Irma passed over us. In the thick of the storm, I heard what sounded like a cat crying out. Thinking one of my cats had gotten out during the storm, I went outside in the thick of the eye wall and followed the sound until I came across a frog being swallowed up by a water moccasin. I felt bad for the frog, but I wasn't about to extract a frog from the mouth of a water moccasin during the middle of a hurricane, so I hightailed it back inside.
