When this came out,I had to take my best friend EVER in to the vet to have him put down. An almost 12 year old Boreboel mastiff. I've never owned a dog like him. The pure joy the boy had just to hop up on the couch and slam into me AND actually watch TV with me at night. And every time he'd see any kind of animal it was off the couch and bark at whatever he'd seen, repeat the process of hopping back up again. A hundred twenty five pounds of love. Being the runt of the litter he was technically on the smaller size. And you had to be very mindful of his assessment of people, he knew the sketchy ones before I did. I'm still lost without him. I've had 3 Labs before, for hunting, but bcuz of my back couldn't do that anymore. Loved them all, but THIS guy was truly special to me, constant COMPANION.

@Yvonne Smith What generalization would you make about humans? That they always love those who cared for them? I don't think you can generalize about animals. These are great examples of what can happen with your formula. The same formula may not work for all wolves, alligators, chimps or other wild animals. Dogs, of course, have been bred to be domesticated around humans. Not likely to get bad behavior. Although some dog owners have experienced a total trashing of the house in retaliation for going out for an evening. Like humans, animals can have psychological problems.

Ah man, I miss my cat that passed away last year in October. He used to greet me everyday after work, always jumped up and have me head bumps. That was a routine we did for 18 years, I really miss him everyday, when my time comes we will be reunited again. Actually, when our little boy was put down my sisters last words for him were how thankful she was that he was her first and last baby, I hope that she sees how rewarding it is even when we lose them and gives another little animal a chance in a few years. The sad thing though is how we have domesticated so many of these animals to make them now dependent upon us. Cats and dogs being the two main ones. And look at how many of them have suffered and still suffer as a result. I love animals and have pets of my own (no cats or dogs) but it is a bit sad to see how we humans just have to control everything. I can not imagine how soon it will be before most animals are gone from the wild because of our destruction and what we will have left is mostly captive "pets". I have always loved seeing animals in nature but am preferring it more and more as I get older. Not so much seeing all these captive animals that humans feel they have to form bonds with. I truly feel sorry for all those in the future that will never get to see nature that we have remaining. Animals independent from us. Our human population just keeps growing and forcing everything else around us to adapt because we can not adapt to others. That is the real mistreatment.

That's sweet. My mom & dad passed away last year and they had a little dog. I had to make the tough decision not to take her and let her go permanently to a lady that had been looking after her while my sister and I settled my parents affairs. I'm going up to Washington DC where she's living on October 1st. I can't wait to visit her. I wish I could've taken her but I'm a single person who lives alone and works full time and I would hate to leave her home all day while I'm at work. The lady that took her is retired and can be with her all the time so I thought that was better for the dog, but I do really miss her.

When I was a teenager, our beloved collie, Duke, was stolen. I lived in No. Kentucky across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Looonnng story shorter, through police sightings & our multiple searches per car over 12days, he was taken & escaped 40 miles north of Cincinnati. Each report = closer to us. One day we heard Duke at the door "talking". The reunion was full of his constant trying to tell us about his adventure....lots of hugs, knocked to the floor with lots of licks. He talked all the way thru his bath & continued when my grandparents came right over to celebrate his return. I tear up even after all these years. We will never know how he navigated his way home. It didn't matter. Our & his happiness still fills my heart! ❤

What a beautiful video! It makes me think of a wonderful dog that my family used to have, named Sugar. It wasn't that I didn't see her for a year, but back in 1992 I was at the Mayo Clinic for over a month and had to have brain surgery done because of my Epileptic seizures (the surgery was just partially successful but it kept me from having a stroke) But the day I finally got home, I walked into the kitchen and Sugar was laying in the familyroom. There's a docu of a Swedish MD who left money opportunities at home to be a road doctor in rural Africa. They showed one young patient he saved greet him with very rituals as some of the horses and elephants etc. He would comment that this was not a one-off and it was what made the choice worthwhile. It's evident to me that humans have similar basic affection patterns, we do however live in very complex systems of civilization. Large lions rarely exceed 400 pounds. That one is around 270. - The white bird greeting its owner after 3 months in the hospital is a cockatoo, not a cockatiel. - Same issue with the girl and her white parrot species.
