My Mom had a parrotlet that liked ice. Especially out of the icemaker. Anytime anybody wanted ice out of the freezer, the bird came flapping in for a head-landing. You couldn't even fool it by opening the door and going for the tray - the bird heard you digging in the ice and came flying for a treat.

Aww you were able to cuddle a skunk. :) It does make me miss my skunk friend though I know he is long gone now. I was 14 and had the wonderful opportunity to work at an animal farm during the summers. They had this pretty pudgy skunk named Fatso. In my break time I would go see him sometimes and he would fall asleep curled up in my lap. :) I spent breaks with lots of different animals there but Fatso was my favorite. :D - Heidi

To the person trying to get their bird to eat other foods--the way I convinced my picky lovebird to try more foods was to make a big show of eating (or pretending to eat when it came to a new pellet mix) of eating food in front of him, then offering it to him. I'm not sure why, but it always seems to make him more curious and willing to try a new food!

Great episode. The snake scared the crap out of me. You should get a hold of someone that has one of those super high speed cameras and record the snake at super slow motion. If anything, it would show your response time to the snakes snagging time.

Hey Jessi. I have a beautiful and healthy 2 y.o cat (named Gustav) that has gotten himself a lady friend. She is really pretty and looks a little hurt and malnourished. She comes every other day, eats eagerly and plays with Gustav in the living room and dinner. The first time I saw her she was getting to know Gustav on the front lawn, I heard them and scared her away afraid she was hurting him. Now she is really afraid of me and anyone in the house. She seems lovely and sweet and is slowly getting less scared of us. I named her Molly and I would really like that she stays here and be ours. I want to see gain a few pounds, get a shiny fur like Gustav and take her to the vet because her tail looks injured Can you give me any tips to make her stay? Right now I just try to be calm and careful around her, giving her space and time to trust me.

#Question , Here in Oregon the sun is a rare visitor this time of the year, and I suspect my green-cheek conure misses it dearly. Are there any solar-related health concerns I should consider such as a lack of vitamin-d? Also, does full-spectrum lighting really offer anything to our feathery friends?
@animalwondersmontana10 жыл бұрын
Winter in northern North America can be difficult for birds that are adapted to tropical regions. Full spectrum lights make a huge difference for pet birds living indoors. I would definitely consider getting a UV light for your little conure. They can then use the UV to help regulate their Vit D and Calcium. I would not give him/her supplements, just UV lighting. Thanks for thinking of how to make you friend feel her best!
@uberhobo210 жыл бұрын
AnimalWonders Montana I just got a full spectrum bulb only a week ago, and already the difference is like night and day! She has much more energy, is less cranky, and way more affectionate. Thanks for the suggestion! It's really hard to find reliable advice online, and I'm very unwilling to take chances with my bird's well-being.

I have a question. What are reasons a cat may have difficulty retracting their claws and how could you help? My cat has had difficulty retracting her claws ever since she fractured her pelvis and bumped her head from being hit by a car a few years ago. She keeps getting her claws caught in our carpet and sometimes it looks painful but I don't know how to help.

She might have brain damage. I suggest getting her checked out by a vet or even an animal neurologist asap.

That was startling at the end but soooooo much better than feeding them live prey. I now know not to do this but in college, I had a boyfriend with a snake which was fed live prey. I did not love having to buy a live mouse, drop it into the tank and wait for the inevitable, which sometimes took days. In the mean time, the poor mouse had to be kept alive and away from the snake until the snake got hungry enough to eat it. I don't love the idea of mice in my freezer but much better than a death watch.

oh god, i hate feeding snakes! like i go to an animal care school and when we have to feed the reptiles with (living!) mice i always feel so horrible because we have to wait and watch untill they actually eat the mice and i hate it. we have a bearded dragon and i had to feed him once and he killed the mouse but didn't eat it, so the teacher said i had to try and swing the mouse in front of his face so it looked like it was still alive. i felt horrible for the rest of the day. i mean, i love animals but feeding them other living animals is not my forte.
@theadventurousjb9 жыл бұрын
Normally Bearded Dragons dont eat mice, and I don't feed mine that. I also won't (when I get one) feed my snake life food, it's much better to feed frozen
@tweetoc9 жыл бұрын
theadventurousjb but like, they do... we don't give them mice very often, but sometimes we do. the one that i had to feed was very skinny and needed the extra protein or whatever. we mostly feed our reptiles live animalsin school, but why do you think it's better to feed them frozen food? i think feeding the reptiles live food would be more natural, and it would boost their hunting behavior i guess. i'm not sure what the right terms are, english is not my native language! (to be honest, personally i would actually prefer to feed them frozen food simply because i'd not feel as guilty)
@theadventurousjb9 жыл бұрын
+Mar yeah, mice for bearded dragons is a good fat builder! I prefer frozen because live instills a hunting instinct into them and mice and rats, yes, can damage the snake with they're "buck" teeth and claws
@tweetoc9 жыл бұрын
theadventurousjb but isn't that a good thing? the hunting instinct, i mean.
