Apparently, not even joking, Seth is //literally// trying to make Family Guy so bad that FOX will cut his contract. He wanted to end it after the first cancellation, but FOX wanted money and family guy was money (because back then, it was good). Seth has been trying to make it so unappealing they'd have no choice but to cut it so he can go on to work on funnier projects (some of which are actually pretty unique if you take a turn at them). FOX is so stubborn though that the refuse to pull the plug.

Gonna take a stab at re-writing some of these- are they funny? No, but at least they're not offensively un-funny... 1. The princess finds a frog, kisses it, and the frog starts screaming in confusion. Another, larger frog with a purse shows up and smacks the startled princess across the face with her purse before grabbing her son's hand and hopping away. 5. I... actually kinda liked this one. Only skit I laughed at, really. 6. The two guys in the bar assume the horse is named Mr. Ed, because he can talk. Which leads the horse to get angry and explain that it's offensive to assume that only one horse can talk. He then (as an example) states that the white guy probably can't dance, which prompts the guy to wheel away from the bar, revealing that he's not sitting on a stool but actually in a wheelchair. The horse starts to apologize, but then the white guy proceeds to spin and swerve around the bar to a catchy musical number. After the last note plays, the horse and guy shake and agree they both learned a lesson. 7. The show is titled "Name That Animal Dick!" and everyone assumes it's about identifying animal penises, but then it turns out it's a real-life clip show with animals being cute while doing rude things (like a cat pushing a puppy into a waterdish) and the players have to state which animal is in the wrong. 8. Wiley wants to eat the Roadrunner- this is explained in several different cartoons. So after his millionth attempt fails, he finally just calls for delivery, but- surprise! The delivery guy is the Roadrunner all along- which is why he's always in a rush. Then Wiley tries to get out of giving him a tip, and the Roadrunner ends up chasing Wiley into the sunset. 10. Large dude is at the gym, finds a bike he likes and starts to exercise. But he keeps hitting the guy next to him because his weight shifts the machine into the other guy's shin, and the guy gets slowly gets furiouser and furiouser until he snaps and stabs the first guy to death. As he's being arrested for murder, the guy starts screaming, "he was invading my personal space!" One of the cops on hand shakes his head and grimly declares it the eighth case of "Void Rage" that month. 11. King needs a wife, asks one of his knights to help him find someone to marry. A large dragon suddenly pokes her head in through a window, declaring that she used to be a beautiful princess. The king tries to kiss her, and she furiously breathes fire at him until he's nothing but ash. The knight asks why she would kill the king for helping her, and she exclaims that she loves being a dragon, and spent years studying enough magic to become one. She even adds, "Plus, even being a princess sucks in such a misogynistic era," and the knight fully agrees. 12. A unicorn is annoyed that drunk people keep getting stupid tattoos of him and his bretheren in weird places. He berates them a little, and he also gets furious when people use the term 'magical' for everything, stating: "That is OUR word! You think you can just use it whenever you think something's special?! Stop the cultural appropriation! I'm comin' after YOU, you mutant, glove-wearin' mouse!" 16. Family dog is lying on a rug, its face turned away from the camera as it sleeps. Meanwhile mom, dad, and a son (who clearly has his dad's face, hair, and eye colors) are sitting on their chairs, when the parents reveal that they have to tell the son something. "So... you're adopted." Son is confused, and goes "what?!" And mom adds, "and so is the dog." And the dog turns, revealing a human head that looks identical to the father and son's and exclaims, "are you serious?!" 21. Same title card, Quentin comes in with his katana, looks at the kid, and declares that, hmm, this should really be a 'director's cut.' Enter the director, dressed in scrubs and looking ready to perform a geniune medical procedure. Quentin leaves, adding, "We'll add the blood in post." 22. Doorman stops them both, "Sorry guys- no shoes, no service." Barney then holds up a pair with the bottoms worn through and quips that it's not the first time Fred's speeding problem has gotten them into trouble. 26. Chicken crosses road, looking around in near-paranoia, before putting on a hat and sneaking into a KFC-type restaurant and nervously ordering a combo. His wife later comes home to find him bathing himself in barbeque sauce in the bathtub, and she screams before fainting. (Bonus points if the latter scene is styled like the rose scene from 'American Beauty.') 38. The chief (on his own) sells the island to the pilgrims for some beads, then goes home and laughingly explains to the others in his village that he just sold their jerky neighbor's land to some white fools for practically nothing- WHICH IS WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED, btw. 50. ...the f*ck?! I ain't touching that one, and neither should anyone else.

According to Wikipedia, the chicken joke first showed up in an 1847 edition of The Knickerboxer, phrased thusly: There are ‘quips and quillets’ which seem actual conundrums, but yet are none. Of such is this: ‘Why does a chicken cross the street?[’] Are you ‘out of town?’ Do you ‘give it up?’ Well, then: ‘Because it wants to get on the other side!’ For those who can't read old-timey, it's supposed to be set up like a traditional joke riddle, in which the listener would be expected to think way too much about the answer, thinking it'd be some form of pun or clever answer they weren't expecting, only to get a boring statement of fact in return. The problem is that the joke has somehow transformed into the traditional first joke children learn, before they understand the basic concepts of set-up and punchlines, and so instead has been ruined by over-exposure. The suicide interpretation, while a funny example of black humor, is unfortunately just made up, as far as anyone can tell.

Everyone is saying how Mr. Enter is overreacting. 1. You didn't have to sit through this pile 2. In his reviews he has stated that he does not like gross out, and implications of morals bother him. Guess what both happen here 3. His reactions and ideas are funnier then anything Macfarlane is doing right now 4. One of the worst things TO review is a comedy that isn't funny, because you can only say "It's not funny" so many times. So shut up

I can tell you the joke in Wile E. Coyote finding religion. You didn't mention how his fellow coyote groaned in exasperation after Wile E.'s testimony. That's MacFarlane's way of telling his audience that you're better off DEAD than finding religion. ....See?... Because religion's for idiots?... It's... it's funny, right?... I got a more legitimate laugh out of your "Yabba-Dabba-Doo-Doo" than anything else in this entire show. Weren't vampires a supernatural scapegoat because people at the time didn't understand venereal diseases? Why the hell should Dracula care if he gets AIDS? Making propaganda more than heavy handed, ham fisted, pretentious crap is a very rare talent, man.
@Angela.Perkins6 жыл бұрын
Reapermaskhybrid Terrible things have been done in the name of religion, but the same is true of science. Did you know the Nazis weren't the only group to perform horrible "science experiments" on their prisoners? Do you think science is evil? I don't think it is, just the actions of the experimenters. People will use pretty much anything they can think of to try to justify cruelty, including religion, politics, science, patriotism, education, money, tradition, loyalty, and even love. I don't believe that makes any of those things evil in and of themselves, just the actions of corrupted people.

I have been able to take Seth bashing my political stance and religion, but these shorts illustrated his main problem with these topics. Instead of trying to intelligently and comedically explain his stance, he only shows strawmen. He relies on lazy and uninspired humor and should put all of his time into writing good jokes instead of trying to prove how stupid anyone who disagrees with him is.

@troin39258 жыл бұрын
crbgamer Actually, I found out in a video criticizing this review (said video has both good criticisms, while at the same time is very flawed), that the joke is supposed to be a reference to a meme which started with the film Ed Wood, in which Sarah Jessica Parker's character asked if she would look like a horse, then there was a blog involving a horse with her name, then it became a meme. Though, even if Mr. Enter had context for the joke, he would point out that it dates the short.

Ugh for whatever reason, KZbin suggested the Cavalcade of Comedy video to me and I got so sick of seeing it being suggested that I just said "fuck it" and watched it. God it really shows how hit-or-miss (mostly miss) MacFarlane's sense of humor is. I don't think Seth MacFarlane can easily differentiate between what *he* thinks is funny and what *society* would find funny. Shock/gross-out humor is really hard to make funny, and the fact something is gross or obscene does not make it funny. Also making the audience cringe does *NOT* equal funny. Maybe to the *sadistic* creator (who is probably the only person laughing) would find their cringe-worthy material funny. If an audience cannot relate to a certain or specific scenario, then there is no joke to make. It would be as effective as making first-world-problem jokes in a third-world country. 1. Yeah, that one didn't work. 2. You want a good example of a Scottish character that doesn't make fun of Scottish accents? Try Chibs from Sons of Anarchy (I can't really think of a cartoon example off the top of my head). Chibs has a lot of quirks that stem from his Scottish heritage, and they don't constantly seem malicious or annoying like this short. 3. Umm...okay then? 4. Haha, an unfunny cat video. That's a good point, actually. 5. I agree that it would've been funnier if we hadn't seen the mountain climber. 6. I think the horse thing was meant to make fun of the fact that Sarah Jessica Parker has kind of a narrow face. Personally, I think she looks nice. I didn't find this one funny. 7. I'm glad you censored it. I'm sure I would've been even more sick than I already was from the people's descriptions of the...umm...animal parts. I agree it could've been funny, but it wasn't. 8. Utterly pointless. 9. As a Star Trek fan, I am disturbed and annoyed at the laziness of this joke. Robot Chicken did a Star Trek short about Data having a sex drive, and it was hilarious (Data's my favorite character, by the way). You can't just say, "Oh look, sex!" and expect people to just find it funny. You have to build around the idea of sex somehow. The reason the Robot Chicken idea worked is because there was some skepticism over whether or not Data could actually enjoy sex since he is an android. There was clever humor and dialogue in it (not to mention that Brent Spiner, the actor who played Data, was in it, which I love, both because it makes it funnier and because he's my favorite actor in the world. ^.^). 10. Body-shaming. Bullying an entire group of people because it's easy. Enough said. 11. I agree. Gay is not a personality. This short is stupid. 12. I don't get it. Maybe it could've worked? Maybe? 13. Incredibly lazy and insulting to a cartoon that inspired a bunch of other cartoons. Also, gross. I can tolerate gross-out humor if it's done well, but this is not done well by any stretch of the imagination. 14. Sounds stupid. 15. This could've worked. 16. Seems rather lazy. 17. Why doesn't he like Matthew McConaughey? I noticed that Seth MacFarlane does this a lot with celebrities he doesn't like. 18. Looks racist and annoying. 19. Seems actually tolerable. 20. Another sex thing. Great. And we get a joke about domestic violence. 21. This made me sick and upset. I get that Quentin Tarantino makes violent movies, but hacking at a baby? This made me so upset and absolutely sick to my stomach. 22. Insulting and lazy. 23. Okay, Seth. We get it. You hate conservatives and think the world would be better without us. We get it. Move on to a new idea already! 24. Oh great.Let's attack conservatives some more by making them look like idiots for believing in something. You do know that some of us believe in both religion and science, right? There was an episode of Family Guy where they went to an alternate universe where Catholics didn't exist, and it was all futuristic and stuff. But Seth doesn't seem to get that many scientists were Catholic. Take Gregor Mendel, for instance. He was a Catholic monk who studied pea plants and went on to become the father of modern genetics (or one of them, anyway). So people that believe in God can also believe in science. The ideas can coexist. Even Einstein acknowledged that religion and science can go together. 25. Maybe tolerable. 26. Wow. Just wow. Lazy and annoying. 27. Even more sex. This can be done right, like I said before, but this is just repetitive, annoying garbage! 28. Umm...okay? Not that funny. 29. Annoying. 30. COWS. XD 31. Scottish accent again? 32. ...Not very good. Just not funny. Using an obscenity is not enough to make something funny. 33. Okay then... 34. More body-shaming. :( 35. Seth just takes every opportunity to offend Christians, doesn't he? He does this with other religions, too. 36. Lazy and pointless. 37. Disgusting. 38. Sounds bad. 39. Lazy. 40. More religious jokes. I'll admit this one isn't as bad as the other one, but it's just not that well developed and it's built on a factual hole. 41. Sounds boring. 42. Sounds like a waste of time. 43. Yeah. Sounds stupid. 44. It could've worked if it had more effort put into it. You know, talking about things that not a lot of people comment on, but that once they heard it, they'd be like, "Oh yeah! That's true!" I agree that Seth can be preachy, and this is no exception. 45. Sounds like a waste of time. 46. Sounds stupid. 47. Also sounds stupid. 48. Makes no sense. And Marie Antoinette never actually said, "Let them eat cake." 49. Seems like a waste of time. 50. Animal cruelty. This one made me sad and utterly disgusted. Reminds of "Ren Seeks Help."

Seth MacFarlane has been known for making some incredible masterpieces. Back when censors were holding him back, creative writing wasn't a big deal to him at the start. When he was first attacked for offensive material, it wasn't intentional. When Family Guy has been cancelled at first, he didn't intend to get cancelled. But it happened and they eventually made it back to TV. And it's become apparent in later season of FG that he is intentionally trying to be vulgar and offensive specifically for that reason. He can;t be cancelled. He's not trying anymore. He knows the show is on the edge of death yet he is forced to create more shit. At this point, Seth is trying to get his animations off of TV and he is trying to shove his ideologies down our throats with no comedy attached. I say we give him mercy and just end Family Guy and never sponsor a web series by him ever again. He's had his fun with animation. At this point, I think singing is his only remaining talent as of now.

I think my 9-year-old niece is too mature to find Seth Macfarlane's humor funny. Hell, kids her age could probably write smarter, better humor than this! And people wonder why adults are watching shows mainly targeted at kids. Hell, shows like Steven Universe, We Bare Bears, and Friendship is Magic treat their audience with more respect for their intelligence than anything created by Seth Macfarlane does!
@ChainsawGenie8 жыл бұрын
If the studios and networks **truly** want to appeal to an adult audience, they should remember that they were kids once, themselves - different series were available, of course, but each one, for all their faults and foibles, featured more creativity than many (realitvely) modern examples. (How many damsels in distress are able to rescue themselves, these days?) Outshining series such as Batman: TAS, Justice League, Daria and Downtown wouldn't be easy (nothing worth doing **is**) but any flowers and trees in the media wasteland would be enjoyable. (Even a mature/ecchi female genie series would be welcome, IMO) Until this new project (or a 'spiritual sequel/successor' to Who Framed Roger Rabbit) appears, there are many examples of enjoyable animation available to tide us over. The sooner that the bar is raised (further) on what the animated medium is capable of, the sooner we can reward ourselves for tolerating/navigating the horrors that (continue to) plague us. Here's to a hopefully better future.
@ChainsawGenie8 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're still enjoying it, Sharkcaster, but, at the same time, I hope you'll understand why its detractors would disagree. ^_^ Think of it this way - I will admit that Family Guy started out as a mildly enjoyable series with amusing (if not shocking/controversial) references/gags but, over time, Seth and his team lost their way, slowly flushing the series down the toilet. -_-U The overall **idea** has merit (as does the concept behind *Drawn Together*) but it needs to done well in order to remain entertaining (or, in Family Guy's case, begin to redeem itself). Among other things, I'd like to see an end to the Meg bashing (and any Hayley bashing still occurring on Unamerican Dud) but that carrot has been waved around so many times, I somehow doubt that anyone would bother grabbing for it. -_- The sooner Seth's 'video shames' end, the better.

Dressing like an eight year old as an adult while playing the role of a retarded infant in all of your movies isn’t funny. His comedy is “I’m an adult male who can’t wipe his own ass or cook or clean or work a steady job because I’m a fucking bum simpleton; please laugh at me anyway so I can fund the production company churning out these massive straight to DVD turds”. Dude is pushing his mid 50s and the best character he can give you is Stifler from the American Pie movies with an aggressive case of CTE

The one with Quentin Tarantino isn't exactly about Taratino himself, as it is about trying to get the message across that circumcision is genital mutilation and *IS* like having Taratino (and his gore porn) slicing at the genitalia. But in my opinion, that one is just tasteless and it shows one of McFarlane's "woke" politics.
@Ergeniz6 жыл бұрын
Yes. One of the things about McFarlane is that I agree with many of his views (Religion is nonsense, circumcision is genital mutilation and so on) but his way of conveying these points is tasteless, lame and simply not funny. He would achieve much more if he simply outright and directly insulted the groups he is trying to make a point about since his humor falls flat.
@KnakuanaRka6 жыл бұрын
Tech Romancer I second that. Especially his mocking of religion and conservatives. Haven’t seen “Not All Dogs Go To Heaven” before, but as a strong atheist, Im pretty sure it would be absolutely painful.

I don't think there is a point to it at all. It's just "Violence! Blood! A child screaming in pain! These things aren't funny but let's pretend it is!" Honestly, you guys are giving Seth too much credit. To pretend there is any deeper meaning in basically anything he does is ridiculous. He should actually STOP trying to offend people and go write for a kids show. He wrote for Johnny Bravo and that show was great. He just is not cut out for adult cartoons.
@Kairos_Akuma6 жыл бұрын
And tbh.. Circumcision can be a good thing.. For the general Health ^^" Because this part can get...messy... To say thats Mutilation is wrong. What some Peoples do to Women by cutting off their Clitoris and just flat out sew the whole thing together.. THAT is Mutilation.

The "Why did the chicken cross the road" theory of the joke actually being about suicide is nothing but a myth. The first written use of the word was in 1847; "There are ‘quips and quillets’ which seem actual conundrums, but yet are none. Of such is this:‘Why does a chicken cross the street?’ Are you ‘out of town?’ Do you ‘give it up?’ Well, then: ‘Because it wants to get on the other side!’" Based on that context, and suicide not being an easy option during that time due to automotives not existing, we can conclude that the suicide meaning is nothing more than a myth.
