The (mostly) non Disney animated moments that made me cry.
...and sorta ruined my childhood innocence, in some cases.

That Kangaroo's rasping and weak voice just makes the song even more emotional. It better conveys the pain and abuse these animals are going through.

An American tail: Even the trailer is depressing. Song of the birds: It's so sad, even the killer probably regrets what he did. A circus is a prison: Has this song been used to stop animal cruelty. Oliver in company: I am effected by this a lot because I love kittens so freaked much, that I'd despise seeing something like this happen.

Absolutely right, the circus is cruelty, and I refuse to listen to the birds singing, because that song just always gets me.

My sister and I found a little black kitten and she was so small we had to bottle feed her, and we raised her for about 4 months, Her name was Athena. And one day I came home from school. No more Athena. I never cried so hard in my life.

Oliver and Company made me want to visit NYC. Thanks for bringing in all the older movies though; I've never seen this movie from the 30s with the birds. What's also interesting is to see the very first animations and how their motions were meant to represent a certain feeling obvious enough for children to understand it. I do have to admit that at the part when the birds started singing I was closer to laughing than sadness, guess I'm used to more... subtle expressions of sorrow.

Harvey Toons (the same people that bring you Baby Huey, and Casper) did a similar short of Song of the birds, only with Little Aubrey and her penchant for shooting things, including her caretaker! Then if that wasn't bad enough, they gave the little bird a funeral, they even put it in the ground! But the bird regained consciousness and everything was alright...'cept the nightmares I had the night after I saw that...

The circus clip was so sad. It made me think of a song my parents told me about a circus clown. It talked about a clown's grief over his baby son's death of tuberculosis during the traveling. Yet , he has to paint on his makeup and go make people laugh while he's heartbroken over his baby.

Same here. I may eat meat, but it's all about the attitude and how you feel if you ever had to kill. I disagree with hunting for fun, but if one should have to kill for survival, it shouldn't be a happy thing. I refuse to treat an animal or human life as a game. If it must be done, I hope it is done as quickly and painlessly as possible.

1- May be sad, but I still love it so much. At least it had a few uplifting moments in between. 2- I remember seeing the Little Audry version of that. It was just as sad. :'( 3. Never seen that, but it's a bit too melodramatic for me to cry about it. 4- Makes me want to scoop him up and take him home with me.

The worst part about the opening scene in Oliver and Company...is that if he had fallen in that storm drain, he would have died horribly. I realized this the second time i watched it.

When I was younger, I hated An American Tail. It was just so sad, but I didn't understand the movie and what it was about. All I knew is that it was pretty darn depressing. Now that I'm older, I consider that movie a classic. :)

Ugh... I remember seeing Song of the Birds and I remember bawling my eyes out. (It made me tear up just thinking about it again, dammit...) It also reminded me of a slideshow I saw of a swallow going up to his dead mate after she had been hit by a car; chirping sadly, trying to feed her and huddling up to her... Anyone who says that animals don't have emotions is an asshole and an idiot.
