you have helped me a TON with this and your other videos, I was about to stop using OpenToonz because I didn't understand it, and everyone have crappy tutorials that was made 2 years ago! But then i found you and you helped me understand it much better with your high quality videos and your nice voice, so thank you!

Hi Zimox. That's really kind of you to say. I'm glad you've been enjoying the videos. If you've any thoughts or requests for tutorials, just drop me a comment and I'll see what I can do. And while we're on a stick figure video, don't forget I've got another stick figure collaboration I've just started if you'd fancy joining us ☺️

I planned to do it frame frame for your collaboration, but will try what you showed - vector stickman. Good tutorial.

Just see how it goes. This technique won't suit everyone, but give it a go and see if you can work with it. It certainly works for me. But I can't wait to see your anim buddy

this is much more straight forward than anything i seen on youtube or tried to cook up myself and im a power user. goddamn Darren, if you took drawing more seriously you could totally make a career out of it. and here i was using frame by frame on raster levels with "stick humans" goddamn. this is incredible. thank you for all the effort you put into figuring out this amazing tool and breaking it down so concisely. Let's show people the power of Toonz, together!

Thanks buddy. I'm having a go at taking drawing seriously, but for me, in honesty, it's a 2 year+ project. For now, I'm just enjoying myself learning animation, this software and sharing the word about OpenToonz.

3:58 it always. Says „the current tool cannot be used on a Toonz level what should I do?

The Control Point Editor can only be used on a vector level. Mm guessing you're trying to use it on a Toonz Raster level. You can't do that.

Is there a way to stick two items together like the pupil and iris? Because it just seems annoying to move them both separately... Im trying not to use bones since they are very hard to do.
@DarrenTAnims
@DarrenTAnims 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you draw them on separate columns, you can connect the columns in the stage schematic, then when you move one, you move the other. Alternatively, draw them on the same level.

which tool do we use to select the drawing and adjust it (bend, stretch, rotate, size it)??? 1:52

I use the Selection tool. The button with the arrow at the top of the toolbar.

If you mean the creating of a new level, you'll see that I just clicked the new level button at the top left of the timeline. You might find it useful to check out my getting started guide. This might answer some of your questions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpXPoqqIg56Yma8

@@DarrenTAnimsThanks for answering. What I meant was selection the spine of the stickman and bending it. But I viewed '4 step auto-inbetween' and I'm guessing you used 'controle-point-editor'. Is that correct? If so,... I get a notice 'this current tool cannot be used on a Toonz level' What to do?
@DarrenTAnims
@DarrenTAnims Жыл бұрын
@@wisdomteller oh, I see. I used the selection tool. You can see it selected at the top left of the screen. After you've chosen the selection tool, choose the selection type from the options bar. I tend to use either the rectangle or freehand option. FYI, the control point editor can only be used on vector levels.

why you use raster or toonz raster level in every rough sketch. why don't you use vector level for both rough sketch as well as final sketch
@DarrenTAnims
@DarrenTAnims 3 жыл бұрын
I find that the raster levels are more fluid for sketching. And the Toonz Raster level has the features of vector in changing colours after drawing. And the raster brushes, especially the pencil ones look and feel so nice to draw with

Do we need drawing tablet
@DarrenTAnims
@DarrenTAnims 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. I know a guy that draws and animates really well (in vector levels) using a mouse. But if you want the drawing experience, a tablet will be more useful.

how do you change the thickness of the line?
@DarrenTAnims
@DarrenTAnims 5 жыл бұрын
You can either set the thickness before you draw it (on the toolbar) or for vector lines you can change them afterwards by selecting the lines (using the select tool) and then change th size either typing a new size in the thickness box on the toolbar (far right) or by clicking and dragging on the thickness icon at the bottom right of the selection box.

It's just 1 suggestion of how you *could* animate the stick figure. There's plenty of other ways.
