I used to do cel art, 30 years ago. My friends didn't understand it. And finally it is getting some love. Nice piece, and I dig the music!

That takes a tremendous amount of patience and talent! Awesome! I was really into drawing cartoons as a kid and teen. This video makes me want to head out to an art supply store, stock up and create all over again. ☺

I don’t see how. Flash seems to be the same thing but on a computer and is less expensive for large projects.
@Kong20012

@cinnamon sparkles technically it is the same concept. you work with layers in the same way you do with animation cels. The only difference is that it is on a computer rather than handmade. Maybe what you are thinking of is the technique where you have individual parts of a character you move around but last I have checked flash isn't like that. You have to draw each layer on your own but it is just more efficient and cost effective and looks different( I wouldn't say better) because you have a wider color pallet on a computer. Also with the ease of computer animation and how cost efficient it is there is always going to be a low quality animation here and there but professional studios still churn out really good stuff. take for example the invader zim movie which I am pretty sure was animated in flash. It looks exactly like the cartoon series except with more vibrant colors.
@Kong20012

@cinnamon sparkles That is puppet animation. In flash you draw stuff on individual layers like on an animation cell and then animate each layer as you would a traditional cel animation. supposedly you could move things around on each layer to create that effect but it is really inefficient since you would require a lot of layers for that so traditional cel on flash is prefered. here is an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJSlqHd-rcSies0

@@Kong20012 I love newer ways of animation, but there's a charm to older animation that computers just can't replicate, like human errors and the limitations of cel animation. It's a shame its rarely done now because of time and money.

@@mint6237 Once again. Watch the video I sent. Cel animation on a computer is literally the most common form of animation.

This is brilliant. I want to try it. It is great how the shading looks. I had many doubts about how the different tones were applied for each color, but I see that there's no trick, simply patience and solid paint work. Would you try to do a Dragon Ball one? That'd be awesome. Great job👍🏾

any kind of clear, non-porous surface will do fine, though - professionals prefer cel acetate because they flatten more easily in the photography process

Paint supplies he used (Based off of findings and other videos): Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints (Based off of the look of the paint palette) Lyra Art pencil's. Duralar's watermedia acetate sheets. Sumlink 60 Kuntako ink (Wherever that may be) EDIT: IT'S SUMI INK NOT SUMLINK Fountain pen A4 Paper *Note: this may be wrong, or the supplies may not exist because this is what I saw from the video. So sorry if I get some things wrong.*

Oh and based off of experience NEVER USE LIQUITEX. I've used it before and some of the colors aren't as easily applied and or as opaque as others. Apple Barrel or Craft Smart(All purpose) will work just as well. I don't know about golden though.

This is great! Now I have a question. If you wanted to make a Simpson's episode using cell animation, how long would it take? You would need to keep drawing very similar pictures again and again, just with minor changes to give the appearance of movement? Surely that would just take months and month? 24 cells per second?
@Gloominous
@Gloominous 3 жыл бұрын
The Simpsons was made this way, they only stopped using traditional cel animation in season 15 (2004). Now it uses digital ink and paint which is similar, just on a computer. Last I read it takes 6-9 months to make one 24 minute episode

Well, I don't know whether it is too late to tell you this but I think that Craft Smart All Purpose Acrylic's are the best. And in the amazon description, animation is one of it's purposes. I used it today and it works EXCELLENTLY! It painted on really nice and opaque. Here's the link 👉👉 www.amazon.com/dp/B079Q8DZC4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_M6FEFbQPTV6G6

Any art, or office supply store sells them. But there IS a difference in the sheets. To learn how to do a cel, the office 5ype transparency sheets work great. The really GOOD stuff, is only at art stores. (It's "wet", and you have to use gloves, and even then, you really don't want to touch it.)
