Thank you ! I have definitely noticed the same thing - when students come looking for internships, fresh out of college, and I see that their reels are all just college projects, and when I ask them about personal projects, they say they haven't done any. It's really common and it's sad. It's the best way to improve really quickly and also just to keep that passion for animation burning. That's why I stress it so much in my videos. What did you mean by you take them as reference not copy them in bonus tip?

I mean don't go and try use the same music track they use or try to replicate the shots they have in their reel. Just try to take note of the pacing and what ratio of acting to action shots they have, the types of shots theyre using, how they present things, like if its a modelling reel and they show the model as a wireframe and untextured and then the textured and lit version - that kind of thing

Hi, I have a question. So I've sent you my demo reel and you may had noticed that it has 0 (ZERO) Photoshop and Cinema 4D and any 3D in it. So, as I am looking for a job I've started brushing up on my (long forgotten) Photoshop skills. Then I realized that I have 0 idea what to focus on. So, as I am sacrificing my time to the Gods of employment and spamming companies with lies of my infinite knowledge of Photoshop... What do I need to focus on in Photoshop? What are the topics I need to invest the next 200 hours in (for Motion Graphics)?

Well, that's pretty broad, it would be less a case of what to learn in the specific software and more about general design principles. Typography, layering properly for animation, how to use different textures and effects I guess. I would suggest learning Illustrator actually, because it's vector-based, so when it comes into After Effects, it's more flexible and you don't have to worry about the pixelation you get with rasterized layers like with photoshop. But Photoshop is nice to use if your motion graphics will have a lot of texture, gradients, shadows, that type of thing. So maybe learn how to use those well in Photoshop if you're wanting to brush up on your Photoshop skills

Yeah, more studios are starting to hire people who specialize, although it may be hard to find constant work as a character animator only... its good to have a working knowledge of a few other areas too.
