Animators TAKE ON Disney, Netflix, and Cartoon Network For A New Deal

Animators who make hit shows for Netflix, Disney and Cartoon Network are taking on the Hollywood giants. Workers on animated content are paid far less than on live action films for no good reason. Now the Animation Guild is calling for a New Deal for animation workers.

I believe there's a scene in Dumbo that is a middle finger to the striking animation workers at the time basically comparing them to clowns that don't deserve more pay. Not sure if I'm correct, but that's what I'd heard.

Saw this coming since I graduated in animation in 2007. Never got into the industry because pretty much all these places were A) really far, but more importantly B) they want you to work for free, pay shit, etc etc. Best of luck to all of them.

This hurts me on a personal level As I am a student hoping to take college for 2'd animation and animation work. It angers me to see all the hard working makers of aniamtion hurt by larger companys and strong cemented big groups like hollywood or others that make small people and animators fall to them and work for them than making what they love with unequal pay and work standards at many places it is disgusting and horrible we are returning ti standards of 18th century workers than being a modern society. Stay strong and united freinds! They will no longer make us fear or rethink to have a voice and our rights if we stand together than alone! For the unions make us strong and the people!

Yes!!! Long time viewer and proud to finally have my union featured! I was at that rally and the solidarity has been amazing. Many roles within the industry are facing job creep, where studios try to consolidate more and more jobs onto one person for less pay. Positions like color designers, who paint the characters and are majority women, get paid less than other male dominated roles. They have us working under tighter and tighter schedules with no room to take breaks lest you miss a deadline When the pandemic hit, the animation industry did not stop for a heart beat. We immediately transitioned to work from home to maintain these squeezed schedules and not only kept our side of entertainment afloat, but live action as well. We want a new deal!

I was really into cgi as a kid. A lot of work goes into animation. Executives stealing from the ppl who bring us so many great works that we enjoy and love. You all deserve so much more, given how much you create.

animation is art produced by artists and has always been one of my favorite forms of entertainment. i recall watching a documentary about the incredibly talented artists of looney tunes who were paid little for producing a behemoth amount of work. #InSolidarity !!! 🧀•

Wow, you were already a year ahead of the whole 2023 Hollywood strike! Good for you. With the Writers Guild of America striking on 1 May 2023, the Across the Spider-Verse animators revealing how they were mistreated on 23 June 2023 while delaying Beyond the Spider-Verse by two years, and the Screen Actors Guild of America striking on 14 July 2023, we are all in the same ⛵. Never stop fighting the good fight, until AMPTP gives all three of you groups everything you want in your new deals. Beyond the Spider-Verse only has to do two things for me to like it more than Across the Spider-Verse: Don't rush the animators again or overwork them for the more complicated stuff, and don't murder Miles Morales for the sake of maintaining so-called "canon events!" It is not rocket science!

Do not boycott animation. More views and numbers for us bolsters our power against the companies. If they see that we're incredibly popular, then we're like "Hey, pay us more or we walk" they're put in a tough spot. If they see that people aren't watching animation and we say "pay us more" they'll be like "lol we don't care."

I make 6figure salaries working as an animator in the videogame industry. There is plenty of money to be made in animation, but you have to be willing to relocate where the good jobs are and to always have your portfolio ready to jump ship if you find a better offer.

Not exactly, plus they get paid to redo every design for each character, backgrounds, movement, story boards, etc. There’s a lot that goes into it. Disney makes a lot of money off their animators/other contractors so they should be able to pay them.

Treating people of different identities equally has what to do with the pay rate of animation vs live action exactly? Some of these demands are just fucking dumb. Flying a crew to France to film a scene is gonna cost way more than drawing a French background. So no animated shows shouldn't get paid equally as much as live action shows.

Hasn’t there been cases of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry in companies such as Blizzard (it’s a gaming company, but it’s got animators and story-writers)? I may be incorrect on this, but it seems that there is quite a bit harassment that goes in those respective workplaces as well as sexism.

Bro they have to design everything from scratch. It’s not easy. If it was everyone would do it. Not only do they make everything custom, but they also make it move. Designing takes more work then just taking a video. You don’t understand animation and it shows.

@@bloodyn0se724 costumes are made from scratch... sets are also made from scratch... the light setup is made from scratch... I bet its easier to light something in a computer than set up an intricate light design... you gotta pay the actor more... not to mention if there's stunts... cuz now you gotta pay the stunt crew... over all live action costs more so
