Not to be an actually they refer to Africa as the Dark Continent because it wasn't explored or not it was known about it.
@BENergizer14 жыл бұрын
It's still a definition that white people put on a continent that was well explored and known by the people who lived there. Even if you put the implications that "dark" having negative connotations connecting to the skin tone of its native population aside, it's still racist to say that a continent is "dark", unexplored and unknown if your immediate reaction to arriving there is to dismiss the natives as ignorant savages and belittle, conquer and enslave them.
@badman30004 жыл бұрын
@@BENergizer1 I am not saying that it wasn't kind of racist. I'm just saying that that's not the reason why they called it that. I think it had mostly two meanings the one that you gave and the fact that it was mostly unexplored. They didn't even have maps of the interior of Africa at the time.
@beagleboygaming17014 жыл бұрын
ok good i was about to reply that
@envythejelly60344 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's also notable that Dark Africa actually changed in what it referred to over time, but intriguingly never included the primarily Muslim North, as that area was well known. In fact by the time of the scramble, it basically just referred to the regions between the northern border of modern day South Africa~Zimbabwe, up to the bottom of the Sahara, excluding the coasts, Kenya and the horn. It's the bits that were at the time, heavily dangerous to get around wildlife wise, and had not been mapped thusly. The Dark Continent was also used for South America early on (as in, 15~1700s) too for similar reasons. Tl;Dr - not "dark because they're black" or "dark because they're backwards" but rather "dark because we fill this in black on a map"
@rebornkusabi72644 жыл бұрын
Eeeeehhh it's both, don't be so disingenuous. It was called that until it was explored and then it was called that because it's full of people with darker skin than those lily-white Europeans. Next you're gonna say THAT derogatory word used for black people just means ignorant people next.

This toy line and its setting had some potential. Would be interesting to see what could have been done. Like with Exo-Force. That one should have gotten a tv show. In the case of Animax, have there be more bridges (and of course InCARnated boats), change the human costumes, do a little non-specific world home repair, throw in something about ancient energy shields that lessen the sun's fury to survivable levels for most of the light side. This could work with some changes if you're willing to look past the abominations against god and science they drive.

This is in response to Linkara’s confusion about Africa being called the “Dark Continent.” While it *seems* to have racist connotations, in actuality it’s a lot tamer then it seems! Africa was called The Dark Continent because of its massive size. Africa is the second largest continent in the world, and back then exploring it was as challenging as Rob Liefeld drawing feet! As such much of their early knowledge about Africa was unknown and “in the dark”, Hence the name. I hope that clears it up for ya my man, Keep up the good work!

Sure it looks that way, but it’s not how it works. If the earth somehow actually stopped rotating (and we didn’t all die in the process cause loosing about 1000MPH In momentum is going to cause a lot of problems), then we would still have day and night, it would just take roughly an entire year from one sunrise to the next, and it rise in the west and set in the East. "Hey let's talk about what we're gonna do before we do it and then do it!" Ever since I was a little kid watching an episode of Space Ghost, when he talks about using his Ice Ray right before using his Ice Ray for no discernable reason, it always bothers me when a comic or show does that. I don't mean things like Goku shouting Kamehameha or Sailor Moon yelling Moon Princess Halation. I mean things like in the second issue of the original X-Men series from the sixties when Jean is training in the Danger Room by levitating a huge heavy ball above herself (because safety is for squares, I guess). She loses focus and the ball starts dropping towards her. Cyclops practically gives a soliloquy on how he's going to save her (which she responds to while still in danger so there's no way this is happening at the same time) before opening his visor. Like, in the time it took him to say all that, Jean should already be a red stain on the floor (again safety being very much for squares).

I have a copy of this somewhere, bought for a long train journey. I do not remember it, or the journey. All I remember is the intensely dull meeting with someone else and their lawyer to discuss how they are allowed to use use my art because it was online, and that makes it public domain. I got paid, they got dropped as a client by their lawyer, they stopped using stolen art, life was good.

7:37 “After I explained this to him he just started screaming and hasn’t stopped for like 3 hours now.” And considering he hasn’t reappeared at the time of this comment, I can only assume he’s *STILL* screaming.

I'm sad Animax did not survive if only because it means more people will never be able to return to the glorious city of Peoplopolis

If it's any consolation I've written some Animax fanfiction.

I like to imagine Brute Force takes place in the Transformers continuity. Marvel cancelled Transformers due to low sales then had its writer Simon Furman write Brute Force? I would have preferred no Brute Force and a few more issues of Transformers, which we got anyway with Generation 2. But still. Brute Force didn't need to exist. Transformers didn't need to be cancelled.

Similar premise to Attack Pack, which was also about a bunch of animal/vehicle hybrids. Although, to the best of my knowledge, it wasn't set on an Earth that has stopped rotating. Also, I can't decide which is the more absurd name: ReinCARnation, or Peoplopolis.

Whoa, never heard of these. They're so obscure, Toy Galaxy has never even mentioned them.
