I saw a Silent Voice for the one day it was playing. Went through a Blizzard to see it! Was totally worth it a great movie and I was so glad they had a deaf VA play Her. It made it so much more emotional! My friend and I cried during the movie ! It was a roller coaster of emotions.

A best for last Fate UBW was a phenomenal dub for the ufotable anime adaptation of the visual novels imo and Code Geass was one of my first ever Adult anime ! Also, Persona 4 the Anime was great in terms of the dub

A shout out Dragoon Ball Z (The toonami run simply put people on to anime) Yu Yu Hakusho ( Yuske, Kuwabara, Hiei, and Kurama alone were great) Rurouni Kenshin (top to this day I can still watch it and enjoy especially Saito and Shisiou Kenshin and Sanoske was great as well. Just to name a few!

Kenshin is a strange one because it had more than one dub. Pretty sure the Media Blasters one is better and actually had all the names right. My favorite actor from that is Richard Cansino, that it is.

Yu Yu Hakusho has my favorite English dub ever, elevating it from good to fantastic imo. Great list definitely top notch quality that you've brought up. Some of my favourite dubs that you didn't mention include FLCL, outlaw star, space dandy, samurai Champloo, a big chunk of the studio Ghibli dubs, soul eater, the recent escaflowne dub, black lagoon, panty and stocking with garterbelt, little witch academia, baccano, tenchi muyo (guilty pleasure) & ghost in the shell stand alone complex.

I've got issues with certain Ghibli dubs. Not all the Hollywood actors can handle post dubbing and I truly miss the older dub for Totoro.

I thought 'Soul Eater', 'FFXV' and 'Wolf Children' were good. Not to discount the Japanese but I found the performance more immersive in English, in the way tone was delivered. I'd also like to mention 'Claymore' but I found the English jarring more often then it shouldn't been in dub; but I could see the potential, none the less.

I think that one of the best dubs is baccano because: Since it takes place in america it makes more sence for them to speak english. Also there is a great combination of new and veteran voice actors.

A lot of what I watch comes down to the context of the show itself. If it's set in Japan, especially a historical period, or where that country is part of what drives the story, then yeah, it makes the most sense to watch it subbed. If it's set in Europe or America, or a fantasy world, or one where the setting really doesn't matter to the story as much as the characters do, I'll usually go for dubbed when available. Just helps with the immersion, y'know?

For me aside from the ones you mentioned; DBZ, MHA and Magi are excellent examples of great dubs that are some of my favorites. Especially Chris Sabat. But hey; it’s Chris Sabat.

I’m honestly shocked that Yu Yu Hakusho didn’t make this top 10, but I’m pretty much inclined to agree with all the reps in the list! The Funimation Dub (ANY iteration, whether that be original 90s or Kai) of DBZ, while maybe a tad more subjective, could also benefit from an honorable mention, but I’d advocate waaaay more for YYH if I had to pick 1 of the 2.

I would mention also: Madoka Magica - I did't watch it in english but I've seen SFDEBRIS's examination and the english dub there was very solid. And when it comes to games: Nier Automata's english voices are actually superior to japanese, imo, and Xenoblade Chronicles was the first game in which I actually loved the british dub.

OtakuDaiKun Funimation, and the accents include a French accent for their Jeanne and Gilles, Russian for Anastasia and Rasputin, Southern twang for their American cowboys and Mediterranean for Scipio and Hannibal.

I’m just going to say it, the argument that “most dubs have bad voice acting” is entirely inaccurate. Sure it may not be as good as the Japanese voice acting, but imo, the more accurate statement is “most dub voices don’t match the character of the lines are changed too much”. In a majority of dubs, it’s actually hard to find overall bad voice acting minus the occasional iffy deliveries

Two Dubs That I Believe Rival If Not Surpass Their Original Japanese Versions Are; Berserk The 1998 Anime and Golden Age Trilogy Of Movies, Mainly Because Of Marc Diraison's Guts, Kevin Collins' Griffith, and Carrie Keranen's Casca, I Highly Recommend It. The Second Anime Is Initial D (The FUNimation Version), Which As Of Now Has Never Been Finished In English, Which Is A Shame Because The Cast They Had For It In English Was Amazing, In Particular Was Ryosuke Who Was Voiced By J Michael Tatum. Both Are Really Well Done And I Recommend Them To Anyone Who Likes Dark Fantasy or Cars !

Do the actors from Berserk 1998 return to play those characters in the Golden Age movies? As for Initial D, I think they did a great job with the funimation dub for the most part. It's certainly better than that awful Tokyopop mess. I wish funimation would have avoided using so much slang in the dialogue, but you're right Ryousuke was excellent. Do you know if Funimation ever dubbed Extra Stage 2, Fifth Stage, and the recent Legends movies?

Yes, I Believe Almost The Entire 1998 Cast Reprised Their Roles From The TV Series, With 1 or 2 Minor Exceptions. It's One Of The Main Reasons The Movies Are As Well Received As They Have Been ! As For Initial D Unfortunately, As It Wasn't The Most Popular The Dub Ends At Fourth Stage, After The God Arm/God Foot Battles, They Did Use Some Of The Last Episode Of Fifth Stage For An April Fools Joke, A Couple Of Years Ago.

Black Lagoon has a kick ass dub and, seeing as though there is only one Japanese character in the recurring (and international) cast, it makes more sense to watch it in English. Also, do a video for horrible subs.

Have you seen the fate/kaleid liner prisma illya I thought it was really good that may just because I have a soft spot for most of Kira Vincent-Davis and Cynthia Martinez roles as kuro and illya and hearing a really funny and kind mom version of Irisviel by Maggie Flecknoe and Luviagelita by Shelly Calene-Black and Rin by Carli Mosier this 3 have some of the funniest moments in the series spying on illya and kuro at school the end of the beach episode also can I get your thoughts on the train wreck funimation called a dub for dragon maid By

Great list! I agree with most of your points... except when it comes to Fate. I’ll admit I’m a bit biased as I hold the Japanese actors in the highest regard, so I’m extra critical of their English counterparts. They have good and bad elements for me. Like I LOVED Mathew Mercer and Crispin Freeman in their roles as Kiritsugu and Kirei, and Kari Walgren is just as good if not better than Kate Higgins was in the 2006 anime. But Mela Lee... I’m sorry I’ve never liked her as Rin. I’ve liked her work in other series before, but something about her portrayal as Rin just never sat right with me. I know the dubbing industry is full of adults trying to sound younger, but I don’t feel Mela Lee pulls it off. I do think her work in [UBW] was her best Rin if it’s any consolation. For me personally, YYH beats the crap out of the original Japanese version. Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Big O and Trigun as well. There are many others but i cant really remember at this exact time. Something about the japanese subs of these versions is so dry that the English dubs really spice up and make their own in a superior fashion.
