@10100rsn2 жыл бұрын
My other post didn't seem to make it, but Atelier Pontdarc is the production company for this anime and according to their website they only have 4 employees. Could be a bad translation but it also says they do "Animation planning, production and producing" but it does not say they do the animation itself and I don't see how they could handle that with just 4 employees... They may be subcontracting the actual animation to nearby animation studios or to individuals that can work in house. Seems strange to only have 4 employees but they are literally down the street form White Fox studios and then Studio WIT and Studio KAFKA are about 20 minutes away in opposite directions and there are likely many other studios in the same area. But it could all just be about some contract dispute.

someone on a site where I watched this anime *casually whistling don't mind me I didn't say anything* was saying that it was wrong for people to be upset cause the studio were just worrying about the health of their employees. I called bullshirt on that and stated that can't possibly be true. If they cared about the health of their employees the series would be done by now. There wouldn't be anything to delay. They would be delaying another show. MAYBE the last 3 episodes would still be being worked on but we only got 1 maybe 2 episodes. Which means BEST CASE SCENARIO they are probably crunching and productivity crunch is NOT caring about the health of their employees. On top of that I doubt with the working conditions that they are getting paid properly for not working. Therefor I believe that some of these employees IF THEY DO have Covid would likely have to go work a part time gig somewhere and get other people sick instead of recovering. There is zero evidence in my opinion of this being anything at all good for their employees, of their employees being taken care of. They are (in my opinion) being over worked, stressed, and will have to come back and crunch some more. Your video only further solidifies my point unless I'm missing something. This is my understanding of Japanese norms. This production company is sounding like a black company the more and more I hear about the situation from your video, and from the evidence that is being demonstrated.

One thing I don't get about anime in 2022, why do they care about broadcasting? As I understand it, an anime does not make money from being on TV, they actually have to pay to be on TV, like an infomercial, bu then expect to make money back off of bluray sales and other merch? If that's the case, why care about being on TV at all? A decade or more ago, it would have been important, since otherwise nobody would be able to see your product, but nowadays the Internet works just as well for that. They can just release direct to Netflix or Crynchyroll, or even just to KZbin, which would be free for them AND they would get ad revenue. Why worry about missing a TV broadcast window, when people can just watch the show on KZbin when it's ready?

Just starting to get deeper into animé and I had no idea that the shows aren’t finished before they go to air! I know live action can be in post production still while the series starts but it’s crazy that studios purchase time slots to air episodes which aren’t finished yet. Seems like a big risk to take. I’m guessing that it lets the studio budget more closely depending on how much revenue the series generates? Like if the series does poorly then maybe they are forced to cut staff or other production to keep from going under the original scope of the project?
@thehollynugget3432 жыл бұрын
99,999999% of the times you get a complete season cuz they have everything planned out at how it lasts and have the minimum required budget. This might be a first or one of the few with a result like this... unfortunate. Oh forgot about 86, which required amazing animation and we had to wait half a year for 2 episodes. They were worth it, but still, the wait killed us.
@arsyadidris63492 жыл бұрын
For the most part, everything is usually pre-planned well ahead of time. Budget allocation to animate the whole series is already given. Air slots, voice actor bookings, marketing, soundtracks. Once the budget is greenlit, all these aspects start their work. And usually, there is allowance for last-minute animation and audio touch-ups (lighting, shading, FX). Coz all the animation should be completed, and THEN the voice actors and the sounds can come in, and only then can they have the confidence to air the first ep. This is also why some 24-26 eppers have a seasonal break when they reach midway: to touch up and finish off the 2nd part of the show.
@easymoney42282 жыл бұрын
@@arsyadidris6349 thank you that’s a very insightful look into how things are working behind the scenes. I wonder how similar/dissimilar this is to the American TV industry? I know networks tend to order shows in chunks, which then get aired. It looks like most animation studios tend to have a good lead time on production, so possibly if a show gets popular or doesn’t do well then they can flex/trim their budget in the second half of a season.
@arsyadidris63492 жыл бұрын
@@easymoney4228 i cant say about american tv, but i can talk about movies i guess: theres the principle filming. Where the actors do all the acting, with the all the camera crew and location setting all done. And then comes post production, where all the editing takes place. For movies, they dont film in order. That would be a logistical nightmare. So they just film all the scenes regardless of order, then its up to the editing team to piece together the puzzle. Then it get handed over to the fx dept. The movie at this point is actly complete. Now comes the marketing. So its not uncommon for a movie to be filmed a year or two in advance before being released in theatres.
@arsyadidris63492 жыл бұрын
@@easymoney4228 and if i would add about tv shows: theyre filmed by season. Thats why a majority of shows max out at 26 eps per season. Coz that means 26 weeks. They leave the other 26 weeks for filming. Say u begin filming in january-jun 2022, post production will commence july-december 2022, the show wont be aired till jan2023. And when that season 1 is airing from jan-jun 2023, the actors will be filming for season 2 during these times. And its alooot of work for the actors too, pretty much a proper day job, with OT. Coz u have 26eps x 20 min = 520min = 9 hours of filming that needs to be done. Thats alot. And thats assuming a 20min sitcom show. Star trek the next generation was pounding out 45 min episodes, so thats 17+ hours of filming. I rmmbr an interview with the actor of Data, he had to be in the studio dressing room by 5am to put on prosthetics n makeup, coz filming starts at 8am. And theyll usually film till night (its a studio, lighting is practically 24 hours). Ofcourse this was the “olden” days, before the advent of streaming. Studio shows still exist, but thanx to streaming, producers can now make a whole season, see the audience response, and if its good, theyll fund for another season, and without having to deal with airtime slots. They just sell the whole season to the streaming providers.

Coz or else… its gonna be booted to the season after, or the rest of the eps will go straight to physical (if they run out of money to purchase airing slots) And we keep talking about the animation… how much of ep8 onwards has actly been finished by this point? Coz then u have to book the voice actors, and u would need atleast the half-done animation before u call them in to provide voice.

Putting the discussion around planning aside for just a moment, it sucks a bit that one of the few companies that is trying to do things the "right" way, or at least right by the industry in some way, is getting effed like this. Most other studios outsource yes, but they outsource in other countries and fore significantly lower pay, reducing or eliminating fields in the local industry altogether. This company is trying not to cut corners and hire people locally from the industry, but now that industry is messed up so they have to actually do the "bad" thing everyone else is doing in order to deliver and local animators, etc. aren't available/won't get the jobs. What is the message or takeaway? What is more important here? Do we care how the show is made or anything goes as long as it's made? It's a tough one with no easy answer. To be clear also, I'm not saying this is absolutely the case here and we should 100% feel bad for the company, etc. Just a thought considering the industry as a whole.

Covid didn't have anything to do with the delay, it's the same excuse as when kids tell their teachers their dog ate his homework, a load of BS in other words. Ojisan is such a rushed production it makes 86's production look like it was handled by a professional committee...

i wish american companies would just keep their influence to their own culture. no more anime, no more tolkien and no more anything that has an influence thats dates back more than 400 years. enjoy the culture by all means but dont influence it

This feels like commenting on a football game on an exoplanet a few thousand light years away. I hope nothing shady is going on.

Word indefinitely is something never good to see or hear. It could be cancelled at this point when no one want to take it over.
