The thing with high budget anime movies like this is that they tend to always have a bitter ending which is disappointing

The bitter end is disapointing...but is often the best end possible that give more feelings in the anime (it is just one of my thoughts). But then silent voice or your name aren't like this but still are very good Edit: for people who want to cry, watch "i want to eat your pancreas". You know how it will finish since the start but still cry like a baby x)

I don’t mind it but I HATE it when it comes off like a cliche, or cheap, like there’s no substance to anything else so the fact that it’s a sad ending is the whole point and nothing more. It really depends and I think is only usable as a plot point if backed with a very strong story, otherwise... Nah... Black clover, attack on titan, Fullmetal alchemist, etc. There are plenty of anime aimed towards adults, it may surprise you but many Slice of Life anime are aimed at grown-ups just because they're stress-free from Japan's busybody schedules. But even beyond that, anime like; Kakushigoto, Arte, Nami yo Kiitekure, Beasters, Vinland Saga, Houseki no kuni, Violet Evergarden, and Wotakoi. That are aimed towards an older audience, all just from the past 2 years. I can't deny there's a lot of Highschool romance anime, but unfortunately that's just a cultural aspect of Japan's current population. Where many of the office workers fondest memories are from Highschool before they're graduate and work 5 to 9. But, I know as the younger generation start to fill in directing and animation roles, that aspect of anime will evolve too with exposure to the global culture of the world. It's not just simply "all anime not focusing on adults is for children" or "every romance set in highschool is for preteens". It's far more nuanced of a situation that isn't solved with insults.
