Thing is, "people die when they are killed" isn't a bad translation. It's only the first part of the statement AND removed from context. The whole line is "people die when they are killed, that's the way it should be" and comes up after Emiya has experienced several fatal attacks and managed to get back up afterwards.

Just letting you know that there are some subtle glitches in season 2 (and some that are not so subtle) that were not in the original series that you might not notice if you are not paying attention so definitely look out for those ;)

IDK, I wouldn't say SAO is good but it was good enough to keep my attention, I like the love story arcs the most simply because they are the more well-put-together pieces of the show, not great but good enough. the abridged series is much better though.

Honestly? With my experience with ppl? I thought it was realistic, because ppl really do shit as stupid as all that. And often because of things like socially awkward misunderstandings. Hindsight is 20/20, but ppl on the spot are hilariously stupid. With my pfp and name as it is, I feel the need to defend the original SAO a bit here. A lot of people call it garbage, but I don't think that's fair. SAO does a loot of cool things that are fun and engaging. I'm not claiming it's some deep masterpiece. I think it's a good show. The worst criticism I'd take seriously is that the show was "meh." Which makes sense. Although, people tend to hate on it way too much because a few youtubers got mad that their expectations didn't align with what it turned out to be. (They thought it'd be a gritty dark show with real stakes, and probably with deep psychological elements.) And it ended up just being a fun show with no more stakes than 99% of anime out there. Then because SAO was overhyped at the time, as were most anime made with mass appeal in mind, all the people that kinda didn't like it started trashing on it, then it just became fun to hate. (Another reason it's hated on is because of elitist that hate most things that are made for mass appeal that get hype instead their favorite "real art" anime that doesn't get the attention they feel it deserves.)

As a big fan, it’s a great concept that was rushed to release. Reading every book in chronological order instead of release and piecing together how Aincrad, GGO, Ordinal Scale, Alicization, and even Accelerate World fit together helps flesh out an interesting future. A government power trying to use AI for weapons, totally plausible. That AI deciding not to be a slave, absolutely understandable. Kayaba’s progression of the Nervegear, Seed, Medicuboid, and Soul Translator fall perfectly in line for what I expect of the future.

yeah I just sit back and let people talk negatively about sao because most of them don't really understand the deeper implications of the story and its components and because the franchise is so popular in japan more anime keep getting made but western anime fans have values that don't align with japanese values which culminates into a hive mind collective hate for a series that is genuinely good. Its why uzaki-chan had so much backlash, why people hate fairy tail and naruto (shippuden and filler) despite them being some of the most popular series in japan. Its why people hate on all isekai...which to an extent i agree with because alot of them are all surface level with no substance but isekai as a whole gets way too much hate. western audiences have a tendency to believe opinion as fact and as a result shows like sao are thought of as bad...the only thing bad about sao are the games it spawned because its just play through sao but your character is a kirito stand-in that isn't kirito (lookin at you hollow fragment). I've recently started the sao novels so I'm not sure how much deeper it gets but the anime always felt a tad rushed to me so i feel like the novels will be better.

This video is great, but I still don't agree with all the criticism SAO itself gets. When it first came out, tons of people liked it and then it started getting popular to rag on the show until pretty much everyone disliked it. Luckily, I never joined that discussion and I still enjoy watching it. It's not my favorite anime ever, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as others will make it out to be. It's fun, there's cool action, and I like the world its set in. I like the different characters and especially like the different games and stuff too.

There was def a time where sao had a lot of praise and then it flipped 180 I think I watched it when there was a lot of hate on the show and I think that plagued my judgment. I really didn’t think sao was that bad, but I also forget mostly everything that happened in the show so it was pretty forgettable for me.

When it first came out I saw potential in the first season even though I do think most of the criticism that this video does make on it is valid and it has just steadily gone down hill from there IMO. Season 2 was so boring in my eyes that even Something Witty is having trouble turning into something interesting for me. 3 i actually liked a little bit more.

I agree that some people definitely just rag on it to try to be cool or whatever, but honestly I think alot of it was more the excitement of the concept and what it represented followed by the ending of it leaving some bitterness in the mouth. I mean, even Reki Kawahara has started doing his own revamping through SAO: Progressive which is filling in the gaps and to make it a better experience for the Aincrad arc.

For those that haven't heard of it, SAO: Progressive is a much deeper dive into the world that Reki Kawahara started doing to expand and patch the original Aincrad arc of SAO. It VASTLY expands on the all the characters, the world, and their lives. To give some comparison for how much more content there is, the first season of SAO takes place over 2ish of the light novels (they borrow a bit from the 3rd if I recall). SAO: Progressive I think last I read was light novel 6 and they're I think on floor 6 of the game. Highly recommend it if you are a fan of SAO.

The Abridged is only funny because the original exists. Most of its humor is basically making fun of how things went in the original. Unlike the Danmachi Abridged by Yaroshien it cannot stand alone as a story cus half the jokes wouldnt work anymore.

4:46 I hate the people who deliberately twist the reality to try and make something out to be something else, it's manipulative at best and insulting at worst. He - strangely as it would seem - misses the context that at this time in the game there was a very negative bias against the 'beaters'(beta testers) as they were called, where a lot of very scared people were finding scapegoats to try and blame deaths on and saying it was because the Beta Testers were cheating rather than the truth being that it was just how things happened due to this being a simulation of how brutal real-life combat can be. Kirito wanted to be their friend and didn't want to tell them his actual level because he feared being rejected by them and being left alone again. It's stupid and annoying and I hate it.
