See you later, Eren. The final episode of Attack on Titan has finally aired and it truly feels like the end of an era. I am so glad that Linked Horizon is back again to perform the final ED theme again because the story of Attack on Titan has started in 2013 with the legendary first OP Song 「Guren no Yumiya」. And now we have come full circle with 「To You 2000…or…20000 Years From Now…」.
① “I'll wrap that scarf around you as many times as you want” 1:03
I really love the long pause in 1:03 because it perfectly mirrors the moment, where Eren (now as a bird) is wrapping the scarf on Mikasa again. I was thinking of how to express this long pause on the piano and the best method was to play a scale with added thirds. I also added an accent on the first note to give the music a more dramatic impact.
Did you know that the chorus melody in 1:10 has also the same melody as the second verse in OP2 「Jiyuu no Tsubasa」? The incredible thing is, the lyrics of 「Jiyuu no Tsubasa」also perfectly describes the final episode. It says "[…] The bird has broken out of its shell to fly […]" and it essentially mirrors the image of (bird-) Eren.
② Eren’s true freedom 1:33
The original song has a beautiful flute and oboe solo in 1:33 but instead of directly copying the melody, I transformed it into a “piano instrumental solo” by utilizing the skillset of a pianist: fast arpeggios and melodious scales. The piano is literally “soaring into the sky” with all those ornaments and movements, experiencing true freedom.
③ The “silent key” in 3:45
I tried to recreate the lingering sound in the air after the music has ended with the last chord in 3:45. Pedaling the entire section will make the piano sound too muddy. But using complete silence will make the next part feel too disconnected. Therefore, I silently pressed down the keys with my left hand so I can slowly fade out the bass notes while still retaining the lingering sound of the D major chord. I also like how the intro melody of 「Guren no Yumiya」is appearing again in 3:13. Even in the music, “History repeats itself”.
Final Words:
10 years of Attack on Titan Anime - what a long journey it was. I still vividly remember how excited I was when I watched the first episode of Attack on Titan in 2013. And how I arranged 「Guren no Yumiya」 and 「Jiyuu no Tsubasa」 in record speed. Now there are more than 13 piano arrangements on my KZbin channel dedicated to Attack on Titan which is more than any other anime series.
Attack on Titan definitely earned its place in the Anime Hall of Legends and I was so glad to be part of the fandom for the last 10 years. I also want to express my thanks to all the people who have supported me through all those years. I wouldn’t have made it that far without you.
Thank you so much for following my musical journey on KZbin.

The Anime of Attack on Titan has finally finished! Thank you so much, Isayama-sensei, WIT studio and MAPPA for this unforgettable experience! Thank you for creating this Masterpiece. I am also extremely happy that Linked Horizon is back again with a final Ending Song for the last episode! Revo's compositions are just so satisfying to play on the piano. With that said, thank you for listening to all my Attack on Titan piano arrangements!

Thank WIT studio. Back then 2 years before the anime when we were reading it, it was no more than a seinen manga side by side with Tokyo Ghoul. It doesn't even have that much fanbase due to poor art quality and monthly releases. What made the story popular is how WIT studio delivered the first season. MAPPA tried to recreate WIT's brilliance but never lived to WIT quality.

So it's over... it's actually over... Attack on Titan was one of those shows where I'd just gotten used to waiting for more, used to the feeling that it was still continuing, used to knowing that I'd still be coming back to that world to immerse myself in and experience it once more. It seemed like the natural state of things for it so still be ongoing. But it has ended. It has actually concluded. I won't be coming back to it anymore, except to re-watch it. The story has been told, the message conveyed. To say anymore would be but a reiteration of what has already been told. And yet what has been told was itself but a reiteration of something bigger that seems to be ingrained into the very core of human nature. Many things can be said about the final episode of Attack on Titan but for me it tied together the greater message of the show in a perfectly imperfect fashion. There were some utterly stunning scenes in there that beautifully portrayed how humans can find hope and meaning in the face of a reality that if viewed through anything but the colored lens of human idealism, seems to be ultimately devoid of both of those concepts. All to often people loose themselves in hopelessness because they try to view the world from a neutrally detached perspective, trying to find some kind of "objective" meaning in their existence and as a result succumb to nihilism as all they find is the cold indifference of a dead universe. Because truly, it's our own subjectivity that gives meaning to life, and life and thereby beauty to all things, no matter how scientifically dead they may appear. I do not need an objective formula to tell me that this arrangement or the story it tells are beautiful. It doesn't need a greater purpose for it to be meaningful and you can't tell me it's dead if I can feel it's heartbeat in my own chest! It doesn't matter that in a million years from now there will be no trace of it left in the universe to indicate it ever even existed. It is us that give beauty to things, it is us that give meaning to things and it is us that give life to things and nobody can take that away from us. Animenz, it's great to see you back and posting again. Sometimes, on days where my vision is clouded by the grey haze of objectivism, I find myself asking "why?". Then you post a video and all becomes clear again.

I had not been this depressed since the ending of Tokyo Ghoul Season 2. And I would argue, the Attack on Titan Anime Finale made me even more depressed than I was back then. It was a superb ending. I enjoyed it all.. but it also hurts. Armin's cry at the end.. Mikasa's "Itterasshai, Eren." After watching a behind the scenes video of the voice acting, and seeing how the voice actors deeply felt every single line they voiced, I couldn't stop crying. I love Attack on Titan as much as I hate it.

Our journey as finally ended, but what remains will never be forget. 10 years for a masterpiece, we've been through excitement, desperation, doubting about every single character's fate. From Eren, the most immature in the trio slowly turns into villain, just to save his beloved to Mikasa, the one who only cares about Eren, decided to kill him herself. The show really awakes me, to protect the people I love, pleasure the things I've got to this day and respect all the people that are gone. I appreciate how AOT was able to say that the true hero might not be the one to save humanity, but takes all the karma, suffered from his own decisions but still fights till the end. Great thanks to Ishayama, Mappa, Wit studio and all the people who make AOT as great as today. Thanks for transcribing such emotions, Animenz you nailed it!!! And also, thanks for being born to witness such an anime. Rest in peace Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and all the people who died in AOT, they deserve a better life, a place where there's no more sacrifices, wars and tears. 🕊

Animenz this was beautiful and awe-inspiring, and while the ending didn't meet my expectations, the journey was still incredible. I loved how u inserted guren no yumiya especially you never miss with any of your arrangements.

That was really beautiful! I loved the Guren No Yumiya part It's truly amazing how you make these pieces your own and also perfectly capture the essence of the original pieces ❤ You have dedicated your heart to this music and I'm so grateful to be living in a time where I can witness this beautiful art ❤ Thank you, Animenz! Looking forward to the rest of the AoT tributes

The Guren No Yumiya part was in the original in case you thought that was his idea

@@AryanSakariaAh okay. I just figured you might think it was his idea because he often implements other pieces in his arrangements. No worries :)

@@TheLloydLightning I know!! I've learned his YOUSEEBIGGIRL arrangement, and it has the Attaek on Titam theme, which the original doesn't

Thank you so much for your beautiful AoT arrangements. It has been a journey throughout these 10 years, and this will be a send-off to you 2 or 20 thousand years into the future if humanity still exists. Would it not be beautiful for humanity to listen to masterpieces like yours written 2000 ago?
