I love the little detail of how Naofumi can’t technically attack with a “weapon” besides a shield. Even when he’s using the curse series; his Self-Burning curse just counters whoever touches the shield, his Iron Maiden is a tool used to torture but it’s not technically a weapon, and the Blood Sacrifice Dragon-Trap is a capture tool for hunting and again, not technically a weapon. It’s a subtle detail that adds a lot of consistency to how the rules work for the Legendary Weapons.

I love the scene with Pope's weapon. It implies how truly weak all of them are. It's weaker than just one weapon. Yet it takes all 4 parties plus the Queen. Shows how far they have to go. The implications also of Queen bird saying they should be fighting all over. Yet the 4 together struggling with just 1 wave.

Yeah a lot of this is explained in the light novel. The basic is that Melromarc is an absolutely piece of shit kingdom, the only reason they have any political say is because the king used to be one of the seven-star heroes. Other countries were about to declare war on them because Melromarc summoned the 4 heroes. The conference is actually about which country is to summon which hero. Melromarc was not even considered on the list of countries that were supposed to summon a single hero. A big part about it is how the countries are to support and train the heroes. This is also one of the factors that there is only 1 hero per country, as the countries are supposed to poor almost all their ressources into a singular hero. Like the support the kingdom has given all 4 heroes together is lower than a singular hero is supposed to usually receive. The Kingdom is just completely incompetent in how they handled the entire situation, while other countries had entire plans in how the heroes will level, where they will go to train, etc. Another big part of course is also that the heroes are supposed to be weaker than the typical armies for the first fourish waves. Only then do they become so strong that they are actually required to fight the waves. At the later stages they reach truly demigod levels of power, where it becomes apparent why there are entire religious followings of them. In the manga "Reprise of the Shield Hero" you have Motoyasu after they lost to a wave and died go back in time to the beginning of the entire show and trying to save Naofomi. At one point he realizes just how much the Kingdom is against him and just straight up marches into the Royal palace, kills everyone who gets in his way and then kills the kings and destroys the entire palace.

Just like her pure hatred to dragons is also instinctual due to her being Filolial. Even though she has the ability to change into a human, she is still a Filolial at the core.

Shield Hero to me is one of the greatest anime's of our generation, complete with proper design and artwork, greatly designed elements, SUPERB characters with gripping stories and driving plot-points, all that with one of the best designed merchant-esqe systems in any anime ever. No words can describe the want for more of this series. The ONLY thing that bothered me was the sudden "We need you to die for our world" twist., and its so well done I can't even bitch about it. God dammit Shield Hero, why you so damn great.

I love just how much stronger Naofumi and his party got in such short time. In the second wave, Glass was way too powerful for Naofumi, and even his Iron Maiden was just a plaything to her. In just a few short months, he got strong enough to solo her, so now she is the one who has to play catchup in this arms race.

i really suggest you to pick up the Light novel, as that is the main source material for both manga and anime, the LN is very well constructed, and i love how despite being one of the old isekais from this gen, from early 2010s along mushoku tensei (getting anime soon too), overlord and konosuba, it still keeps a great level in its story writting and narrative, there is also things the anime changed, specially towards the end of s1, but it emphasizes a lot more other aspects of the series, the author really is superb in using a believable point of view in how naofumi tells everything, like, for early parts, when he is still with heavy stigma, he doesnt try to learn of the other 3 heroes, which is something natural if you are in such situation, he makes descriptions pretty well in how one person would do them, it knows well how to make sense of things and direct us with the narrative

9:40 that song always makes me cry. I both fucking love it and despise it at the same time, the mood the tone, the pain the sorrow and yet the love. Ugh it hurts beautifully and it made me like Raphtalia’s impact on the story a ton more for being such a positive constant in Naofumi’s life. I’m quite glad, if not intrinsically happy that he then too returns said love and support. Truly a beautiful moment telling of the strength of hearts and love. Still fuck the composer for forging my kryptonite into a song. Also, I was basically feeling a bit of French in me. “OFF WITH HER HEAD!” I had shouted on my first watch through. Because let it be said, I despise Malty. The king is an idiot and a traitor but mainly because of the former. And I was just giddy at the implications and just deserts served on a cold riotous platter for my boy Naofumi...only for the blow to be lessened and my bloodlust unfulfilled. At least I can call her what she is and everyone knows who I’m talking about. Also, I love home bases too, moreso because I love managing them in games when available. Just building up until it’s an unstoppable fortress full of my equipment and power is just lovely.

one of the things that i like is that this anime isn't your typical isekai/harem where the main protagonist is seen like a god for just doing little to anything and looks like a boyish man, rather he(naofumi) has to work his way to the top relaying on his companions no only in battle but for emotional support and he is precedent as a masculine man with a precarious nature who is well aware of the harsh reality of the world

I think one of the most intriguing things about this is that all the heroes have their own "game systems" and then Naofumi gets them after he wants to use them. Kinda like the games they referenced when they arrived influenced how they were interacting with the magic in this world

Honestly I am so damn impressed with your writing, the fact that you have clearly watched it before but can write a script that makes it seem that you dont know what will happen, like youre watching for the first time while making it. Episodes 15, 19, and 21 are great imo for different reasons: -15 is just shy of perfect across the board. -19 is basically an organic clip show/recap episode, showcasing all the good Naofumi's done and all the trouble the 3 Stooges have caused. The Shield blowing a gasket isn't so much as jumping on the others since they're all present, but him tired of them passing the buck and not even admitting their mistakes (well, sorta with the exception of Ren, who at least acknowledged his screw up). -21 is just great catharsis with finally seeing Trash and Myne get what they deserve and Naofumi taking a big step in healing (that second part being done WAY better in the anime than the LN imo).

I love how when Naofumi is involved, the directors tend to stay away from speech exposition and build on exposition with the framing of the areas around him and stuff, but when the other 3 heroes are doing expositions it goes into normal anime exposition dumps in order to show the difference of how the Naofumi is way different from a normal hero. The funny part is, they may not have even done it on purpose! 19:41 is a good example of how the heroes get word vomit dumps while Naofumi normally just does exposition by walking around. Fucking brilliant.

Dude, this anime is my personal favorite. I watched it as it premiered, and good god did it slay me! The fourth episode had me bawling like a baby because I can relate to Naofumi so much! I've been there. Scared to death and pushing away the people I care about because I was so paranoid about taking another knife in my back. I just never had a raphtalia to pull me out of it. I swallowed that black tar pill and fell into depression and rage. So watching him overcome everythin throughout the season was cathartic as all hell. It takes a hell of a man to take all that rage and aim it properly to level it at the true evils of the world. I'm not gay, but Naofumi is my husbando. I'm so glad to see it get some exposure and love. It was seriously overshadowed because of boku no hero and demon slayer, but it's a diamond in the rough like no other!

One gripe I have with the anime is how they changed some scenes from the source to make them less dark or make Naofumi seem like a better person.. Raphtalia finding out about her friends death was while she was still in the cell and way before meeting the shield hero and was way darker. And it was Naofumi who chose the death sentence for Bitch and Trash, not the queen. He was told he could choose their punishment and it didnt take very long for him to quickly demand their execution. But they left it out since they dont want their protagonist to advocate for death penalty. Though they should have left it in as it shows that Naofumi isnt a pure good character, it makes him more interesting than alot of other cookie cutter heroes. He then stops their execution similar to the anime and gives them their new names. This was just what I remember from the manga but I can bet that theres even more stuff from the light/web novels that were left out.

It also helps in showing that Naofumi is still mentally affected by the curse series, although that's going off of web novel knowledge as I'm just passed the spirit turtle arc in the LN

@@elijahaitaok8624 I dont entirely agree. Now web novel to light novel, definitely agree. Because that is still the same format. But seeing the same story in a new format is still adding something to it. A manga that adapts a light novel well is worth reading far more than the original because it adds the extra elements of the artwork, while the light novel could be better due to its descriptiveness. An anime that adapts a manga or light novel well might be better than the other two for adding in voicing, animation, etc. Things you cant experience in a manga nor light novel. Honestly the only one that ends up out of place is that if you have an Anime that adapts a light novel really well, then there's no reason to read the manga. The main reason to experience a manga or light novel when a good adaptation exists is because the other two are farther ahead in the story. Now if something is not adapted well, then you have more reason to experience the difference between version or to skip versions if it's very poorly adapted. Even though shield hero doesnt get the story as good as the other two versions it still gets the perks that come with being an anime rather than words or static images.

One thing I love about this show (which is something you didn’t mention) even though glass and the other two fighting for another world would seem like an unexpected plot twist, it was something talked about and confirmed in the first episode when they make it clear that the 4 hours come from 4 different worlds and I love that

Filo is as strong as she is ,because she has been exposed to the growth adjustment ( in 2 days became adult size ,& the speed she level up at) ,& a little later Status Adjustment (evenly increase) since just after she was born ,also the Growth ,& Status Adjustments are from the Moster Trainer Shield 1-3 ,& the Filolial Series of Shield ,also her power increased when she became Fitoria,'s successor ,her's status increase despite level being stuck at the time,then later when she finally got her Class Up , her's status ,& Raphtalia's status Double as a result of Filo being the successor.

I voted for Shield Hero on Best Score for the Crunchyroll awards. I can safely say the tracks make me feel the intended emotions and very strongly. They're all amazing and are utilised by the team so well during scenes. I'm shocked it didn't win ngl. I also voted Raphtalia best girl and honestly nearly cried when she won best girl. yeah ep 15 was rough i dunno why that hit me so hard but damn i had to pause the episode cause the tears wouldnt stop flowing, guess thats how good they are at showing a story and making an anime feel real. Also that ost is so good its on repeat at night for me.
