You'll notice that its like she's building up his resistance to the teasing. Ep1 was malicious but it also showed her what his limit was and how vulnerable he was to it. Now she very carefully pushes to that limit and pulls back if she goes too far. In a way she's basically providing a safe space for him to build up resistance. and, over time, he gets used to the level of teasing esp from her so he's no longer rubbed raw by it. It makes him better able to cope with it from others. That's part of the reason she's also protective of him against her friends because she knows they don't know his limit and they won't give him the candy to balance out the thorns. As her feelings have grown it's obvious that she's also insecure when she teases him about kissing or holding hands etc its because she's thinking about it first and she outright dares him to make the first move because she's afraid to herself. She intro's the idea and quickly says "kidding" when he doesn't follow thru.

TL:DR I'm happy that Nagatoro uses proper procedures and cares about limits, because the people that don't cause abuse. So, this is actually a correct form of Domination. This is what you do and it's called limits, and a vetting.process. if someone does not vet you and take time to learn your limits before having bdsm and intensive intercourse, they are dangerous. Those that immediately just jump straight into it without even learning you personally are using you for intercourse, or groomers. Although she does attempt to make the main character progress, she does have a character arc of her own (which is mainly only in the manga at the moment, the anime hasn't got far enough). Besides, Manic Pixie Dream Girls don't usually bring their male counterparts to tears until the end of the story (when they ultimately leave). Nagatoro is as shy as Naoto but handles it differently, which is shown quite often. The more unsure she gets, the worse the teasing becomes. Kinda feels like the old Shinji and Asuka dynamic but without the mental breakdowns.

I finished catching up with the manga last night and I did not expect it to be so sweet. I was turned off before cuz I don't like femdom but Senpai and Nagatoro are legit great together. It hit me even harder when Nagatoro started using Senpais hand gestures and Senpai started using "gross" to describe stuff later on. They're so close and so opposite it's great. Damnit... I watched Nagatoro... and I'm hooked. It caricatures more parts of myself and my life than I'd like to admit. Would have been fortunate if the bullying I received was as much of a façade as Nagatoro's, but I'm pretty sure it was just bullying, and being a sensible *real* person, I fucked right off from that instead of continuing to take it like "Senpai." I mean, even at her "worst", in Ep.1, there's a genuine gentleness when she relents and dries his tears...and she's blushing, always blushing around him. Yes, she boisterously pushes him into the canal, but it was clearly an accident....she didn't mean to and from her facial expressions she clearly feels bad about it. She's more hyper-aggressive flirt than true bully. And I love how quickly possessive she gets when her dimwit friends try to bully Senpai themselves. The funniest parts are when she overplays her hand a little, gets out over her skis and earns a little come-uppance. Nagatoro above all else is horny & frustrated.

She’s an immature first year and so of course she misbehaves and gets it wrong. I think the reasons why this genre is so appealing to some is because 1. Beta males don't get the girl for being beta males, they are being called out for it being forced to improve, or 2. The MC has a backbone and actually stands up to the teasing, and 3. It plays on that idea of a special relationship between two people of the opposite gender where -one is in control and the other is being dominated- just having good chemistry with each other

Another thing I like about the show is it didn't fall into the pitfall of "popular kid falls for nerdy kid but has to keep it a secret until it's inevitably found out. The popular kid then has to make a choice of friends or romantic interest". Nagatoro is pretty open about it from the get go and her friends don't really care. It doesn't take long for them to get on board too. They are essentially mean girls who just want to tease each other as well as "Senpai". It was a fun and more realistic angle even if sad sometimes when they use him as a pawn to get at Nagatoro. Like he said in the video, it ended up being really wholesome where everyone ends up rubbing off on each other in a positive way. Even the friend group as a whole benefits. I'm really going off on a tangent now but it even sort of reminds me of how in Mob Psycho everyone wants to take advantage and manipulate Mob for his power. Then what really happens is by being around his influence they all incrementally become good "people".

Took a while to get around to watching this. I had alot of free time because I had to switch from day shift to night shift at work. With that said. I loved this series. I am super invested in their relationship. And at no point did I feel she was bullying him or torturing him. I usually am pretty annoyed at characters like him but not this time for some reason. I need to say I am almost invested in this as I am with Rent-a-girlfriend. Nagatoro definately best girl of the season.

Yancha-gal no Anjou-san is actually like legitimately good. And she's not even like malicious about the teasing like Nagatoro initially is and they really do seem like good friends from the get-go. And something about the clothing and outfits seems like, I don't know; it's just like whenever there's an opportunity for like a full body shot in like an outfit, they just got that drip going and each one is like iconic, even if it's not like lewd or fanservice (there was one in a recent chapter, Anjou and her friends show up to the boys, boys as in two and friends as in two so there's 3 girls and 2 boys, it's like class trip and they show up to their room in like kigurumis; it's adorable, I want the alien one short-girl has, and it's overall wholesome). Granted, there is fanservice when it's relevant, but most of the time it's more clear she's flirting with Seto rather than just eye-candy for us.

Anjou-san seems more aware of her real intentions, that she obviously likes him but she's letting him build himself up out of the hole of negative self esteem so when he's willing to take steps forward she matches with him, more guiding him than anything. Nagotoro is more immature than she lets on and so she gets flustered easily when senpai moves forward and has to reconcile that herself because she doesn't really know what she's doing either, she's just more confident.

@@moved2938 Well, you can look at the flashbacks and just how he acts in general, and you can tell that he's a very sensitive person. I hate to bash research, but reddit seems like they would land squarely in the show's favor, if I could put my opinion on the community quite vaguely. And, given that it's obvious he's not in a stable state to mess with, that's where the red flag thing starts to come up. Healthy emotional habits aren't just not being a dick, they also include recognizing when someone is being pushed too far without it being shoved literally in your face with tears. My problem is that the author felt the need to harp on his negative emotions so much, rather than get it out of the way to make their relationship more believable. And even if that's the entire reason the scene exists, as it is with no changes, he could have at least had her go too far later on in the series when the reader knows she actually cares about him.

Because, even though the characters can be a tad frustrating at times, the development that gradually unfolds is genuinely heartwarming. While it's nothing dramatic, characters have great depth!

I describe this show as my one and only "guilty pleasure to just pleasure" anime The same way PewDiePie played MineCraft ironically and enjoyed it to just playing it unironically. It's like Takagi-san but bump everything up to Max. Takagi but 10× agressive and mean, Nishikata but 10× nerdier and wimpier, and character development that took Takagi-san 3 seasons happened in 2 episodes in Nagatoro 😆 but most of all, they got me 10× more attached to the characters faster than Takagi-san did. Not dissing Takagi-san, but the author of Nagatoro seemed like they watched Takagi and said "What if everything was extreme and lewd instead of innocent and laid back and the character development was faster?"
