Once while on a hike I felt energy coming from a group of rocks - and they were suggesting to me that I come and join them. I won’t ever forget that. Also, when I was putting some seedlings into the soil and digging there, an ecstatic energy suddenly seemed to emerge from from the earth to surround me. I was absolutely not on drugs of any kind. I will never forget it - There are other similar things. 💛

You discuss some brilliant contexts for these concepts and I really enjoyed your words about discernment: "because we don't want to waste time and our effort on a rock that, after all there's nothing in there, when we could be addressing the rock right next to it - that is in fact, alive." I think that works for people too! I've wasted a lot of time and effort on people that have been pretty dead inside! I've been following your talks on animism for a while now and they always resonate well with me. Thank you for your research and knowledgeable descriptions, as well as putting it all together in a way others can understand.

I have been struggling for quite some time, trying to seek out the concepts and belief structures of my ancestors. This video helped me to understand that it's not about physical bloodlines, but that the answers can be sought out by simply seeking to have a more open mind. "But some things do not require a deep meaning", you got me there Monsieur Härger ;) Or maybe not, since I stopped deperately seeking answers to questions that cripple my life rather than enhancing it. But this part of me still exists. I have to say that I am heavily drawn towards understanding things through logic and thinking rather than sensing, and with that: feeling, but I am working on letting those sensations and feelings in, haha. Still I turn around the, metaphorically speaking, "cubes of knowledge" you give us and look at them from all kinds of perspectives. This morning, watching this video, I imagined the following: What if all you tell us is just an imaginary construct. What if it is just another human made system disconnected from reality? Then I realized the beauty of what you probably want to tell us with animism. Even if it is those things, the perception of the world and the altered actions towards our surroundings would greatly benefit all life forms, including the humans. It is, in a sense, a more economical solution when the aim is to sustain life. And life itself is the most precious resource since it has the greatest variety of use, therfore the most possibilities to acquire wealth. I know this sounds cold and rational, and I am not looking at it from this perspective only, but look at it like this: you convinced the cold and rational part of me, the economically thinking fracture of my self, so probably you are able to convince a person whose main feature is to be cold and rational, haha. When I forumulate something I am always imagining what I would say if I had to give a Psychopath, whose reality is pretty much detached from that of most people, an understanding why it is best for him to live in communication and cooperation and why manipulating things with selfish intentions would not only harm others but himself also. I have the belief that everybody can understand another by translation. Here is what I mean: I can understand what you are trying to explain to some extend because I am trying to put myself into your shoes when you are talking. I try to figure out what those words you use mean to you, what they are describing and translate that into my own language. You and I use different words but often mean the same :D Like somebody said in the comments, you have a gift to create understanding in people through your words. I am thankful that you share your perspective here on KZbin since it inspired me and helped me a lot in my life and its edeavours. Wishing you all the best, René

I have long felt that there are these two lines of ancestors, of the body and of the soul, and this also means that through time and space both we create a veritable network of connections and points of emergence, which makes existence a much more complex weave, and we are over time and space weaving our web of life.

The things you say are so counter to my personal experience growing up steeped in witchcraft (Santeria) and superstition, but I am glad because in my family power was not about relationships with deeper entities or nature, or even about God since we were "Catholic". Coupling that with my father's atheistic views, I've spent most of my life either confused or apathetic. While I may never practice anything resembling witchcraft because I've seen what can come of it if you are careless, I want to grow closer to "other things", have more respect and understanding. I'm learning now, much in part thanks to you, Arith.

That is a proper attitude respect is vital within animism as well as understanding there are consequences if you dont know the ethics regarding communicating or meeting sourit dont trust any of it. Few are actually benevolent and it requires a long lasting relation between both. He is way better explaining it to a sense i lack as i am an animist working with personal spirits alone

I thank you for this video. I agree with what you are saying almost upto 90 percent. Human beings are trying their best to understand the surrounding around them in all aspects. They wanted to know what their physical body is made of. They wanted to know how thoughts are formed in their minds. They want to their relationship with their parents and their ancestors. They want to know what other people think of them. They also want to know how to influence them and how to control them physically and psychologically. Thus in their efforts to know what is around them in physical, psychological aspects they also want to know their relationship with forces of nature like air water fire earth as well as with plants, trees, hills and forest. In their efforts to know their relationship with supernatural forces they form various theories, thoughts, assumption and belief system. This results in formation of religious beliefs and such rationalisations as per their experience, and their capabilities to understand them. You have a very good understanding of souls, consciousness, spirits and ability to understand forces of nature. People like you should show the way to the people who are not concerned with these forces. Thanks again for this video.

@ArithHärger3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! Glad to know you enjoy what I do, hehe. Yes, indeed I can suggest some sources: I would recommend/suggest (to start) Rane Willerslev, Viveiros de Castro, Graham Harvey as recent sources, but also an older one Irving Hallowell. Each focuses on different cultures such as Siberian, Amazonian, Ojibwe, etc. so you get a different pictures but also common and similar perceptions, beliefs and conceptions from different cultures and geographical realities. I also recommend that last book I've made a review on, Evergreen Ash, by Christopher Abram, which is a good animistic approach, of sorts, to Old Norse and Icelandic cutlural aspects. Fabio Rambelli as well for animism in Japan in contemporary times, as Japan is still quite animistic and it's useful to understand how things are these days. Thomas DuBois has a very interesting book "Shamanism" and he picks various cases but one in particular which is the case of Thai Vang Yang, a practicing Hmong txiv neeb. As I often say, there's no shamanism without an animistic understanding, so this one will also be useful. Also, check Roger S. Gottlieb, it's really worth it. Also Juha Pentikäinen, perhaps even Joy Francis, Knut Helskot and Hans Mebius for Finno-Ugric studies.

Not sure if I follow you on the embodiment part. I experience the physical as the spiritual. The soul and body are one. And when I die, my body and soul transform into other things. Perhaps some other nonhuman souls form my being and this is what you mean? How do we experience the soul? Up to this point I have only experienced the soul through unity of mind and body...in fact because I cannot experience the totality of my body and mind I have limited contact with the soul, but I do experience part of it.

So as an example, an oak tree, has a use of being made into weapons, tools, firewood etc and also has a spiritual aspect of being associated with magical uses. An oak tree that is cut down vs the tree that is not for some other spiritual or physical use. Is this the practical approach that you mean?? Trying to grasp this concept
@satturnine73203 жыл бұрын
My understanding of the soul is that it is the animating life force which is the totality of previous reincarnated lives that originated from ‘source’ (Ginnungagap) Your spirit(identity) does not exist before this life and was generated at birth Our task is the merger of the two If a ‘schism’ (possible trauma and/or deep personal conflicts) occurs the spirit becomes a ghost and the soul moves on It’s a symbiotic relationship Of course this is a much simpler version of one’s totality as explained in your previous video that I linked here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4CzaYCJgbadiMU

Don’t forget that animals having a soul is a new concept in the Christian mindset even in the scientific mindset. It was believed animal’s didn’t have souls or had primitive souls. I think many atheists who claim they don’t like Christianity do not realise that in a cultural and philosophical sense they are not too far removed.
