This is wonderful Arith - much of what you have said here reminds me of the role of native healers and elders in the area where i live, and the healing ceremonies are often done the way that you described near the beginning - the women form a circle and sing - and lend energy to the sickperson and the shaman in the healing circle

I couldn't watch this all the way through as it brought up memories that should stay hidden. Over 25 years ago I thought that I would try "astral Travelling" and settled down in my flat to do it. Itstarted okay and i drifted to a green place that seemed very peaceful, but empty, even though I had the feeling of being watched, and a feeling of not belonging. I came back after looking around for someone, anyone, but finding no-one. It felt that I had been away a very long time but in truth only minutes had passed here. The rest of the day I felt uneasy and ill and decided that was it. The only time that i will travel like that is in my dream state.

Yes, thank you for this video. Your discussion of the mediating role that it is necessitated for someone to take for an animistic society's world-view beginning at about 41:00, makes a lot of sense. This is a fascinating discussion of what gives the shaman his purpose--the very mediation to deal with the 'elements' that most people would prefer not to---due to fear or trepidation. The terrible thunder, the horrendous destruction of the mountain's avalanches, and so forth seemed to call for a mediating response from the community somehow. Since animism has clearly been the most common human world-view among societies in history, it only makes sense that to truly understand even our own past and our own history, we have to take understanding shamans and their ceremonies and services very seriously.

Thank you so much. I just found your channel about 5 months ago, and I totally love it. I am a history geek always have been. I love that you are standing up to those that refuse to change even as new evidence is found daily in digs around the world. Your teaching often reminds me of Marija Gimbutas. Another that bucked what others refused to change after finding the truth. I follow the craft (not wicka) but any that have done ritual weather alone or in a group should understand there are other realms and worlds. We call on them daily. Science seems to finally be catching up some with there study’s of the multiverse and string theory. Now if only those that write the history books would catch up. I think your channel is awesome. I am sad that you may not continue, but you must always follow your true hearts path. I ask that you please leave your stuff up because I am still catching up on them all and sometimes I watch them more then once to see how I stand and feel about each one. I hope to see you put out new ones even if just every few months, but you must do what is best for you and your family. I ask the Lord and Lady to always watch over you, to entwine there gold and silver lights around you and protect you and yours, so mote it be. Have a wonderful and joyous New Year. Blessings Be to you and yours. ❤️💖💕

Best wishes to you! I hope you'll find a way to continue posting a video from time to time and that your professional life will offer you all the incomes you need without draining all of your time and energy! You're indeed one of the few youtubers I find to be a good source of information when it comes to such matters. In this video I've been particularly glad to see a solid critic of Eliade's work. It's rare to hear such a thing and very welcomed and needed, in my opinion! The first critic of his work I found was in IM Lewis' book, Ecstatic Religion, just a few months ago. It's a book that helped me understood better the sources of core/neo shamanism, along with another book by Bertrand Hell: "possession et chamanisme " (in French). I'm particularly interested in the topic of possession/incorporation/mediumship in shamanism and it seems Eliade was wrong on that matter too. Soul flight is not the only way for shamans to get some information: quite often enough, the spirits come to them or directly through them (through their body). It seems most if not all anthropologists followed Eliade for decades and little by little dare to step away from his influence. I guess Michael Harner was a follower of Eliade, as so many others, and built his "core" technic on that work ("core" is something that looks like sophrology to me, more than shamanism). I also particularly appreciate the emphasis you put on the other than human "persons", that word "person", and the role of intercessor/mediator of the shaman and of the importance of creating relationships. It seems more and more people tend to "psychologize" shamanism and consider spirits as "archetypes" somewhere in their head (maybe under the influence of Harner's "sophrology" thing?) and that's quite disastrous in my opinion. As a sidenote, I wonder if all "sources" on shamanism really do show that the shaman systematically pleads for forgiveness for all deaths caused by hunters, in all cultures? I wonder if animals killed by the lion expect the lion to say sorry for that death and what if animals consider us as any other predators (though maybe the worse of them)? Maybe animals don't have the same perception of death as us... Non-human spirits often have different worldviews than ours...
@sandra.helianthus2 жыл бұрын
I fully agree to all your points. And also on your latter question. In my own experience, if I may share it, animal spirits answered these kind of questions much more pragmatic to me, than I (being a vegetarian) do myself. I eat, you eat, they eat. When I harvest grain, I take a life too. But life and death are part of the whole, open the door for development. Personally, I think, the appeasement of spirits is much more a religious aspect, depending on the community's worldview, than it is a spirtual necessity. In my experience it is of much more importance to pay respect to the living person - a thing mankind lacks greatly (not only in the "western" world!). In this I do see an important modern role for people on a neo-shamanic path (whatever this actually means - it simply lacks a proper name): as a mediator between the humans who cannot "see" and the unseen persons, not only to be of service to a human community, but also to the unseen communities. 🌻
@marocat4749 Жыл бұрын
@@sandra.helianthus Through that would be at least kinda a loose community that would at least have to be open to animism to degree to work out ?! But yep reaching out too is communal work. (as opposed to evangelizing,thats just harassment, and you can go around talking, buttak a noorsomeone not willing as no)
@sandra.helianthus Жыл бұрын
@@marocat4749 not necessarily, I think. There are many people having contact to non-human persons (e.g. angels, ancestors etc.) who feel far away from being animists. For me as a person with an animistic world view, this would leave out many non-human persons and might not even help our connection to our basic environment around us. But those people too can certainly do communal work while connecting the seen and the unseen. (I just believe a more "nature"based connection broadens our horizon, is "better" - for us and other beings. )
@sandra.helianthus Жыл бұрын
@@marocat4749 in case you meant we need an animistic view to treat non-human persons with respect... I think: not really, (though somehow I wish it would) because scientifically speaking there is no reason to assume us to be any "prior" or "above" to another animal. An animal is an animal is an animal. That humans deem themselves prior did also happen in animistic societies, unfortunately.

"Non-human-person" é fácil : "Pessoa-não-humana", em uma tradução ao pé da letra. "More-than-human" : "Mais-que-humana", também ao pé da letra. As someone who has lived within a life experience that firmly pushes me to a position of being a Shaman within an Animist Totemic belief and world view throughout my life since early childhood, the modern colonialist ideology which states that for a person to be a Shaman they absolutely must be taught, initiated, and certified as such by a particular physical human of specific authority has never felt "correct" to me because a Shaman is not a "priest" in the Western colonialist ideological sense, and thus "human authority" cannot mandate who is and is not a Shaman. The Shaman, by definition, is one who facilitates interaction and communication between the physical and spiritual realms and the entities there in. A priest can engage in Shamanistic practice, but a Shaman is not necessarily a priest per se as dictated by Western theological ideology. A priest is a spiritual leader, teacher, guide, healer, and councilor as needed by members of the community, but a Shaman is a whole different level of spiritual service to the community. So how can a physical person dictate who is or is not, can or cannot be, a Shaman? Especially when it is the non-corporeal spiritual beings who choose the Shaman whether the person wishes to be a Shaman or not.
