Well he was a Hardcore PvP gamer back in the day vs a bunch of others who had characters of an equal level that were probably using heavy min/max builds whist he is using a largely Role play character; he needed to be on the top of his game to fight on an even playing field in that environment.

My favorite part is how strongly Ainz belittles his own intelligence, just cause Demiurge and the other NPCs overestimate him, talking about how he doesn't even know what tomorrow will bring despite objectively being a great prepper for danger at the minimum.

@@cnlbenmc The guild Ainz Ooal Gown was generally one of the top guilds in Yggdrasil. Despite this, many of the players were pretty half/half with roleplay/optimization. Peroroncino, Tabula Smaragdina, and Touch Me are the only players that are objectively minmax builds over roleplay ones, iirc, while just about everyone else had some degree of sacrificing strength for coolness, or for less combat-oriented builds. (Takemukazachi, Nishikienrai, Ulbert Alain Odle, Yamaiko all have specific mentions of being at least decently well-built in the wiki's list of members, and Punitto Moe is regarded as a genius strategist, but are either implied to have some notable weakness or have less of an emphasis on their capabilities as the other three.)

For some reason Gondo's conscious pursuit of something so completely futile (before Ainz crossed his path) seems so endearing, his people could easily be at the brink of extinction but what he cares the most is to make sure their legacy does not end even if they all dissapear.

Its hy Ainz takes a shine to him. Despite seeming apathetic, he's a really nostalgic person. Gondo's desire to not want something previously great to fade into history is something Ainz could identify with.

As someone who has trully enjoyed the world building of Overlord since the beginning, I must say I found myself a bit disappointed in the lack of insight into the lizard characters. When inside Ainz's tower, I would've liked to see conversation among the lizard folk regarding what they think and how they feel about their current situation. I wanted to hear them comenting on the tower's interior and on Ainz.

Zenburu was an adventurer himself. What Ainz does is beyond anything he has witnessed, but he isn't unfamiliar with the strange. But in the LNs, we do get snippets of the other Lizardmen, their views on how E-Rantel is like, on Ainz, etc.

Okay, after the most recent episode I'm convinced that the world itself deems Ainz' actions as INT-based activities, and uses his character stats to determine how ingenious his actions are, ignoring that the guy himself has a hard time telling what's happening unless it's Ygdrasil-related.

Thing is, the system of attributes of the YGGDRASIL didnt have the INT, WIS and so on as valid stats. There were Magic Attack and Magic Defense as stats that corresponded to the prowess of character in magic and related abilities instead. It is a nice theory, but, unfortunately, littl bit of a shaky one. That is, unless the New World counts MAT and MDF as a sort of stand-ins for intellect, wsdom, charisma, willpower and other such stuff.

Though it doesn't have things like INT, it does have similar systems to how the npcs were formed in that world, Backstory, Alignment, Hidden meaning. Players had a beginning of level 1. They weren't summoned as much as they came into being by their own will and that will would be defined by the story they make by every path they take. Every battle lost and every victory won was what defined them. The thoughts in their head would have little change with how they act and RP being what defines the person on the outside. The world would revolve around Ainz, making him look like the perfect strategist because he has not only shown that he's competent as a Guild Leader, but also because it's how he role plays the part of being the once weak necromancer who was ganked by players time and again till he gained allies, rose to being the leader of Ainz Ooal Gown, a top guild with the most impenetrable fortress that he played a major part in crafting. RP plays a heavy part in his outward appearance just as it does with writing the inner personality of the npcs if you want them to act a certain way. Back to the first episode where Momonga brought out an aura of despair towards all his allies without meaning to, and yet they all praise him for being bathed in that "light". The world knows what Momonga is like on the outside just as it knows what he's real like on the inside, and because of that, the gears turned perfectly in favor of what Ainz, of what Momonga, is.

Ainz’s negotiations and sales pitch moments are among my favorite aspects of Ainz’s character. Like Ainz convincing Ainzach to support Ainz in establishing a state-run Adventurers Guild, Ainz explaining his intentions to Ainzach when they were planning to scout adventurers, or Ainz’s trade negotiations with the Dwarves. Because these are all moments where Ainz has to rely on his own intelligence and businessman skills in order to succeed(without being misinterpreted).

I don't think he's gotten to that episode yet. This is the one where he gets to the first abandoned dwarf city and captures the first group of doggies. Next episode is where he approaches the dwarf high council, makes a deal to capture the dwarf capital in exchange for all of the rune crafters plus friendly trade relations. The episode after that is the one where he conquers the dragons and opens up the vault.

We've already encountered a moment where someone actually wielded a weapon capable of killing him... Don't remember his name, but it was that noble knight guy wielding his kingdoms "national treasures" or whatever, after Ainz summoned his adorable baby goats, and the sword was capable of killing him. Unfortunately, the knight simply wasn't high enough level to keep up with him, so the sword didn't matter... as per the knights wishes, he returned his corpse, as well as it's armor and the sword, back to the kingdom it belonged to. He didn't care. :P So unless TOUCHING the weapon would kill Ainz, i don't see why he wouldn't take it with him, just cause "it could kill him". xD

@@MyouKyuubi I think Ainz meant that the weapon had enough data storage to be able to damage him, but the weapon wasn't developed enough to actually damage him. It's like two identical legendary weapons, except one is level 20 and one is level 100. You can upgrade the level 20 weapon to level 100, but the level 20 weapon is still level 20.

If I recall correctly, there is a limit for actual runes that have effects, and it is much lower than shown in the sword that Ainz had. But in fact those runes didnt have any effect whatsoever, it was just cosmetic. The item was actually trash stat-wise

One explanaition missing here is that Runecraftᵀᴹ didn't even exist in YGGDRASIL. The runes on the sword that ainz was showing off were purely cosmetical. Thats why Ainz is so interested in Runecraftᵀᴹ Another thing that should be mentioned is the Quagoa were totally fine with submitting to a leader that was stronger than the frost dragon. But they wanted to submit personally to this leader (Ainz) and not to his subordinates. Just this one hesitation flipped chairs slaughter switch. The LN made it pretty clear that she messed up AGAIN. If Ainz had talked with them first, all quagoa would have survived.

I still love that Shaltear in the end, successfully failed. By that I mean, that yes, she succeeded but she failed at achieving the total victory she could have had by simply saying "Ainz makes dragons his slaves." They would have surrendered as a species, and Ainz would have a second species he could call his own like the Lizardmen.

Well, in the end it didn't matter, they needed to kill the quagoas and reduce there number if the wanted to bring them back. To maintain 60 thousand of them they would need to spread their resources more and they don't have many natural ones. So yeah, she failed successfully, but she needed to kill them and killing them after subjugation would be bad.

@@eduardusk5808 The light novel goes into the fact there numbers weren't an issue if they had been subjugated by Ainz due to Ainz having unbelievable amounts of materials to feed them, and the ability to feed them Yggdrassil metals that would have allowed for proper experimentation. As well, without those explanations you have the Happy Farm. Some of the lizard men were taken to the Happy Farm after their subjugation, it stands to reason, the same could be done with the Quagoa. Also, as the Light novel goes into, there was enough of a split that there would have been a civil war anyways, which would have allowed their leader to save more than the 10k, but have less than 60k in the long run. He was smart enough to know how to save the most of his people, but Shaltear couldn't think beyond simple words and sentences. Aura is a kid, and relatively sadistic as well, so she isn't the best to help Shaltear with a mission involving some minor diplomacy. That is why I think it is a more funny successfully failing. Though in the end, it shouldn't really be held against Shaltear, cause at least she tried.

And she could have said "Strong enough to destroy a human country!" or "Strong enough to destroy dragons!" Any of those would have had the Quagoa leader bend knee, without repercussions beyond a few minor Quagoa leaders leading a small civil war, which, then Shaltear could have easily put down, and had more troops to hand over to Ainz. AND not all members of the guardians (the Pleiades count as guardians,) follow or worship Ainz to the same level. See Lupis Regina, as she barely was able to succeed at her redemption quest, due to her loyalty issues As I said, Shaltear was entirely consumed by keeping her angry sadistic self in check, which meant she couldn't understand what was being said, while Aura could have and should have stepped in, partially. A simple statement of Ainz' power, which... everyone tends to do anyways, would have solved the issue of the Quagoa, within moments, and without the butchery.

It is a True Dragon Lord, Platinum Dragon Lord's magical armor which appeared in Season 1 before. He was actually patrolling around and saw Shalltear under standby mode due to the World Item casted incompletely, and curious on how strong Shalltear is and launched an attack, hence the scene. He will be making an appearance after around 3 episodes, judging from the pacing. Hopefully they won't rush that much tho, as they already have skipped a lot of details in the anime.

To be fair, Ainz is not supid. He is very very good at what he knows but still inexperienced with many other topics. He is a gamer after all, not a ruler of a country or the world, yet. Though if I were in to be in his position, I would set up several scout teams to search for powerful opponents that can be monitored. In the opening it is visible that he met the silver dragon which is supposed to be one of the most powerful entites on the contient if we are not looking at the guild.

Isn't Overlord from old ttrpg where the writer was dm or something? 2:30 - to that point, I heard, read, saw that from the clips they showed in the anime. Then other reason being that he wants other adventurers to get to do that too. I imagined the journey in my head, but as he wasn't the director, we didn't get to hear his DM take on the journey. Some are absolute beasts at that work, maybe even able to fill the boots of beginning rpers, by having books of tasks ready for the players, and main line things to hook up if they start to spring out too fast to stratosphere. Also having that sweet storytelling in between. Some are just excellent fight designers maybe not strategians, but tacticians, or just sly at their play, but I love those who can weave the story, have that strategy somewhere there hanging above, and then leaving tactical side of the game being there to take the dice rolls, just in case some critical roll happens to shatter whole storyline. Those ridiculously timed critical rolls. Overlord reminds me of Me, myself, and dice. Overlord just includes nations, strategy, tactical play, and clear roll of dice. Even if people say that this is just op wank off anime, but when you play your dnd game far enough... You basically reach the level of god. I don't know how many years one would have to play to do that. I'm just watching first season of Me, myself, and dice. It's one VA playing it. I understood that he is DM also, and solo play is just something you use to test out things, or just solo play.

Am I the only who noticed that the world item looked different in the anime compared to LN. Personally I would have preferred the anime using a blank space like in the light novel but that's just to show off the items ability. (Also correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a minute since I read that arc)

IMO this is my theory of runecraft: 1st, the novel stated players who chose the dwarf avatar+ craftsman job classes where given bonus for using that combination. what the bonus entails we do not know. all we know is that dwarfs were considered the best choice for the craftsman jobs just like how elves are the best choices for rangers, rogues, and druids. for instance, mare is considered pretty OP after Rubedo as her druid powers is effective against armies. 2nd, ainz owl gown was a guild comprised of only heteramorphic beings. so their guild did not see first hand what the bonuses entailed as no player in their guild played as a dwarf much less a dwarf with craftsman job classes. 3rd, the pinnacle of runecraft was 200 years ago while the pinnacle of wild magic was before the arrival of the players, but the evil deities caused so much damage the art of runecraft was lost, plus the magic hammer utilized by the magic craftsman was effective enough to slay a dragon and fight alongside the 13 heroes. additionally, like tier magic and unlike wild magic runecraft requires mana instead of sacrificing souls. my theory is that runecraft is similar to eclipse where you have to invest certain levels in racial class and a certain job class in order to access it. for instance, momonga had to invest levels in overlord plus heavy emphasis in necromancer job class in order to access eclipse once you reach level 95. like eclipse i believe you have to have to invest in the dwarf race class plus very heavy emphasis on craftsman job class where you will be able to access runecraft once you reach level 95. the novel also states that it was very common for level 100 players to carry no divine class gear as creating divine class gear is super hard since the material cost is pretty high such as needing "super rare loot" data crystals with ultra-rare metal such as prismatic ores. since runecraft requires very little material cost i believe runecraft was a way to bridge the gap between legendary items and divine items. after all losing your best item when killed was part of the game so i doubt anybody would like to lose a divine item compared to a runecraft item which can then be forged again in yddrassil. finally, like tier magic in the new world its plausible new world dwarves cant access the full scope of runecraft. for instance, the highest tier that can be accessed in the new world is 6th tier which is considered legendary in new world standards while tier 7-10 is a tier only the "gods" (players) can access so its plausible inscribing 6 runes is the pinnacle of runecraft talent for a new world dwarf, but inscribing 7-10 runes is something only a god level (player) dwarf can access.
