#anissa #invincible #invincibleseason2 #markgrayson
Invincible's most hated character has finally made her animated debut. Anissa is a complicated character who has done some truly horrible things in the comic books. But Anissa is also a fiercely loyal soldier who eventually learns the error of her previous ways much like the other Viltrumites. Today's video covers her complete comic book history.

As someone who suffered sexual assault by a female partner years ago, the way that Mark handled the aftermath of being raped was very cathartic to me. The fact that he had lasting pain and issues with it that affected his relationship with his son for years after was very grounded in how such an act can having an impact on not just the victim, but how they interact with others going forward. It's why I can't hate that issue. It deals with real things in realistic ways and does not condone what Anissa did.

I say they should just have Eve kill Anissa this time round when she finds out. Mark wouldn’t want that because he’d feel it was his fault and it gives even more drama and complexity to his and Eve’s relationship.

@@li-limandragon9287I think Anissa’s redemption is important. She’s an abuser but also a product of a cycle of abuse and victimization that trapped the entire Viltrumite species. Mark eschewing violent retribution, hugging his father after everything, is the point. It saves their species.
@li-limandragon9287
@li-limandragon9287 2 ай бұрын
@@IvanMoncureBut the difference is, Anissa’s actions have consequences that completely dwarf anything Nolan, Thragg or Conquest does. Her being part of a violent life style is not an excuse because she didn’t go after Mark for simply breeding purposes she lusted for him and outright says “I missed you” like a creep in a later scene. She’s no different from any sex offender on the street and she shouldn’t get any special privileges or excuses. Plus let’s be real if she was a man and Mark was a woman, a redemptive arc would get Kirkman crucified.

I wouldnt say she became a good guy.She was definelty viewed in a more positive light but not to the main cast.Especially not Mark and Eve they never forgave her.Tho I agree her shift was a bit too fast,her having an intrest in Mark is only a couple of scenes here and there due to all the stuff that was happening around the time.But maybe that was intentional to show how differently Viltrumites view intimacy?Anyway it is a very heavy plotline that affected Mark for the rest of his days and I hope it doesnt get cut or changed drastically

There was recently an interview done with Kirkland and he said he wanted to make Anissa an irredeemable character but see if the audience had the capacity to forgive her. Honestly I think it’s a mix bag. In the comics she gave off a look of intimidation both in her first appearance than in her redesign. She came off as someone you want to avoid. This appearance works well to though, frankly she more pleasant to look at and that could be viewed as the possible reasoning that a viltrumite takeover isn’t so terrible as well as how she tries to display the good qualities of the empire. What I think they should do is give her more screen time to flesh her out more to get a bit of both worlds. Still I prefer her appearance in the show.

The reason I hate Anissa the most is of course the rape scene but the biggest controversy is the fact that, Mark had to suffer everything and even mentally too where at the end of the comic he is still haunted by Anissa and now has to take take the burden of taking care of his son. Anissa on the other hand didn't get any negative repercussions. When Thragg arrived she died and saved Eve but yet gave 0 closure towards Mark. People may say like, Oh maybe she is also suffering from what she did. I'm pretty sure she felt some guilt but she is living a full happy life with her son and new husband. This is some real situations that also happens in life where sometimes the person conducting sexual assault is scot free while the victim has to suffer in the aftermath.

I mean are we really not going to point out that While most make good points about Viltrumates all being evil, In modern times some hold Grape as worse, and to have a woman it seems like a excuse.. like let's not have a man do because we know he'll stay a villain, but a woman can be redeemed ? To me it seems odd, I mean oh aren't men and women the same?

I’m actually okay with that: it’s realistic. In real life, good people often suffer and bad ones get away with their misdeeds. I don’t think it’s wrong to depict a bad person getting away with bad actions. Problem is, if her redemption is a unfulfilling in the show as in the comic, I expect that some people will forgive her undeservedly rather than continue to dislike her (as they should).

This. We dislike her because she’s poorly written. Her behavior towards Mark’s absence coupled with what she knows about his powers is inconsistent, but the characters and show try to lie and say it’s a good thing. Edit: I should have clarified that I was talking about Season 1 and will admit that she’s a lot more understanding in Season 2.

He knows that's. From what I've seen, there's this weird team think or feigned ignorance people who say lines like that in defense of Amber in season 1. It's basically the patrick/wallet scene from spongebob. You can break down point by point why Amber or at the very least her character and actions, as they were written to be, were terrible. And every single time, people like this never acknowledge what you just typed or resort to calling you some -ist. I guess it has something to do with her being a woman/poc. Their hard wiring treats it like some sort of logical paradox and can't compute it.

I feel like in S2 they've gone a long way towards realigning her views towards actual sense, where she respects mark but just can't handle being in a relationship with him. And I think they were attempting to do that in S1 but failed lol. I think that scene where he finally comes clean should have been much more ambiguous, where she accepts why Mark lied to her but still is really hurt by it. And I think they've really done that interaction well in S2, and I can handle her as a character now.

The Viltrumites as a race have to answer to no one, and they rule as the survival of the fittest dictates. So why would human morales of rape and murder apply to them? It's an uncomfortable idea that we should allow TV shows to explore, but in this age of wokeness we find ourselves restricting our freedom to explore more and more and conversely imposing more and more censorship on ourselves. I grew up around the height of freedom when there was very little you couldn't do on TV. Quite frankly I'm more surprised that Amber and Mark are breaking up because I imagine more people will be upset that Mark will ditch a black woman for a white woman, regardless of how well the show handles it.

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t see Anissa doing the straight up assault in the show version. Her dialogue and delivery makes her come off as genuinely well meaning, although she is still very much cruel, cold, and blunt about it; just like Nolan. But she never stops being reasonable, driving home the point that more humans will be better off under Viltrum rule. She even has a line which implies she does not enjoy violence and is only interested in benefiting people; though her methods are of course wrong. I feel like they’re building her up for an eventual redemption already, and I don’t think the assault is necessary to show her become better. Especially since, at least how it’s presented here, her redemption seemingly comes out of absolutely nowhere in the comic. Maybe I’m wrong, I just can’t see her doing it.

A lot of people seem to hate Anissa’s redemption, but I think it’s an important part of the series and of Mark’s journey in particular. Anissa isn’t any worse than Nolan, not when you really consider all the genocide. We just don’t spend so much time with Nolan’s victims so we don’t feel for the pain he caused, but the moral of the whole series is that death isn’t retribution. Dying for your crimes fixes nothing, helps no one except anyone you planned to hurt in the future. The viltrumite species deserves extinction if we are metering out death for death. Instead their eventual destiny is to live to improve the lives of others.
