"Daylight. When was the last time you remember seeing it? And I'm not talking about some distant, half-forgotten childhood memory, I mean like yesterday. Last week. Can you come up with a single memory? You can't, can you? You know something, I don't think the sun even... exists... in this place. 'Cause I've been up for hours, and hours, and hours, and the night never ends here."

When marimba rhythms start to play, Dance with me, make me sway. Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore, Hold me close, sway me more. Like a flower bending in the breeze, Bend with me, sway with ease. When we dance, you have a way with me; Stay with me, sway with me. Other dancers may be on the floor, But my eyes will see only you. Only you have that magic technique: When we sway, I go weak. I can hear the sounds of violins Long before it begins. Make me thrill as only you know how: Sway me smooth, sway me now. Other dancers may be on the floor, But my eyes will see only you. Only you have that magic technique: When we sway, I go weak. I can hear the sound of violins Long before it begins. Make me thrill as only you know how: Sway me smooth, sway me now. Come on, babe ... Sway me now. Sway me smooth ... Sway me now, yeah. Oh-ohh, gotta sway me now. Come on, babe ... Come on, babe ... Sway, sway ... Take me ... now. (Sway me.)

I completely agree with this. I'm not sure why people have given the comment a thumbs-down, maybe they see the word "dark" and think you're saying something mean. The way that Kelsey performed the song really fitted in with the whole (dare I say it) dark atmosphere of the film. One of the best films I've seen, it really gripped me. I also loved her performance of "The Night has a Thousand Eyes" - I much prefer it to the popular version released by Bobby Vee.

Actually this version of the song is used in the theatrical cut and Jennifer Connelly's version is released later in the director's cut. Personally I don't prefer any one over the other. But in the movie's context it makes more sense to use Jennifer's rendition.

This song just forces you to sway with her, she just sings it in such an awesome way, unlike Connelly's version where it's too straight, doesn't have that fantastic swing. This is my favorite version.
@andrey2210 жыл бұрын
In the director's cut, Connelly's version was kept, with all her flat notes for a reason: (spoilers) When the outsiders swapped lives, minds and memories, they changed Connelly into a lounge singer but there has never been any indication she had ever sung before, which means that a good portion of the physical preparation and more importantly TALENT was not within her. It was a subtle foreshadowing device that basically said: "she became a lifetime-long singer 15 minutes ago". It's not only "love" that the Outsiders never could grasp, it was also things like "talent" and who knows how many other human characteristics.
@jibch10 жыл бұрын

***** definately! It's where you get the "feeling" something is very, very wrong with this world, there is some kind of imperfection, something very vital missing in people. They know it, but they cannot explain it. They just go bland. It's... such a perfect reflection of this feeling in connelly singing, that with this meaning in it, I find that one to be much more stimulating. It's, achingly, painfully beautiful.
@denisl27602 жыл бұрын
@@andrey22 Good point, but I wouldn't say Connelly's singing is bad and lacks talent. Its more subdued, sadder, and fits the "noir" theme of the movie better. Anita is obviously great, but her singing here is too upbeat to fit the tone of the movie.

tifaucz I understand the appeal of The Matrix because of the action and the lore. However, it's not that bold. It's just another good sci-fi action film. DARK CITY on the other hand lures the audience in with it's enigmatic and dark atmosphere and there is no outstanding lead. The characters are dull, lost, wandering in a vast prison, trying to find a truth that is beyond their grasp. In the end, only some queries are satisfied unlike The Matrix which is quick to appease the audience with a ton of exposition. I must admit did not warm up to DC when I first saw it but subsequent viewings changed my mind about film and I finally realized the work of genius that it was.
@Krshwunk7 жыл бұрын
Just watched Dark City not an hour ago. Not as good as the Matrix. It had some amazing scenes and had a lot of potential. The first half was semi-unwatchable and could have been pulled off much more elegantly. I hope they remake it ... provided J.J. Abrams has nothing to do with it.

And the irony is, they used some still-assembled sets from _Dark City_ when they filmed _The Matrix_ like Trinity's opening at the beginning of the film, because they were having trouble with funding and needed to convince those with the purse to fund them. I liked the first two _Matrix_ films, but they made a fundamental flaw with the third movie. With Neo's collapse and machine-ken at the end of the second movie, they could have chosen to reveal that even the "free" humans were *still in the Matrix* and that freedom itself was a lie, and then _why_ that was the way it was, but they didn't.
