After listening to both songs, I think Jennifer's voice fits her character the movie. She has more pained vibe and a lack of certainty in her voice. Alita's voice I think would be "better" if graded on an academic scale though. I guess I like them both for different reason.

we just discussed this film in class and someone made the point that in the original cut we here connely's voice because the point of that character is that she doesn't have the voice of a lounge singer, just the memories of one.

This is a pretty pedantic point to make, but the picture in the video is actually from the scene where Jennifer Connelly's character is singing Sway. That said, this song is great. Love it!

This version is superb, i very much appreciate it. but to be honest, Jennifers version surprised me (i knew this song before watching the movie), i enjoy Jennifers to Anitas, she conveys a stronger feel to it. Isnt there a longer version, or complete one from J.Connelly? I just had the pleasure to watch this movie piece, fantastic work, and a strong symbolism, on one's own identity.

A wonderful version of this song from a great show. The words from the title weren't used in the version in the film. I was cut off early, so it took me some time to work out what it was.

Jennifer sings in the Director's Cut Version. In the theatrical version sings Anita but the versión from the movie and the soundtrack (I've got it) are slightly different.

I agree...they should have let Jennifer sing in the realeased version...but I have to admit...Hearing Anita's voice and seeing Jennifer's eyes had me interested in watching the rest of the movie! I have to say, Anita does have chops...

There is something different about this version compared to the short video clip on youtube of length 1:35. I liked the other version because it sounds a lot more sober. I donno, something different about it. Honestly, it sounds like two different people singing! Maybe Jennifer Connelly actually sang the one on youtube rather than Anita Kelsey?

Well I'd say smooth jazz, since it has strong pop elements (distorted guitar, half time with strong Backbeat and rather simple but effective harmonies).

Yeah...I am glad I only ever saw this on DVD. If this is the version that was released in Theaters as many people keep saying.Not impressed with this overly jazzy princess wannabe version at all.Jennifer fit the vocals mood wise so much more.
