I learned a few new techniques like invisible stitching the collar and that cool way to sew a curved hem with a gather. I also have been wasting my time all these years doing the hems with a a fold and a fold but now I can press a fold and then tuck the fabric inside to that fold. Genius! Thanks Anita!

This video was great! I was able to learn something new. I ventured out on this one, adding buttonholes. They were easier than I thought. The only problem I had was the armholes are bit large, I prefer a pattern with smaller armholes. It looks like yours are longer than mine were. The dress did come out a little larger than I expected. I am going to add the sleeve cuffs to give the armholes a little more definition. Thanks for the step by step directions and I like your directions for the collar band. I made another band, since mine was too short. It was ok, as I had enough fabric left. Thanks again!

@AnitabyDesign7 ай бұрын
@@Arleathia Hi Arleathia! There are lots of people in the sewing course who are not new beginners. Some are there for a refresher, and others felt they needed to learn all over again. I can't really say you need the course since I don't know how much you already know. It is a very detailed, slow paced course because I assume the students don't have any experience. You can check out the course page and click on the course syllabus to see exactly what skills I'm teaching. There are also lots of FAQ to help you decide if the course is for you. One think to keep in mind also: We do not use commercial patterns because they go out of print eventually and I didn't want to risk my students not having access to patterns used in the videos. We design our own basic patterns to fit our body measurements. All that information is on the course page. learntosew.anitabydesign.com/courses/learn-to-sew

I have missed you too! So happy when I saw you had posted a new video 😊. You’re my favourite go to for sewing videos because you go into more detail and take the time to show us exactly how to do every component of the garment. This is a lovely dress and the colour suits you, and I have noticed that on plain fabric it is easier to see the stitching details. It frustrates me when the garment is being made in very colourful and patterned fabric - it’s hard to see the stitching. Looking forward to the next one 🥰

Your channel is new to me but caught my eye because I just finished this dress yesterday. It looks like you chose a size and fabric that gave you much more ease. I used an Oxford cotton shirt fabric from my stash and find that even sizing up in the hips that the pockets gap open when I sit. I’m used to Vogue and Butterick patterns and it seems to me this McCalls is cut too straight. I’m 5’4”, 120 with 39” hip and graded out to medium and the next make will be at least 2” wider. Also a softer hand in the fabric will probably help. Hope my experience helps someone else contemplating this pattern.

I bought the same fabric, may I ask what interfacing you put in the dress? Can’t wait to make this dress!
@AnitabyDesign7 ай бұрын
I used a lightweight, woven interfacing by Pellon. Heads up about this fabric. It relaxes with heat. I sewed a muslin with cotton bedsheets and the fit was just right. But my linen dress came out larger than the muslin, probably due to all the pressing. I learned from another sewist that the fabric does relax with heat. She told me to put my dress in the dryer for 15 minutes at a time until it shrinks to the size I want (then to never dry it again). I will be trying that because the dress is a bit too large for me.
