That was so helpful, after sewing for decades i am thrilled to learn something new. I am going to get this pattern and give it a try. Were you using a walking foot? Sewing stitches were you using mainly a stretch stitch? The level of knowledge, clear video, explanations perfect. Just have to convert to metric for seam allowance, pressing tips, what can i say, delightful. Now i am retired, i can slow down and enjoy sewing. If reducing length 5' 1" tall, i hope the pattern has shortening lines, do you use a notch cutter. Thank you
@AnitabyDesign5 ай бұрын
I'm so glad you found the video to be helpful. Yes, I used a walking foot with a narrow zig zag stitch. Congratulations on your retirement. What a joy to be able to take your time with sewing.I don't use a notch cutter. I just clip into the seam allowance a bit. Have fun making your dress.
@TheGalactica20013 ай бұрын
Can't wait to start sewing this pattern. Is the seam allowance already added in the pattern? Asking because I'm used to Burda patterns where you have to add seam allowance yourself
@AnitabyDesign3 ай бұрын
Yes, seam allowance is already included.
@kristathompson-fancyflosss92002 ай бұрын
Two questions. What size needle did you use? Also, I have a very large bust for my size 5’2 frame. My bust size is a 46 , underbust is 39.5. The finished bust on the size 24 is 47. My waist is 40. Should I do an fba? Not sure with knit fabric. I did by some knit to do a muslin. Thanks so much
@AnitabyDesignАй бұрын
I don't remember but I'm pretty sure I used a size 10 needle for the brushed poly knit. Whether or not you should do an FBA depends on your desired fit. If you want negative ease in the bust for a snug fit, then do the FBA. I highly recommend doing the muslin to check for fit.

Love this dress Anita, As a beginner,I've always wanted to learn to sew a collar,though, ur Instructions are always on point.I cannot wrap my head around where to place the interfacing onto the collar,and how to enclose the tie edges after sewing the interfacing onto the collar.😞😊

Anita, I am wondering how you use a toile - you suggest using old sheets - which, I am guessing from the video, are cotton - and stable - to inform the adjustments needed for a fabric and pattern that are for stretch knit fabrics? This pattern suggests adjusting the usual sizing to one size smaller - is that what you did? I have found that the garment has come up slightly shorter that I had hoped!!!
@AnitabyDesign3 ай бұрын
When I'm making a toile (muslin) for a knit garment, I use a knit fabric of similar thickness. I always choose my pattern size based on my desired fit. I look at the finished measurements on the front pattern piece and choose the cutting line accordingly.
@juliaevans59695 ай бұрын
Thanks for the wonderful sewing along. I am currently making the bodice muslin. Did you sew down the skirt facing? Thanks
@AnitabyDesign5 ай бұрын
You're very welcome. No, I did not sew down the skirt facing. But you can sew it down if you don't want it open. I would match the topstitching from the top to create a continuous stitching line. I hope that helps.
@joelsims18149 ай бұрын
Would you believe I bought this pattern and the same material before seeing this tutorial! After watching, I still have a question which I’m embarrassed to ask but have to. Once the dress is done, I don’t know how to tie it. With both ties at the bodice front, I can ’t figure it out. I guess I’ve never had a wrap dress before. Thank you for your help.
@AnitabyDesign9 ай бұрын
Hi there Mrs. Sims! You will wrap the left side across your left side and insert the tie through the slit, bringing the tie around your and joining it with the other tie on your left side.I hope that helps.

I'm an experienced sewer. I really appreciate your sew-a-longs. Your expertise is invaluable. I'm gonna make this dress (when I can get the pattern on sale & Joann 😉). I have one suggestion. When you add text to the video to correct something you say, it would be helpful to add an audible "ding" or something to catch our attention in case we happen to look away. Keep up the good work!!
